Alberta NDP leader Brian Mason salutes President Obama
Alberta NDP leader Brian Mason offered his congratulations to U.S President Barack Obama today:
“This morning we saw a nation poised to dramatically change its course based on the power of hope,” Mason said. “President Obama is changing the rules and our the Alberta government must make some fundamental shifts to ensure we aren’t left behind.
“We have the potential to play a major role in rebuilding the North American economy, but that will only come through new initiatives and cooperative planning, rather than old-style partisan practices that hurt everyday Albertan families.”
Mason called for an Alberta stimulus package that invests in renewable energy, public transit and green-collar jobs.
Obama’s stimulus plan includes $32-billion for renewable energy, $22-billion to make homes more energy efficient, and $10-billion to improve public transit, in addition to $31-billion to modernize infrastructure.
“The American economy under the Obama administration is committing to fresh ideas about a sustainable, green economic future,” Mason said. “To move forward Alberta’s government will be required to follow suit.”
