Toronto Council makes war on progress
Last few years Ossington has gone from a dump to a happening entertainment district. It is a clear example of how investment and hard work can change a neighbourhood for the better. So of course the City Council has to destroy it.
Among the recommendations made in the report: an ongoing ban on backyard patios, a size limit for restaurants and a regulation that would require every restaurant to provide parking spaces.
I don't think I've ever been to a bar in Toronto that provided parking spaces. And what the hell is with limiting the size of restaurants? Oh sorry you are too successful, we want you to be making less money.
It's Joe Pantelone, the area's councilor, who is leading the charge against progress. Basically he's afraid that the new comers won't vote for him so he's doing everything he can to chase them out. He already succeeded in preventing any new licenses to be issued on Ossington.
Toronto is a great city, I love it there. I just wish the its government would allow it to be even better.

I have a solution to Toronto: burn the city to the ground. No structure or property would remain. Then rebuild the place where each family has the same amount of property and a home so that no economic, racial, or social distinctions exist. Only subsistence agriculture would be permitted so that no middle class can develop.
But who am I kidding? I'd stop at the first part. Toronto is a racist, fascist, neo-nazi society where whites have all the power. Until they learn to share, Toronto should be ignored by all.

Ah Joe Pantelone. Hugh, you're bringing back all sorts of bad childhood memories for me. I remember Ossington being a complete dump. It's still only gradually gentrifying. Incidentally my mother knew the area before it became a dump. that is before they built a mental hospital in the middle of a moderately prosperous neighbourhood. Government screwed up the area, now it's preventing it from developing.

It occurs to me that the council members in Toronto are elected, as is the mayor. For that matter, Toronto casts deciding votes in provincial and federal elections, too. If Toronto is such a great place and Torontonians are so educated, well-informed, and progressive, why do they keep electing idiots?

Shane: it's all perspective. To Toronto people, they're not idiots. It's really a case of the blind leading the blind. The upside is that Toronto will continue to provide the world with the best example of how not to run a city. Toronto is in trouble despite having access to all the money in the world. It makes me glad to be an Albertan.

Shane I can like a place but not like the dominant politics.
Pike...bite me...

Agreed, Hugh. Another beautiful and eminently livable place with citizens that are generally decent and even wonderful, but completely clueless politically, would be Vancouver.

Did they ever get the trash picked up?

Not only did they pick up the garbage, they didn't need the army to do it for them! I guess miracles do happen even in fascist, racist Toronto.
