National Review reviews Ezra Levant’s “Shakedown,” but I’m guided by Reason

Ezra Levant is reporting on a review by the good people at National Review magazine of his new book Shakedown: How Our Government is Undermining Democracy in the Name of Human Rights:

It's great to receive that kind of coverage in a major U.S. conservative magazine. When I published the Western Standard, I looked up to NR as a kind of "older brother" to our magazine. When I was in New York, I liked to pop by their headquarters to shoot the breeze with their editorial team and the great Ed Capano, their publisher at the time. I'm delighted that I still keep in touch from time to time with them, and that they care enough about Canada and about freedom to have reviewed my book!

As the new publisher of the Western Standard, I prefer to look up to Reason magazine and their “Hit & Run” blog as our aspirational model...our “older brother.” And, as it turns out, Reason is also preparing a story on Levant’s new book and the human rights complaint against the Western Standard that started it all.

Reason publisher Mike Alissi tells me the article on Levant will be on newsstands on May 1 and will be posted on the web site on May 4.

While it’s too late for next issue, I strongly recommend subscribing to Reason magazine. You can do so on Amazon.com here. You’ll get a substantial discount off the newsstand price and the Western Standard will get a small percentage of the total purchase price for the referral.

Every issue is packed full of good stuff about “free minds and free markets.” I hope you subscribe.
