Bye bye, Stephane!
The Canadian Press reports that Stephane Dion will resign as leader of the Liberals on Monday.
Stephane Dion is expected to announce his resignation as Liberal leader on Monday.
Dion, who has been in seclusion since taking his party to its second-worst defeat in history, has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. ET Monday.
Liberal insiders say Dion has grudgingly accepted that he can't survive a mandatory leadership review vote, scheduled for May, and will announce his decision to step aside.
So who will be the next leader of the Liberal party? Bob Rae? Michael Ignatieff? Someone else?

Why not the person who loves the Liebral Party more than anyone else. Elizabeth May.

It's no Ezee to resign. It was easier to lose 20 seats.
Dion has done a masterful job of showing us what a fool he actually is.
Green shaft was a loser from the get go. He didn't listen. Why should he, he is a university professor.
His job is to brain wash students, not to lead them.
Now we all know that for sure.
Ignatieff is a university professor too.
Bob Rae is a far left socialist elitist.
Just Trudeau is a teacher.
Steven Harper is a a leader, economist and the Prime Minister.
The world is unfolding as it should.

I'd think Count Chocula has the inside track. Kennedy's support of Mr. Dion has eliminated him as a contender.
It WOULD be interesting to see Mini Trudeau take a shot at it though. I suspect he's an empty head on top of an empty suit - not that that's stopped the Liberals before.

Ross: the Liebrals would select Trudeau because he has a marketable name. He could remind easterners and others of "the good ol' days." It's stupid enough to work. Hence, caution.

Zeb, I think you are right on this one.

The Liberals missed the boat in 2006 by not dragging John Manley, kicking and screaming, to the podium. He's the only high profile Liberal who can match Harper's cool intellect, and he's a hell of a lot more personable. With him at the helm, they might not repair the wreck before the next election but, on the second time out, they'd be good to go.

Let's hope that May takes charge. She'd lead the Liebrals nowhere with their extremist 'eco-nut' agenda. It would be the greatest thing since Free Trade.

Actually, Zeb, Trudeau was not that well liked in his home province. Outside the island of Montreal, I don't expect his offspring will be even that popular. In urban Ontario, maybe, but as we've already seen, Fortress Toronto is now increasingly isolated and even the walls are starting to crumble.
