Common sense perspectives on the Raitt-gate/Isotapes affair

After watching opposition members bashing Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt all day over some recently released tapes that feature the minister making some insensitive remarks, I was glad to see a common sense Western Canadian perspective on the issue from some of Canada's foremost talk radio hosts:

What surprises me is not that Ms. Raitt made the statements, but that people are actually surprised about it. This is politics folks. These people are all in it for themselves. A character in a Frank Herbert novel defined politics as "the art of appearing candid and completely open while concealing as much as possible." Ms. Raitt was caught on tape talking about using the isotopes crisis to further her political career. By attacking her for what she said in a private conversation, the opposition has also attempted to use this crisis to score political points. This is nothing more than political opportunism. This is politics at its finest.

What surprises me is that the public is willing to continually give these people more power and its own expense.

"at its own expense"

I am so disgusted with the Conservatives and especially Harper -- who is a double-crossing, freedom-hating Torontonian who should go back home -- that I really don't give a flip whether these attacks are justified.

Go home Toronto Steve! Pretend Albertan.

That sounds familiar. Yeah, like global warming, now climate change, being used to promote political careers to say nothing of great financial returns for others.

I talked to my brother, in Nova Scotia, today. He retired there a couple of years ago. He's having a hard time adjusting to the politics, after living in AB for almost 40 years.

He voted for the conservative candidate, who happens to be the son of longtime MLA and Minister Ken Streatch. He didn't seem surprised the NDP won. It sounds like the Conservatives were incompetent.

I've always voted Conservative, or Reform. I voted for Stanfield the year I turned 18. There comes a time when enough is enough. This era is almost as bad as Mulroney's final term. I don't care if Harper is defeated. He should have seen this woman was trouble. I took one look at her and knew she's a bitch. You'd have to be blind, and extremely horny, to think this woman has an ounce of character.

This thread must be such a bitch for Zebulon Pike...

On one hand he has to play his role of cheerleading for the CPC at any cost, but he can't in no way support a rich white businesswoman from Toronto.

Oh the irony...
