Free to Choose my Milk

The way the state has treated this farmer, you would think that he was a drug dealer or something! What is more puzzling is where are the voices of the left and the right on this? The left, which is all over personal choice, is silent. The right, which is all about free markets, has bought into the big state mentality. After all, no more Listeriosis jokes now means more regulation. So don't expect much action from the suits in Ottawa, Queen's Park, or anywhere else.

What a load of nonsense! If people want to buy unpasteurized milk, know what they are getting, then the law should get the hell out of the way.

In the news article you linked to there is one phrase that caught my eye. The article is generally neutral in tone, but then there was this: "about 30 supporters, some wearing Birkenstocks, sat and stood behind him in the courtroom." What possible point could there be in mentioning the footwear of his supporters unless it is code for "flaky, annoying, politically correct, liberal activist". I guess not only can we not expect any support from political leaders, but the National Post cannot even report the story without sneering.

FC, you are right on this issue. Once we remove the concept of personal responsibility and give the state a free mandate to run our lives, we can only expect more and more of this type of action.
