Its what any good worshipper would do for their deity.

What do you mean? What's wrong with that picture?
Seems like a very accurate image of the president elect, at least in the eyes of his disciples.

Holy crap! Giant Obama is about to devour the earth!

@Terrence: No, the world is hurtling at Obama's forehead! Get out of the way, Obama. Get out of the way!

Isn't this considered idolatry? :)

Personality cult much?

Reminds me of some of the Stalin "fan art".

I think it's a play on the Third Eye -- a sign of enlightenment and higher consciousness for New Agers.

Considering that the piece is by Alex Grey, you're almost certainly right. He's a psychedelic artist most famous for his work on Tool's album covers. Most of his work involves themes of enlightenment and higher consciousness.

He's actually got a bunch of process photos on his site right now, showing how the Obama portrait developed: http://www.alexgrey.com

VoR: I'm a huge fan of Tool, and "Third Eye" (appropriately enough) from Aenima is probably my favourite.

It's too bad that now I'll have to go and discard my Lateralus booklet. Shame, I really liked it.

It needs a title. I'm torn between "Master of the Universe" and "Opiate of the Masses".

"Why would someone sit down and put together an image like this?"

I say, because thanks to current computer technology and the power of free, open-source graphics software, putting together an image like this requires remarkably little work. Doing remarkably little work seems like a trait common to many Obama supporters.

Dang, I just saw the link to the site that shows how the piece was created using traditional painting techniques and airbrushing. Oh well, I'm still a little proud of my snarky wit...
