Deport. Them. All.
Ezra has a modest proposal:
Here’s a better idea. Let’s treat these extraterritorial acts of censorship the same way we treat espionage.
When we catch a foreign spy, we deport him. So let’s do the same thing with foreign embassies corroding our freedom.
Next time a Canadian Falun Gong is bullied, we kick out a Chinese diplomat.
Let’s start with a flourish by kicking out two Iranian diplomats.
Why do we even recognize the Islamic Republic of Iran? Unlike China it isn't an emerging superpower, it's just a medium-sized theocratic backward. It is also a dangerous and evil regime that is a threat to our national interests, and a mortal danger to a our Israeli friends and allies. We should be working to send the Mullahs and their lackeys to the hell fire they deserve, not treat them as honoured guests of Her Majesty.

Islamic fundamentalists are no friends of Canada. Perhaps that is a reason for Canada being rejected for a place on the United Nations Security Council. It also could be a factor in Canada's difficulty with the United Arab Emirates. In Tunisia the Islamic Fundamentalists will be doing what they so successfully did in Iran in 1979.

I'd hesitate a tad before we expel a Chinese diplomat. They shut down trade and Canada's future gets ugly in a hurry. Not to mention that we should make a habit out of refraining from foreign entanglements, especially with the next USA - PRC.

Canada imports around $35 billion a year from China. We export around $8 billion a year to them. Most of Canada's exports are resources which would easily be sold elsewhere. I say throw out the Chinese diplomats and see what they do. When you are running a $27 billion a year trade balance with someone are you likely to piss them off?

Where do we get the impression that Canada is important to either Iran or China ?. Neither one gives a damn what we want or how we feel. We are country of 34 million people and like to play with the big boys but we see ourselves as a lot more important than most countries do. We are aligned with the USA through necessity and even most Americans know little about us except it's wild and cold here and we welcome draft dodgers and gays. We also do'nt have a Army, Navy or Air force worth talking about and are suckers for all illegal immigrants. Oh,..... and we are nice. We saw how important we were when it came to a seat on the security councel.

I think one of the big reasons Canada lost the seat at the UN (the UN is pointless anyways) is because of China.
China wants to flex its muscles globally like the US has done for a century. China is a country with a huge inferiority complex, it begs for respect and resents how smaller countries like Germany, Britain or France can have the status on the world stage that it does not have. It gets angry the most when its human rights record is a big issue. One way to soften criticism of it human rights record, particularly at the UN is to buy off minor countries like Portugal (We will help you get your seat at the UN, and we will help your debt crisis if you stay out of the human rights campaign against us)

'we should be working to send the Mullahs and their lackeys to the hellfire they deserve.'
Hey Erza, the Yanks already got that one going,...
IN 1988, THE U.S.S. Vincennes, a USA Navy Ticonderoga class AEGIS guided missile cruiser shot down Iran Air Flight 655 over the Persian Gulf, killing 290 people onboard including 38 non Iranians and 66 children.
C'mon any one of those 66 dead kids coulda grown up to be a Mullah or cured Cancer.
Who knows what Erza ponders as he gets his Made in the USA Full Body Grope Down in the Airport line.
Glory , glory, hallelujah.
'Yer either fer us er yer against us.'

Jeff:
Time to stub out that spliff and take a good deep breath, preferably of some good clean mountain air.
At least you spelled your name right this time.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...... Cured cancer? They are cancer!
Stig is absolutely correct about China's contribution to Canada's economy. The trade imbalance is proof positive.

I think Peter summed up our situation very neatly as much as we may wish otherwise. Still I would prefer our government to remove all and any foreign "diplomats" guilty of meddling in our internal affairs, whatever their nationality. At the same time I am not holding my breath for this to happen.
