Corporate spokesmodel, porn star and libertarian: Marilyn Chambers dies at 56

Ivery-snow Marilyn Chambers was reported dead Monday at age 56. She died in her home on Sunday of yet unknown causes.

Chambers was the Procter and Gamble all-American Ivory Snow soap girl until breaking into the adult film industry with the 1972 movie “Behind the Green Door."

In 2004, with perhaps nothing else left to reveal, she shared her love of libertarian political values with America as the Vice Presidential candidate for the Personal Choice party, a libertarian party based on the philosophy of "live and let live."

Reason magazine Managing Editor Jesse Walker has a more complete obituary here, including Chambers' involvement with the Boston Tea Party, another libertarian third-party.

Marilyn Chambers was a champion of free speech, among other libertarian values. In a statement in 2004 endorsing Libertarian candidate Andrew McCullough for Utah Attorney General, she wrote:

I join with Ken Larsen, the Personal Choice Party candidate for Governor of Utah, in endorsing Andrew McCullough for Utah Attorney General. Andrew shares my concerns with the right to Free Speech guaranteed by the First Amendment and has spent many years as an attorney working to protect that right, and fighting for civil liberties in general. As Attorney General, Andrew would put the individual rights of the people of Utah ahead of the wishes of State employees who desire more power over the lives of the citizens. I urge the voters of Utah to cast their votes for Andrew, the Libertarian candidate for Utah Attorney General.

Marilyn Chambers, rest in peace.
