Mr. Obama goes to Ottawa

I get a call yesterday from my sister. With a screaming baby in the background she asks me “what are you doing tomorrow?” I tell her that I’m busy and ask her why she asks. There is a silence, then she tells me she wanted me to drive her to Ottawa to see Obama. I laughed and the reason I laughed is because my sister has never voted in her life.

I don’t know many people who are more disinterested in politics, yet she had an interest to go see the President of the United States walk by her. I am willing to bet that she doesn’t know a single policy that Obama wants to promote. She’s heard my rants but I doubt she was listening. In fact I doubt that she really cares about President Obama.

She wanted to go to experience the crowd. There is a party going on in Ottawa today and my sister is not one to miss parties.

People say that Obama is reaching people like my sister and engaging them with his celebrity status. This isn’t true at all. My sister is still not going to vote in the next election. Even if she could vote for Obama I doubt she would bother. No, Obama is not engaging non voters; he is just the catalyst of some pretty decent parties.

So, Obama is basically a walking VLT?

President Obama is always welcome in my books. However, to the Ontarians and other spoiled rotten ingrates, nothing he can do - the One himself - will ever be good enough to please them.

...you mean Obama wasn't on the last election list?

If he was driving down my street, I might go to the door to see, but that really depends what I'm doing at the time.

Of course he is, he's one of the bros.

I love that man Obama as though he were my blood brother. If I met him after a long absence, I'd give him a big brotherly hug. Then I'd tell him his policies suck!

Did anyone notice the warm response non-white Canadians (those whom white Toronto people call 'intruders') gave towards President Obama? He's the only hope they have for equality and civil rights. Good luck on changing that. Not even Mr. Harper can change that.

The combination of President Obama with Gov Gen Michaelle Jean was interesting. Obama was elected to his office, while Jean was appointed. It just proves that Canada is a regressive society based on patronage, while the US is progressive and democratic.

Zeb: I still think Jean is better looking than Obama.

dewp: I hope that you think that way too! It doesn't change the fact that she owed her position to patronage of white people, while Obama earned his through the democratic process. She's an Uncle Tom, whereas he can stand with his head held high.

Zeb: Take care you don't cut yourself on that axe you grind.
