Commerce Department candidate supported abolishing Commerce Department
Obama's candidate to head the Commerce Department is Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) Apparently, as a member of the Budget Committee, Gregg voted to abolish the Commerce Department back in 1995.
The left-wing site where I found this story reports on it like it is a bad thing, perhaps a sign of defective judgment on Obama's part ("Radical Free Trader To Head Government's Trade Enforcement Apparatus," the headline reads.)
Of course, I think it's a great sign. Government is dangerous. If we're going to have people in charge, I want them to respect that fact. Idealists too enraptured with the "goodness" of government shouldn't have any political power, for the same reason a pyromaniac shouldn't be the head of the fire department.
UPDATE:
Oh. The Democrats aren't getting a new senator out of the deal, either.
