May we see your papers? (Part 2)

As a follow up to my previous post by the same name, here is some news indicating that the "isolated incidents" continue.

The man in this following video, lives on the border with Mexico (in Laredo, Texas), and in the past few weeks has had the border patrol follow him all the way into the driveway of his own home, and proceed to harass him.

They also sprayed him in the face with mace on his own property when he confronted them, to try and get them to leave [he didn't obey and submit]. But to make up for it, the benevolent border patrol agents--such that they are--apologized for spraying him in the face with mace, and offered him medical help. How thoughtful.

Nope. No police state here. Move along...

(Just remember citizens: obey! Warrants, probable cause, reasonable suspicion, and funny, foreign-sounding words like "habeas corpus" are for bleeding heart liberals who want to surrender to the terrorists! What is the point of all your rights if you're dead from a terrorist bombing, or unemployed because a Mexican stole your job because they'll work for less than you? If you're truly patriotic, you'll sit down and shut your yap!)

Again we would have no illegal alien problem if we denied them freebies. Reserve the freebies for citizens, like the vast majority of countries and this problem pretty much goes away.

"Again we would have no illegal alien problem if we denied them freebies. Reserve the freebies for citizens, like the vast majority of countries and this problem pretty much goes away"

I doubt the problem would go away. The vast majority of illegal immigrants come to work. Not to collect government benefits.

They are seeking employment opportunities that are not available in their country. We know there's like 30 million illegal aliens in the United States (about the population of Canada), and there's no indication that they're all collecting welfare. And yes that statistic is correct. By the US government's own estimates, about 10% of the entire US population are illegal immigrants. The cost alone, of deporting that number of people is prohibitive. Which is why, you keep hearing talk of amnesty programs in the US.

The problem is more that, it's impossible to immigrate to the many Western countries like the US, unless you already have family there, or you have some unique skill, or a high-level university degree. In the US, most skilled trades do not qualify for a work visa. For example: you can't get a work visa to come be a plumber.

The US immigration system is designed to only allow immigrants to the country who are coming to fill highly-skilled jobs that are "in demand".

For low-skilled jobs that are in demand, the pressure is on to keep immigrants out in order to keep wages in those industries up--usually by unions.

I used to live in North Carolina, and it was pretty much a well-known secret that the entire landscaping industry is made of illegal immigrants. As are a great proportion of the nannies and housekeepers. Just look at the US politicians that have been nailed for employing illegal aliens.

The fact is, no matter where you look in the low-skilled industries in the US... there's always illegal immigrants somewhere there. Most of them not even making minimum wage, because their employers know that if they complain they'll get caught.

So it's sort of funny, that US immigration law is designed to protect low-skilled labour from immigrants willing to work for less money than Americans. But as a result of the black market created by immigration laws, there's a whole pool of immigrants willing to work below the legal minimum.

As always, government policy backfires.

But we're getting away from the topic, which is: the US is clearly becoming more and more a police state.

It's a fucking chance we have the States to bring democracy and freedom upon the rest of the world...

But wait, this guy has Mexican sounding name ... ergo not a "real" American. The border cops had every right to harass him.

Just trying to predict what our cons are going to come up with ...

They'll say these "isolated incidents" prove nothing, like they did last time. Or they'll say that he shouldn't live near the border if he doesn't want to get stopped by Border Patrol all the time. Some crap like that.

He complained. Now he's being harrassed. Sinse he has 20 years in the military, they've probably labeled him a right wing extremist...the American term for subversive. So its "ok" to harrass him in the new Amerika.

"Some crap like that."

Well I'm sure there will be some type of circular logic involved. Something along the lines of: "he deserved to be pepper sprayed for not submitting. Because, you know, it's the law."

I'm actually amazed at how little attention this issue is getting, quite honestly.

Posted by: Mike Brock | 2009-08-18 12:23:01 PM

well thats because its not a problem for us Canadians. Although considering the amount of people in the States who live near borders, you would think more of an outcry would be heard. Or perhaps its not that big an issue to most people going about thier lives in thier little bubbles. I am constantly amazed at how little the average person thinks about anything that doesn't affect them directly.

Like average people, luckily we are not average people.

On average, 50% of the people you'll ever meet are below average.

I've just spent about an hour watching videos of checkpoint stops in the US. Absolutely they are an exercise in Obedience and Compliance. Is this the kind of freedom we're spilling blood to export around the world? God help us...
