Sir Alan Walters RIP

One of Margaret Thatcher's key economic advisors passed away. He was quite an accomplished academic, policy wonk, and businessman. He was the author of many academic papers and books, including a textbook  that I used when I was into economics. He researched diverse areas of economics and went on to become a key player in the Thatcher years.

"Sir Alan persuaded Ms. Thatcher to take one of her biggest risks by raising taxes during a recession in 1981. The decision was later credited with helping to lay the foundation for Britain's sustained growth in the 1990s."

Yikes. Let's hope that doesn't get read by Flaherty, who is meeting with the CTF today.
