You look good enough for a promotion: Smarten up your wardrobe with a pocket square

Pocket Square A796_AQUA “It's tricky to know what to wear in a recession if you are job-hunting, but the advice from professionals is to play it safe and formal.”

That’s good advice from columnist Jane Merriman.

It’s important to look your best in these challenging economic times. Casual Fridays are out, and conservative dress is back in -- but who has the money for a smart new wardrobe?

I’ve got the answer, at least the answer for men: pocket squares. Don’t buy a new jacket, stuff a pocket square into the pocket of that tired old sport coat and wait for compliments.  They’ll come.

One of my favourite places to shop is Brooks Brothers, and I recommend their Shoestring Silk Pocket Squares.

You can thank me later -- and you can find more fashion insights here from Western Standard GM and anarcho-dandy Kalim Kassam.

I can't believe you posted this, Matthew... with a blue, rather than a pink, pocket square.

Everyone knows that pink is the right colour for pocket squares.

Well, I'm all about the pink, but the advice from fashion experts was to keep it safe, Peter.

My advice is to be both conservative and fabulous. I'm sure you agree.

Weren't you wearing French cuffs in junior high?

I get my suits from Indochino.com -- cheap and tailor made.

No, this is not a spam. You started it, Matthew!

Great site, Gareth. Very nice stuff -- and about half the price of Brooks Brothers suits.

Gareth: I am grateful for the link. I think I will purchase a suit from that site within the next few days.

I have been looking everywhere for a particular pattern in my size. I haven't found it within my budget (Etro and Polo make a suit like the one that I want, but Etro and Polo are extremely expensive).
