Danny Williams defends the West against the Harper Conservatives

There is something terrible wrong with the world when a Newfoundland Premier is defending Alberta's energy sector against an attack from a Calgary-based Prime Minister.

While Prime Minister Stephen Harper is pushing for a binding international deal to cut CO2 emissions, Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams is warning against a deal that is unfair to Alberta.

The National Post is reporting today that:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will join more than 50 prime ministers and presidents at the leaders' summit on climate change in Copenhagen and push for a binding deal to commit the nations to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, Canwest News Service has learned.

The United Nations Conference on Climate Change begins in Copenhagen on Monday and culminates on Dec. 17 and 18 with a leaders' summit.

And the Calgary Herald reported on December 3rd that:

Alberta and Saskatchewan shouldn't have to bear the brunt of Canada's emissions reductions, Newfoundland and Labrador premier Danny Williams told a Calgary audience Thursday.

``It's important we find a proper balance,'' Williams said. ``I don't think it's fair to Alberta, which has carried the freight in this country for a long period of time, to now be in a position, you know, where they're going to be disadvantaged,'' he said. ``The cost of addressing climate change should not come at the expense of Alberta and Saskatchewan.''

I can't believe how many otherwise intelligent people fall for this global warming bullshit. Hitler had it right. "If you tell a lie often enough it will become the truth".
We live in one of the coldest countries on the planet and I would love to see some global warming. Supposed to drop to -35 this weekend.
Climate change ???, when in history has the climate not changed ? All of north america was under ice not all that long ago.
I really think we should just go back to picking on smokers, drinkers and fat people because that was good sport and cheap entertainment. This global warming crap will put us in the poorhouse. We just need to steer all the granola crunching tree huggers back to their roots, you know....smoking, drinking, saving animals and the like. If the planet wants to warm up then maybe we should start to worry when we are on par with the Bahamas. Help out....buy a Hummer.

peterj, I guess you are a denier. The government has a very good track record for being on the correct side of issues like this, not to mention dealing with deniers like you. Well, except the one where the Earth is the center of the universe. Oh, and also the one where the world is flat. Probably that's all though. Anyway, since it's not acceptable to burn deniers at the stake anylonger... wait, that's another one. How could I forget the reformation.

Danny knows he needs to light a fire under Steady E. It is slef serving but who cares. I am glad he is doing it. That he has to is sad for many reasons.

Joking right?? The government screws up pretty well everything they involve themselves in. It is easy to placate the masses when they have unlimited power to reach into our pockets for as much money as they need, and oh yes...I am definately a denier and will stay that way until I see proof otherwise that makes sense. All I have seen so far is a herd mentality of brainwashed activists who are making Gore and Suzuki rich. As for the "experts", kind of like believing anything big Pharma or the insurance industry says. Funding is dependant on panic. The minute you say there is no problem the funding stops. Global warming is now a billion dollar industry fully dependant on panic.

As a younger person, I am quite worried about global warming.

But this University of East Anglas debacle has really opened my eyes. Not only that, I have since read about widespread abuse and misinterpretation of weather station data owing to urbanization and heat island creep on weather monitoring stations.

I just do not trust the science any more because the scientists themselves failed to perform in an ethical manner and lied to themselves.

Global warming may still be occuring. But as I shiver under -30 skies in Alberta today, I believe that if it is occuring, it is at a rate that is manageable with our current rate of technological change that will eventually lead to cleaner technologies of all kinds regardless.

I feel cheated that I was deceived by people that I trusted. I am used to being deceived by politicians and bankers. Now we can add scientists to that list.

Here in BC we are already being taxed on nothing(carbon). Politicians may be greedy but they are not stupid.Carbon sequestering is already on the stock exchange. For the worldwide taxpayer it just does not get any dumber than this.
From the governments point of view it can't get any better than this. Finally...a tax on nothing at all. Unlimited potential with the blessing of the brainwashed masses.

peterj, yes joking. And your comments to snowgirl are spot on. Why else would Harper, who I am convinced in his heart knows better, do what he is doing? Because it pays. Period.
