By the way, in case anybody missed it; David Orchard once again had his ass handed to him.  It's almost enough to make you feel good about democracy.

NDP Brian Morin 3,412 17.7%

Yes but a Trudeau won. That is not a good sign.

Yes but Garth lost. Every election you got to take the good with the bad, and I think there is a lot more to smile about here than not.

I will admit that Justin earned his victory. And he won it against a damned separatist. So I don't begrudge him that.

We will see how he now performs in the House on his own merit.

I detest what PET did to our country. But it is not fair to stain a son's reputation with that of his father. Nor is it fair for the son to trade on his father's name.

So we shall see.

If you add Orchard's numbers to that of the NDP candidate, where Orchard actually belongs, he would have won. Its a good thing for the liberal lites that they have all those vote splitters to their left. I always thought that rabies was quick. How come Orchard is still frothing?

Epsilon: what good is a federalist if his ideas encourage separatism?

Zeb, Justin beat a separatist in a strongly separatist riding. I begrudgingly give him credit for that.

Now we will see if he can hold onto it. He is an intellectual lightweight and expectations are high so I think his work is cut out for him.

Naturally, I would have preferred more Conservatives to win since Harper has done more for Quebec than has any other federal party in 20 years, what with the "nation within a united Canada" motion, provincial funding reconciliations and allowing Quebec to participate directly at more international conferences. I cannot see the Liberals ever offering these kinds of opportunities to Quebecers. Liberals constrain Quebecers while conservatives have done nothing but given them more opportrunties to fulfil their potential.

So we shall see....

Epsi: perhaps you don't get what I mean. I fear that this Trudeau will do what his father tried to do - not to Quebec, but to Alberta. There can be no Second NEP, pure and simple. Like father, like son.

This is a shared fear with me too of course. But I do not apply it just to Justin. I apply it to every single Liberal, Bloc and NDP MP.

It's about time we crank up the separatist talk beginning with the withdrawal of the West's contribution to transfer payments.

I don't want them to kiss our feet. I don't even want them to say a simple thank you. I just want them to leave us the **** alone and not threaten us with taxation, nationalization, confiscation, excessive reulation or outright shutdown every time they have something to say about Alberta and the west.

This is heresy I know, but PET was himself an intellectual lightweight. The libs like to talk about the brilliance of the man, but if you read his memoirs, you will find that he was a guy that was very concerned about what people thought of him, and was greatly concerned about his 'legacy'. I don't where he got his love for despots, and his hatred for Western Canada, but I think it was because he was rich growing up and didn't have to go out and bust his ass like people from the poorer sectors of society have to do. All around a 'broken reed' of a man. His iddo' boy will likely be the same.

He and his hangers-on are the gadflies of Canadian politics. Hopefully, Canadians won't have to see or hear about him ever again after this embarrassing defeat.
