Gay and lesbian conservatives have a new organization: Gay Dominion
Just in time for the Conservative party convention in Winnipeg, a new non-partisan organization called Gay Dominion has been launched to represent gay and lesbian conservatives.
Yes, they do exist. In fact, Western Standard readers have already come to know blogger Chris Reid, the Conservative candidate in Toronto who was forced to resign for being too conservative. Reid is also gay.
According to a statement released today, Gay Dominion...
...stands for limited government, low taxes, free markets, the merit principle, personal responsibility, and the equality of gays and lesbians. Gay Dominion is against rampant political correctness, myopic religious intolerance, moral and cultural relativism, anti-Americanism, and the tearing down of western civilization.
The organization’s founder, Fred Litwin, said:
“I am delighted to launch Gay Dominion in Winnipeg at the Conservative party conference. While we have no formal links with the Conservative Party of Canada, I am hopeful that we can help turn the party into a welcoming home for small ‘c’ conservative gays and lesbians.”
I’m confident that gays and lesbians will find a home in the Conservative party, just as long as they check their limited-government ideology at the door with the rest of us.

Interested to hear about this group, but you've linked by mistake to a wrong (very wrong!) URL. The .com version is a NSFW site and definitely not the one you intend. The .ca suffix seems to be the correct one and resolves to:
http://gaydominion.wordpress.com/
Glad to see that among other admirable positions, Gay Dominion stands up for freedom of expression by calling for repeal of Canada's now-notorious hate speech laws.

Yikes. Good catch on the domain name, IGF.

Am I reading this right or are you kidding?
What the hell do you mean check their limited government ideology at the door?
Big government is the root of all our problems for Christ sakes.
What Gay Dominion is calling for is just about perfect as I see it. And yes they can have a home in the CPC as far as I am concerned.

I agree that much of what they are calling for is solid, John.
My point was that their limited-government agenda might not be welcomed in a party that is trying to distance itself from conservative and libertarian principles.

Okay, I was very excited and all for Gay Dominion, until I noticed that one of their three links is to Andrew Sullivan. This guy should be considered a complete joke by now, should he not? He still refuses to accept that Trig is Sarah Palin's biological son, even though her own doctor wrote in the medical report that she delivered him from the Governor herself. There is no where to make this comment on their site.
Anyways, other than that happy development - but the Andrew Sullivan link kept me from sending their site to my gay (and very liberal!) brother.

When you wrote "I’m confident that gays and lesbians will find a home in the Conservative party, just as long as they check their limited-government ideology at the door with the rest of us," I got the joke! Maybe that comes from living with the Republican Party in the US.

Thanks for the comment, David. They was a time when being gay was a liability in the conservative movement. Now being conservative (or libertarian) is a liability.
The party brass needs a primer on libertarianism.

"Gay Dominion is against.....the tearing down of western civilization."
That's funny.
Conservatives used to think the nuclear family was the corner stone of western civilization.

Why? Do you want to try and turn the Conservative Party into the Libertarian Party? Canadians last month rejected the Libertarian Party.

Hey, who said you could have all our gays?
Just kidding. You guys can keep Fred. Really. We don't want him.
