Canada concerned by Iran's ongoing detention of Bahá'i leaders

Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement expressing Canada’s concern over Iran’s continued detention of seven leaders of the country’s Bahá’i community:

“Canada remains deeply concerned by Iran’s ongoing arbitrary detention of seven Bahá’i community leaders. It is deplorable that these individuals were detained on the sole basis of their faith and have been denied a fair trial.

“Canada notes that the seven Bahá’is—Behrouz Tavakkoli, Saeid Rezaie, Fariba Kamalabadi, Vahid Tizfahm, Jamaloddin Khanjani, Afif Naemi and Mahvash Sabet—have been detained since the spring of 2008.

“Furthermore, Iranian officials have recently made statements linking the seven to political unrest. These are unfair accusations, and cause concern for the safety and well?being of the seven Bahá’is and of all those unjustly detained in Iran. The Iranian government’s unrelenting targeting of the Bahá’i and other religious and ethnic minorities, particularly after the country’s June 12 presidential elections, is a troubling trend.

“We once again urge Iran to protect the rights to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and to live up to its commitments and obligations under domestic and international law.”

Who cares about religious Zealots, you have to pay to play, off with their proselytizing heads because they knew the risks. It no ones right to live a life void of reason.

On a more important note how about the USC berley students which have been there for over 5 months after being detained while hiking in the mountains.

Chomsky urges Iran to free UC Berkeley grads

I doubt if Iran gives a rats ass what we think in Canada. Kind of like Denmark telling us what we should do. Anyone going to Iran has a agenda. Not exactly a vacation destination.Anyone playing in the mountains that border the country would be suspected of being up to no good from their perspectice. Chomsky...what a joke.

You think Chomsky's a joke? thank you for that laugh. You need to research Chomsky for your own good, man with a very limited brain.

Just so you know he is probable the most brilliant intellectual alive, no one who called himself smart would call chomsky a joke as you so very rudely called him. If you cannot understand hime then you truly are dim because he couldn't be more intersting or easy to understand. Peole should be forced in school to study chomsky, then people would never end up stupid like you.

Have studied Chomsky, matter of fact just finished "what we say goes". What I meant was the influence Chomsky has on anything Iran would do is a joke. Not the author himself.

"The basic truth is that Al Qaeda does not exist and never has. Al Qaeda is a manufactured enemy who was created by the Bush Administration in order to have an excuse to wage a war for the control of the world’s oil resources.'

I am not advocating anything other than reading another perspective from russian news spinners.

You take a source from PRAVDA ?? That is hilarious. That certainly explains a lot and I thank you for clearing up this mystery.

Although I agree that oil was the only reason Iraq was invaded.

and that there was no Al Queda in Iraq before the invasion. Sadam would have never allowed competition. Al Quada is not a group. It is a religion, a mindset.

Now who is being a lie spinner? I said in the first post "news spinners" from the other side. The news you believe looks like this to me, you are no better than them is my point. you believe what seems unlikely, but you are some old fuddy dud who just learned about online, so there will be no pulling you from the rut you live in.
a story is a story its just comfortable for you to be holding on to your mothers virtual apron strings, pretty darn sad.
Enjoy the stories for what they are, another radical perspective opposite from your radical perspective, me being the center, or the voice of reason.
