Stephen might be wearing Jack's tie, but it's Gilles who is giving him the reach around: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20090915/parliament_ei_090915/20090915?hub=TopStories

The NDP is only supporting the Conservatives to use it as a chip to bargain with the Liberals. When the Liberals with sign papers granting the NDP the things they want, they'll vote against the Conservatives in a second. In the mean time they can squeeze a bit of compliance from the ideological sellout Harper.

Its enough to make an NDPer want to puke. I don't know that I can continue supporting them if they prop up Harper's fascist ass.

Its completely irrelevant. All we're doing here is watching several kinds of socialist's vie for the opportunity to stick their noses in the trough
and all the while rob you and me of our money and our liberties. Let's face it, they've got the best gig in town and they will do absolutely anything to keep people ignorant, under control and watching the show.

Truer words have never been spoken. My new mission in life is now just to get as rich as possible, as to make all this bullshit matter as least to me (and my family) as is feasibly possible.

Mike- That would make sense, except the family has to live somewhere. It used to be easy to just move somewhere if you struck it rich. Now there are very few safe havens left.

dp,
Who says I'm not going to get rich, right here in Canada. I wasn't suggesting I was going to abscond to some remote region of the planet.
Rather, I'm going to put my skills to work and spend the rest of my life making money the old fashioned way. I'll even faithfully pay my taxes. And every dollar I'm left with will represent a "fuck you" to all the people out there that think I don't deserve it, to the government, and to Heather Mallick in particular.

No doubt you would prefer to have had Stephane Dion or Iggy run the country, Greenthumb? The leaders of both the Bloc and the NDP are smart enough to realize that it makes no sense to turf a government while it's in the very act of giving you what you want, so where does that leave you?
For that matter, where does not supporting the NDP leave you? In political limbo, that's where. Such is the fate of many a disillusioned idealist. And then of course there's the fact that even an NDP government would expect citizens to obey the laws it passed...

JC, I'm beginning to think we should be playing The X-Files theme every time you post. Seriously, you've moved well past cranky and into bona fide crank territory. For you the explanation is always a government conspiracy, a diabolical plot to enslave the populace, a great sinister witch hulking in the dark, shoving hapless citizens across the board like pawns, only to sweep the lot clear with a bang and a cackle that rings shuddering to the heavens.

Was it ever otherwise, Mike? I suggest you beware; people who take solace in wealth and goods are often less happy than those who don't. Seriously, what do you have to be so bitter about?
Posted by: Shane Matthews | 2009-09-17 6:45:44 AM
Shane, my last post was merely an observation of the realities...no conspiracy whatsoever. Are you somehow trying to defend what has so obviously become the "norm" for these so called leaders?
The fact that our system is so overly bureacratized and irresponsible and socialistic... that it has pretty much reached the definition of insane, is not a conspiracy theory. Its a fact.
And damned right I'm cranky, you should be too.
If this doesn't have you enraged, you're not paying attention. Either that or you are a complete statist / communist who is pleased with the way things are going. Ah! But I digress....that "is" what you are...

No, they were an observation of your personal take on those realities. Calling everyone in sight a socialist just doesn't ring true.
Are you somehow trying to defend what has so obviously become the "norm" for these so called leaders?
You mean compromise and cooperation between parties? Oh, fuck. We certainly can't have that.
The fact that our system is so overly bureacratized and irresponsible and socialistic...
Is again no fact at all, but your opinion only. Certainly government can be meddlesome and inefficient. But the lights stay on, the roads get fixed, the fires get put out, the kids get educated, the sick and injured are tended, and people who are laid off aren't found dead of starvation.
...that it has pretty much reached the definition of insane, is not a conspiracy theory. Its a fact.
The definition of insanity is unsoundness of mind, often accompanied by derangement and delusions. You fit that description more closely than the government.
And damned right I'm cranky, you should be too.
I will say if and when I should be cranky, not you. And something tells me you've been cranky from the time you were old enough to vote.
If this doesn't have you enraged, you're not paying attention.
Political parties cooperating for their mutual benefit, a cooperation that also benefits the nation because it means that the views of more voters are considered when making law, is supposed to piss me off?
Either that or you are a complete statist / communist who is pleased with the way things are going.
Don't use those big words, J.C. Your understanding of their meaning is flawed, narrow, and one-sided. You consider anyone who supports anything but Jeffersonian anarchy to be a statist, and anyone who doesn't favour privatizing all roads, bureaucracies, and services to be a communist. Too bad historical texts, the dictionary, the encyclopedia, politicians of every stripe, and popular opinion the world over don't agree with you.
No wonder you're so bitter.

I'd FAR prefer Ignatieff or even Dion over Harper. Maybe instead of limbo a lot of people who split off to the NDP from the Liberals will return to the red team and give the Liberals a majority, and Harper an early retirement.
