The saga of Officer Bubbles
Cross-posted to The Volunteer
Constable Adam Josephs of the Toronto Police Services is an asshole. Not just any asshole. But a special kind of asshole. The kind of asshole who acts like a total asshole, then asserts his right to be an asshole without actually being ridiculed for being an asshole.
In fact, he feels so strongly that he has a right not to be subjected to public ridicule for being an asshole that he has taken to suing YouTube for being the conduit of such ridicule. He is also demanding those who produced cartoons mocking him, under the moniker "Officer Bubbles" have their names produced such that he can sue them too.
On a weekend where Mr. Josephs' police force undertook the biggest mass-arrest in Canadian history, arresting over one thousand Canadians, including hundreds of innocent bystanders and at least 800 people who were not involved in any illegal activity, in what some have described as "precautionary detention" -- Mr. Josephs' is demanding that a court award him over one million dollars in compensation for the damage to personal reputation caused purely by his own behaviour.
>
This attitude on the part of Office Bubbles may not surprising to anybody who has had any personal relations with police officers. I have one friend who is a police officer, and two in my extended family. One of them works for the Toronto Police. And if you share this same privilege, you have may have experienced glorious tales of police power tripping at the dining room table over the holidays -- and how "stupid" members of the public are, especially compared to them.
The police have a brotherly code. They look out for each other, and first and fore-mostlly, the police brotherhood views themselves as above the public. Which is why, in a society that ostensibly celebrates free speech and fair comment, Officer Bubbles is asserting his right to be free from public ridicule.
The problem is much worse than a single police officer with an inflated sense of self-importance who considers members of the public to be "human garbage"; there is evidence the Toronto Police are actually targeting their critics, using heinous and illegal intimidation tactics.
The following video chronicles a Toronto Police officer physically assaulting a man, who then runs for help, and is then confronted by a dozen police officers in a back alley where his iPad and phone are searched, he is subjected to verbal abuse, being called a "drug addict' and "mentally ill" while he demanded to see a lawyer -- to which they told him to "shut up".
This was vaguely similar to my encounter with the Toronto Police on the Monday evening following the G20 summit, where a group of police officers verbally abused me while I protested the search, telling me they "didn't care" what I thought, that people like me "don't give a shit" about the security of Toronto, and that I was just an "idiot" who didn't know what I was talking about.
It is unfortunate that the two front-running mayoral candidates in the Toronto municipal election both support expanded police resources, up to and including the installation of a comprehensive CCTV system throughout the downtown, not unlike that in London, England. Especially with a preponderance of evidence that the Toronto Police are out of control, are not being held accountable, and worse, as Mr Josephs' lawsuit shows: they feel they're actually entitled to get away with all of it.

That was awesome Mike, we should have guessed your fundimental bad blood with the police was based on unresolved family tensions, transposed to the external world, and in this case to this so called " Officer Bubbles "
Well nothing like art to break up deeply rusted shut feelings for all the world to see, and sympathise with you.
Making or sharing art focusing on one's unhappiness with the police and their franchise on managing public behavior anomalies is a powerful way to release resentment towards the police. It's a win / win wrap up for everybody
It worked for Pop star hedonist closet homosexual George Michael - he made a video starring his anger towards the arresting officer who busted him for public indecency in a Beverly Hills washroom in 1998. Art imitates life in this case , you can see it on YouTube. Wham star George Michael's anti cop video --" Outside "--
A great piece of protest art that defines an entire social movement .
Mr. G. Michael is also a major Wipehead who is frequently before the courts and of late, often in jail for doing his own thing, and well, fucking up bigtime...
Studies show that Prohibition was responsible for him smashing up all those cars. George was a victim of the drug laws that enrich the Police
You are following in a great tradition Mike- Somebody has to show the cops who's boss in Toronto, and at your next family gathering, it might as well be you.

Police call each other members , like some kind of club there in.We couldnt get rid of the firearm registry because the police have to license us, what they dont get is we license them they work for us. It seems that a lot of police think like 419 thats why it took so long to stop Pickton. These women he was murdering were wipeheads , not worth protecting. Once they heard he had a firearm at his residence, it sure changed there attitude.

We need the police forces. Cowards have to have some place to make a living.

don b;
I was rather terse about your mental capasity in an earlier thread today about another subject, Would you do me a big favour and cut and paste it here, tidy it up a little so its relevant to this thread then post it with my name?
Thanks 419

To Officer Bubbles: It's a cartoon; it's a piece of fiction!
Let's ban the Roadrunner cartoon because stupid kids jump off of buildings after seeing Wile E. Coyote fall off a cliff (and live).
WWMD?
Posted by: SD | 2010-10-17 6:24:51 AM
Also, why is Tiny Bubbles only going after the people who made "defamatory" comments on the cartoon videos and not on the live videos? I'm guessing that some people made some nasty comments under the live videos?
Posted by: SD | 2010-10-17 7:09:25 AM
I appreciate the unintentional irony of 419 asserting that Mike's political beliefs stem from personal issues, and then immediately segueing into a bizarre, irrelevant attack on a famous gay singer.
Keep on defending law-and-order conservatism, 419. You're doing a bang-up job.

419 does an excellent of job of showing what a bunch of knuckleheads conservatives are.

I'd never heard of Toronto Police Officer Bubbles until today. From what I've read and seen, he deserves to be the subject of satire -- I don't know who's dumber -- the Toronto Police for hiring him, or Bubbles himself!
Posted by: Dave | 2010-10-17 12:53:53 PM
"Officer Bubbles" is a typical statist maggot. He loves his power and authority, as though they were an aphrodisiacs. It's not about preventing crime anymore, because they police don't have a clue how to deal with the problem of crime. Rather, they go after law-abiding citizens with their bizarre notions of what "assault" is. Acts of protest become assault on the person of a police officer? Only in the statist's mindset. Maybe Officer Bubbles feels this way because they make him wear ridiculous shorts as part of his uniform? He does look ridiculous in those shorts.

Poor, unsigned article. What are you afraid of?
Posted by: Joseph Marion | 2010-10-17 2:12:16 PM
FACISM at it’s finest example. This clown, in all likelihood, probably thinks his dick is bigger because of his uniform. Evidently, the Toronto Police have given up giving psychological evaluations to applicants before hiring. Officer “Bubbles” laughable lawsuit will hold as much merit in a court of law as does his “professionalism”.
If Constable Adam “Bubbles” Josephs had a brain, he’d be on the ground, playing with it. Stick it, Bubbles. You’re a douche.
Posted by: Hugh | 2010-10-17 2:20:53 PM
Joseph, you can find Mike Brock's byline right below the article, as you would've known if you'd actually read it.
Posted by: Bradley | 2010-10-17 2:22:35 PM
the "revenge on the police" videos offered by both Mr Michael & Mr Brock have a lot on common. I was pointing that out. Both video responses are art- & based on strong personal a unrelated displeasures of the presenters projected on law officers performing their duties.

Bubbles and other inflated egos?
BUT are there not a few litigious liberal lawyers suing other lawyers and bloggers in Ontario?
Greens and liberals mainly???
Major reform of appointments to any position of power and influence is indicated.
Citizen JPs are indicated.

Bubbles is the author of his ridicule. He perpetuates it. Better he shut up and get over it. But he won't. That's maybe because he has instincts of a bully and one incapable of common sense.

Strange to say, the "Officer Bubbles" cartoons are still visible on MS BING search-engine, mouseOver the Officer Bubbles thumbnail windows.
(Although clicking on the thumbnails will fail to return the original youTube cartoons.)
Will he sue Bill Gates also?

Sorry, but the only solution to assholes like officer Bubbles and many of his pig brothers in blue is a swift, immediate, life-changing attitude adjustment.
Fortunately for them they are usually such big cowards that they generally avoid such situations, instead picking on women and other easy targets, and usually only when the rest of their gang-members in blue are around.
Remember police, YOU ARE HERE TO SERVE US, not the other way around.
Remember people, there is nothing wrong with resisting unlawful police action, such as a false arrest or unlawful search. The only person that can physically defend your Charter rights is YOU, so be prepared at all times. Combat training is often a good place to start.

Well then, Mike, you and he should get along just fine. Everything you've said about him could in all fairness be said about you. Remember that, unlike you, he doesn't have the power to censor remarks that displease him (as you have done). You expect people to refrain from attacking you personally, but demonstrate no compunction about doing it yourself to everyone else.
It's as I've long said: Activists hold police and the "establishment" to a higher standard than they hold their own selves. Then have the nerve to complain that they get no respect. Well, duh.

Except for the fact that, in many cases, the rabble have a mistaken idea as to exactly what their rights in a given situation are, and resisting the police will only make matters worse. Are you seriously suggesting that people should pack heat and shoot it out with officers who ask them to open up the trunk because they smell pot on your breath? That will get you killed very dead, very fast, and your heirs will get no sympathy from the courts or society.
If you really want to be well-armed against any possible police violation of your rights, legal training is a thousand times better than combat training.

The only thing that will change things for the better is if we bully the cops back. Be thankful he didn't beat and rape the girl. I live in BC with the RCMP who make bubbles just look stupid. Here the cops just kill you. I say we kill cops, Next time you see one getting out of his car to tax a motorist, or setting up an illegal roadblock, Just run "it" over. They are not human anymore so don't slow down or feel guilty afterward. If you are harassed or see someone being harassed drop the camera and beat the cop, show him that the police state won't stay here for long, Rise up people the time for talk, debate and videotaping is over. FIGHT BACK

good grief people, talk about tarring all cops with the same brush! I am not disagreeing with any of the comments about bubbles but i take huge exception to comments that imply that all cops are rotten, criminal bullies. That is just not true - it cannot be true by any stretch of the imagination! cops are just people, some bad and nasty, some good and kind, so give the good ones a bleedin' break and don't lump them in with the ne'er-do-wells.
Posted by: annie wou | 2010-10-18 12:54:33 PM
James, you do realize that incitement of hatred against any identifiable group is liable to imprisonment for up to two years under Section 319 of the Criminal Code? And that posing under two different names permanently fixes your online status as somewhere between toe jam and the crud under the refrigerator?
I can't wait for anonymous postings to be banned from the Internet, or for verifiable identities like "Internet Passports" to become standard. Then at the very least the Net will become a more civil place, with less stupid flaming from petulant trolls who snipe from behind a cloak of anonymity. If you're not proud enough of your opinions to attach your name to them, keep them to yourself.
P.S. According to The Star, the poster of the offensive cartoons was a "59-year-old government worker." Well, that fits the profile: falls into the Woodstock cohort, probable Liberal Arts degree followed by government desk job for life on strength of said degree. Why is it that the writing of sexagenarian Baby Boomers is virtually indistinguishable from that of a typical fifteen-year-old?

*sigh*
Whatever happened to the 'bad' old days.
We used to just scream 'sooo-weeeeee!!' at them and run like hell.
Made them crazy and we laughed like hell.
Guess those daze are gone forever.
It takes a special kind of individual to accept that brainwashing and go enforce the law at street level in a uniform.
There is a reason many cops remain in uniform for their entire careers.

Goons like Tiny Balls Bubbles generally end up trying their crap on the wrong person eventually and I for one can't wait till I read of his mangled ass ending up in a hospital before being moved to one of our 3rd. rate extended care facilities.

Officer Bubbles...I saw him once at a party.
It was a gay party. It was the kind of party where anything goes. We have sex right out in the open. His dick really is small. Its not the smallest I have seen, but its in the ballpark.

And good riddance.
It takes a special kind of individual to accept that brainwashing and go enforce the law at street level in a uniform.
It takes a special kind of individual to accept that he really is that much better than his fellow man based on his willingness to be a jerk. From what you've written here, perhaps you're not as different from ol' Cobra as you think.
There is a reason many cops remain in uniform for their entire careers.
Just as there is a reason many adults grow up to talk and act like children. Or perhaps "grow up" isn't the right choice of words. These protestors-for-life may have the bodies of adults, but their brains are something else.

Someone summon the Billy Goats Gruff. The trolls are rising from their stinking miasma of anonymity. So far we've seen wishes for violence where no violence was given by the officer in question, actual suborning of said violence, and vindictive vitriol. If ol' Cobra has to deal with such people on a daily basis, little wonder he's in a sour mood.

Officer Bubbles is a stupid fuckhead. He is an egotistical, wannabe-tough-guy piece of shit. I firmly believe this and would attest to my opinion in a court of law.
Go ahead and fucking sue me, Bubbles. Sue me in England if you want. Or America. Or Canada. My name's right up there. Fuck you, you fucking pig.

Enjoy your anonymous obnoxiousness now, worm, because the day is coming when you'll no longer be able to indulge. When that day comes, the rest of the online community will no longer have to endure your petulant, pestiferous, pus-filled prattlings, because it's a safe bet you haven't got the balls to put your real name to them.
Posted by: Shane Matthews | 2010-10-19 8:46:04 AM
I put my real name to my comments. I dunno about other people, but I put my name on my comments because OHNOES WHAT'RE YOU GOING TO DO? Nobody can do anything... You can't sue people for saying bad things about you on the internet. That's just absurd. Officer Bubbles is a joke.
Posted by: Thaddeus Jude | 2010-10-19 8:50:29 AM
we can't sue you for what you do say on the internet. Thitithin Thad you are the only perthun who hath menthuned thueing.. But never fear, your legal aid certificate is still valid because its ok to be a belicose asshole and sign your name to it. You are joining a long legacy of other badly aging protester boys, almost all of them wipeheads, who drop in here from time to time to tell us all how it is and show us what right on sort of person you are. Then you leave like you arrived: with a squish
See you at the retro riots next June in Toronto
- it is still a catch and release event..

Sorry, I don't really protest. I just hate it when cops like this go and make good cops look bad. It gives merit to what the protesters and anti-cop folks say. This guy is a joke, and any cop would do themselves a service by making sure everybody knows they feel that way, too. Thanks for pretending to know so much about me, though, it truly makes me feel special inside... To have someone like you that cares!

Dont mind 419 he suffered from shaken baby syndrome.
Posted by: don b | 2010-10-19 9:34:32 AM
I never heard before today about officer bubbles....it is all very funny. The behaviour of the officer threatening the girl because she was NOT (little detail) blowing bubbles at him, but just in case, with prison (PRISON, no less) is extremely ridiculous...
Certainly he exposed himself to this ridiculous situation, if people are laughing (with reason) it is his own fault. Now he tries to be taken seriously correcting the ridiculous situation that he creatd by a lawsuit...that is really much more hilarious.
I and the rest of the world will wait to see the development...perhaps we will have the opportunity to laugh a little more, this time from the justice if it rules to his favor.
"I can't wait for anonymous postings to be banned from the Internet, or for verifiable identities like "Internet Passports" to become standard. Then at the very least the Net will become a more civil place, with less stupid flaming from petulant trolls who snipe from behind a cloak of anonymity."
If you do really think like that, post your little biography, Shane. Who are you? It is your real name?
Posted by: kurt | 2010-10-19 9:35:52 AM
"Thaddeus Jude" is your real name? I'm sorry, but I don't quite believe that. "Thaddeus" has not been a common name in decades (650th place or so) and "Jude" as a last name is in 6,600th place in the UK and 20,000th place in the US. What's more, it sounds contrived. All of that, plus your screeching and troll-like demeanour and marked similarity in style to a couple of other or, indeed, perhaps the same poser(s), makes me little inclined to believe you.
That's the trouble with liars. Even when they attempt to tell the truth, no one believes them, because somehow it still comes out sounding like a lie. Telling the truth is infinitely easier than the alternatives, but some folks literally can't manage it.
Posted by: Shane Matthews | 2010-10-19 10:20:28 AM
No one's asking for a biography, Kurt; your real name will do. And yes, "Shane Matthews" is what the fine print reads on the birth certificate, plus a middle name of course.

Don't mind Don; he has about three brain cells left and they're dope-addled.

Whether you believe it or not, "Shane Matthews", is moot. That is my real name. There's a shocking thing in this world - and I know it's going to blow your pretty (petty maybe?) little mind - BUT NOT EVERYBODY HAS A COMMON NAME!
Posted by: Thaddeus Jude | 2010-10-19 11:34:56 AM
It's almost as if the people posting here are adhering to some sorta semi-structural form of writing! So many posts on here are written similarly: period placement, comma placement, and quotation mark placement seem to be common in all posts on this page. PERHAPS WE'RE ALL THE SAME PERSON!
I'm glad I, I mean "Shane Matthews", came up with this.
P.S. I am actually Shane Matthews. Don't let anybody try to deny it.
Posted by: Thaddeus Jude | 2010-10-19 11:38:11 AM
Shane, you spend a lot of time whining about filthy hippie liberals, but you have yet to actually say anything about this story.
Would you honestly defend this power-drunk thug in uniform arresting a woman for blowing bubbles? And later filing a lawsuit against those who criticized him? Honestly, I'd love to see someone defend such juvenile and inappropriate behavior. I'm curious as to how this can be justified. Cops like Officer Bubbles are the reason why so many of us no longer trust police.

My real name? What use that would have to the discussion here? Would change your opinion about my ideas if I use a female or male name? A latine, oriental, french or african name? Names here in this discussion are nothing if you can not add an identity. Names that cannot be verified are just words. For example your name, Shane. There are thousand (or more) people named Shane Matthews. This discussion here about real or not names is preposterous. Anyway what is the use to me to know that you name is Shane, if that is really your name? However, you appear to attach some importance to real names in the discussion above.
