It's simply one more symptom of our permanent debt. The government expects us to make deposits on investments in ourselves. Licencing, permits, etc. are down payments on something we'll never own.
Another money grab comes in the form of bylaws. My city is about to make it illegal to park commercial vehicles on residential property. That means no more company vehicles parked in driveways, and especially not on the street. It doesn't look too good for home-based businesses. Just think how many contractors work from home. Look down your street and you'll see everything from Joe's Plumbing, to Jil's Cleaning. They'll have to either lease a commercial property, or get a home business license. In many cases they won't be able do do either.

Hey folks, we let it happen. Freedom is seldom lost in one big bite. It's a little nibble at a time and usually regarding something that does not affect the majority personally. This success empowers the mental midgets and encourages the never ending parade of nanny state experts who meet little resistance in implementing new "nibble" rules. Always for our own good of course or to save the children, the planet or ....?
We do nothing except complain to each other so we deserve whatever we get.
