I am not exactly over the Moon
On balance, the Moon report is good news for anyone who cares about free speech in Canada.
But the following snippet (hat tip Deborah Gyapong) indicates how much work still needs to be done.
Moon: "In preparing this report I repeatedly came across shocking misdescriptions of the CHRC's process. These misdescriptions appeared not only on marginal websites but also and all too often in the mainstream media. This was a reminder that there are commentators who will say anything to support a larger agenda and have no particular interest in being accurate." (page 12).
Not only does Moon not back up this claim, he fails to even mention the many examples of CHRC staff acting improperly (some of them admitted to under oath) which have come to light in the last year. I hope the bloggers and members of the MSM he impugns will not take this lying down.
Ezra makes the case against the Lynch mob here.
Moon's defence of the CHRC's conduct should remind us that getting rid of Section 13 is not enough - there must also be a full Parliamentary investigation of the conduct of the commission and the tribunal. It's not just freedom of speech that is at issue here - rights of due process, of basic legal fairness, also hang in the balance.

Craig,
Please, if you MUST link to Ezra, don't link to his most insane and inane nonsense. The post you link to was his denunciation of the report before it had been released. He decided it would be fun to assume he knew what it would say and get pre-emptively outraged over it. Most of that post was made moot by the actual report and its contents, released a few hours after his writing. That post shows him to be the boob and fool that he is.
So if you MUST link to a post by Ezra, link to this one:

It's Ezra at his most reasonable and most coherent. It's a pretty good column that the National Post probably would not have relegated to their online only pages and actually put in print were it not for his history of histrionics. Too bad he prefers making a spectacle to making a difference.

Just to let you know, I shortened the URL down with TinyURL. Thanks for posting it.

Deborah is right on. To me the "Moon Report" gets only 1/2 a Moon.
It fails not only to address the systemic abuses of process and procedure of various present and past staff members - it also fails to address remedial measures for past and present victims. It offers no alternative to the many instances of obstructing/preverting the course of justice by CHRC staff as well as CHRT members...simply by allowing perjured and tainted testimony without penalty for the staff/person involved.
I can only hope the PM and pariament act immediately before many (see National post and Globe today) fear Lynch will get her special interest groups/lobbyists (CJC and B'nai Brith) to start protesting.
Only a full parliamentary inquiry and RCMP investigation of the various allegations of misdeeds (in the Lemire case alone)will suffice and clear the air.

Excuse my cynicsm, but I would expect a Parliamentary investigation to be a waste of time and money. Killing section 13 makes most of the investigating unneeded, especially since there is already pretty good information about the nature of the shenanigans going on over at the CHRC. Shoot the lame animal, for sure, but let's skip the autopsy afterward. The parasites will find little to feed off of once it's a corpse.

FC you are the only one believing you are actually important, and your comments about Levant's "insane" comments confirm this. He has been, and continues to be, the lone one at the front of the firing line, fighting for regaining freedom of speech for all Canadians. Yes, others have come under attack and are fighting along with him, but he has been the number 1 target of the enemies of free speech. Furthermore, I note that at least he is capable of admitting when he is wrong, which is more than one can say for you. A bit of modesty would improve your image.
