Canadian actor Tom Green in hospital after assault (UPDATED)

TomGreenHead Some time ago, I signed up to receive email updates from tomgreen.com, the website of Canadian actor and comedian Tom Green. I can’t remember why I signed up, although I do I enjoy his show, Tom Green’s House Tonight.

Since then, I've been receiving regular emails updating fans on Green’s bizarre activities and antics. Late Sunday night I received an email update that I hope is a bad joke.

Fullerton, CA (MediaFetcher July 5, 2009) - Actor Tom Green has been reported to be in serious condition and taken to Golden State Regional Hospital after a minor traffic accident that escalated into a physical altercation in Fullerton CA, a suburb 30 minutes south east of Los Angeles.

Witness reports indicate that Tom Green's Mercedez struck a pickup truck towing landscaping equipment. Three men exited the truck and extracted him from the vehicle then began kicking and punching the actor before fleeing the scene. "He didn't have a chance against these men who attacked him before he said a single word to them", replied a visibly shaken onlooker.

Tom Green was unresponsive upon the arrival of police officers and EMT's, but appeared to be breathing according to eyewitness reports.

This story is developing as we await confirmation regarding the eyewitness details and official health status.

Michael Thomas Green was born on July 30, 1971 in Pembroke, Ontario.

UPDATE: I'm happy to report that Tom Green has posted a blog post entitled "Tomgreen.com Was Hacked Yesterday! 4chan Hackers Killed Me Today! I am alive and well! Tell those hackers from the /b/ section at 4chan where to go," a few minutes ago. Here is what he wrote in that blog post:

Hey gang. Just to set the record straight. Our website was hacked yesterday by the 4chan.org bastards! Damn you 4chan! They sent out a mass email and posted several erroneous stories online about my untimely demise. Turns out there is a prank website called www.fakeawish.com that creates these stories. These resulted in the much reported story last week of Jeff Goldblum falling off a cliff in New Zealand. He has since been on the Colbert report. Go tell those /b/ tards over at 4chan where to go!

Here is Tom Green's twitter announcement:

I got the email too. I am highly doubting its veracity. You are the highest ranking Google news search for this story. The email also had a www.cnn.com link on it but there is nothing about it on CNN.

I think there are three possibilities in this case:

1. He is trying to pull off a very idiotic joke.
2. His email server was hacked by 4chan types or other similar script kiddie pseudo hackers
3. He really is hurt and his PR people have a really bad idea of the appropriate way to announce it to the world.

Tom Green may not exactly be "A" list but he is popular enough that something like this would have hit some major news outlet by now.

Yeah, I too think that this is a joke story. As TG Fan said, this is the top news item on the story, and actually the only thing I could find even related on google.

I have been a fan of Tom's for many years, and find most of the things he does hilarious. However, this joke, I'm not such a fan of. I don't think it's right to bring traffic to your website by saying that you have been hospitalised.

That being said, I guess there is a slight possibility that someone has hacked into their email, but I think that it is worded too maturely to be anyone from 4chan.

I guess I'll have to check out Tom's show tonight after work and see what he has to say about it.

This is FAKE!! I just hit google news as well, and this is the only major link on it. I saw first post of it on a Yelp Link.

Someone posted this link for more details

I changed the url around since I thought having a decicated subdomain was weird

See how it writes the article based on that alone.

Going to the main domain, I see a notice bragging about the Jeff Goldblum death joke going around last week.

Looks like someone is trying to drum up some viral marketing

There's no way Tom Green would pull a joke like this. Not his style at all, and this is something that any Tom Green fan knows Tom would denounce, especially with all the recent celebrity deaths. I don't know what is going on here, but I'm certain Tom's not behind it. You wait and see.

That said, it's not written like an official news story, and it's not from CNN. I'm bewildered. I just hope he's okay, and this is something of a "joke" someone else is responsible for.

Get well Tom! We love you! I only wish I was with you when it happened; I would have beat those guys up! I can totally understand how this TRAGEDY could happen: the exact same thing nearly happened to me but I fled! The law let me go because I explained I was in fear for my life. LA is awful, in some ways.

It looks like his site was definitely hacked. There is crazy stuff on it in his blog section about Hitler, Michael Jackson, and masturbation that I don't think Tom Green would write ever.

I reckon he's been hacked, look at this blog http://www.tomgreen.com/blog/?post=702 and I dont think he would have posted this http://www.tomgreen.com/blog/?post=703

i have just seen this on 4chan, so i highly doubt it is true

fakeawish.com makes these articles

Tom is just joking around

Posted by: Anonymous | 2009-07-06 6:31:05 AM

Not only that, but I doubt CNN would misspell "Mercedes" or fail to identify the witness by name.

As a Tom Green fan, if this is a joke on his part it is tasteless specially after dealing with the past couple of weeks with the passings of MJ, Ed Mc and Farrah.

Posted by: Junior | 2009-07-06 9:06:11 AM

If this is fake, then I'm disappointed.

Posted by: Zebulon Pike | 2009-07-06 9:38:16 AM

This is a hoax I believe... I received an email from his site as well but the headline was

"Luxury yacht sinks off coast of St. Tropez France Actor Tom Green reported missing"

So its a hoax or a very bad day for Tom Green.

Posted by: Amanda | 2009-07-06 9:40:12 AM

fake...there is no golden state regional hospital.

Posted by: jared | 2009-07-06 10:33:16 AM

I think this is fake. The local media here in SoCal would be all over it. Secondly there is no such place as "Golden State Regional Hospital". If you are taken away by paramedics in the city of Fullerton you would be taken to Anaheim Memorial Hospital or UCI.

I say its fake, but still wonder why he would fake this?

Posted by: JonInSD | 2009-07-06 10:33:42 AM

Why don’t you verify your news story before spreading rumors. There is no Golden State Regional Hospital and Tom Green’s response is:

4chan bastards hacked tomgreen.com yesterday and posted false news stories in my blog about my death. I am alive! I am ALIVE!!!!!

Tom Greene says he's fine, thanks. http://twitter.com/tomgreenlive/status/2500599279

On his website he says this story is a complete fabrication. Do a little research it you want to continue playing journalist. His website was hacked and someone put out a fake news story. If I can figure it out in 2 minutes online, can't you?

Posted by: Mike | 2009-07-06 1:04:19 PM

This is crazy I saw the same story on FuckinLoser.com But they said it was a fake. but how did they get the photo of him with the black-eye. I love Tom Green, I am so happy he's ok If he was killed I would cry. Damn shame him and Drew aren't together anymore she is really hot now.

Seems unlikely that Tom Green would drive a Mercedeze

Posted by: G.I. Poo | 2009-07-07 7:20:43 AM

Tom Green definitely has a mercedes ( Ive seen him in it before), but it seems that this story is quite fake. Any real Tom Green fan knows this is not his style at all.

For those unfamiliar, 4-chan users are a herd of degenerate pedophiles.
And Mike on July 6th 1pm, the original western-standard story gave an attribution for the claim. It didn't simply proclaim the story to be true. There is a very big difference which, in your haste to deride the Standard, you ignored.

Giving a way by which a claim can be tested is more consistently useful than reducing all claims to assertion or a denial.

They've been pranking Tom Green for like three years now. Every post is a repost of a repost, I guess.
