The First Act of a Tory Majority...

It's so obvious, I can't believe that no one has mentioned it.  The very first thing that a Conservative majority government should do is to repeal the Liberal election public financing law.

After all, from the looks of things, the Liberal Party will end the election effectively bankrupt.  Pulling out their finances right after the election would change "effectively" to officially.

Indeed, this idea is so good that perhaps a few of you might decide to forward it to vendors, television stations, and so forth who, after realizing that this is actually possible, might decide to demand payment from the Liberals up front - in cash.  Just a thought.

I mean, my friends, how often do we get to combine solid conservative principles (no public money for politicians) with good, old-fashioned vengeance?

Adam,

Repeat after me. "We shall have no conservative majority government".

We may, however, have a less extreme left governmemt.

This is Canada after all.

Dare to dream!

I'd rather see the Liberal Party fail on it's own laurels. There is no honor in kicking them while they're down.

If the Conservatives did this, it would offend a great deal of Conservative voters, including me.

Clever.

More power to them if they do. I was just telling my friend in Toronto that the only way the Liberals/Democrats will regain a sense of purpose is by out-flanking the Conservatives/Republicans by once again embracing classical liberalism. I also told my friend that, in Canada, the Green Party is more capitalist than the Liberals, and therefore perhaps a better candidate to be the opposition.

First act: destroy the CBC.

I'm with Mike on this one. Even an amoral political opportunist would steer well clear of such nastiness; petty acts of vengeance can backfire too easily. Laws should be changed to aid the general welfare of the public, not to nut political opponents. Ex post facto fiats have no place in modern democracy.

Watching the disintegration of the Liberal juggernaut at its own hands is satisfying enough. The party is long overdue for a remake in any case, for the good of the country. So is the NDP, for that matter; it's not the Dirty Thirties anymore. Perhaps a newer, larger coalition of Greens will emerge that will actually start winning seats. That would be something to see.

First act--repeal the long-gun registry and DESTROY THE DATA IT CONTAINS.

Posted by: Shane Matthews | 2008-09-27 12:19:53 PM

Sorry, no.

The election public financing law benefits *all* political parties, not just those in trouble. In fact, the Tories' current accounts would take a major hit if the financing law were *not* in place.

Furthermore, governing political parties are not *supposed* to act in such a petty matter, or at least not unless they can come up with a better excuse (i.e. replacing it with 100% contribution / income tax deduction, with all current registered political parties eligible for contribution).

Besides, should the Liberals finish with a seat total of 50 or lower, they'll have enough trouble repaying their *past* debts as is.

It's the "solid conservative principles" part that tells you it would never be implemented by the CPC.

Proposed first day "To-Do" list for Mr. Harper's Majority.

-Immediate disposal of the CBC.
-Immediate renunciation of the Kyoto Accord on "Climate Change"
-Deportation of all US deserters.
-No more gun registry
-Deportation of Marc Emery to serve his sentence for drug smuggling.
-Removal of time limit on War in Afghanistan. Victory or death.
-Apology to the American people for various affronts during the Trudeau Dictatorship and the Chretien Mal-administration, especially for 9/11.

It'll be a busy day.

Oh yeah I forgot to add:

-Demands for the resignation of the Toronto District School Board and termination of the plan to racially segregate Toronto's school. This will be done or every federal government service in Toronto will be closed indefinitely. That means no international travel, no food inspection, no post office, no nothing. It's the least those racists deserve.

how about repeal the restricted registry too, it's not like it's ever solved or stopped a crime. Alas most moderate Canadians are afraid of handguns and think locking them up so bowhunters can't use them to defend themselves from bears or so victims of family violence can't use them to protect themselves from phsycopathic stalkers will protect them from getting shot by a gang banger...

And the campaign finance law is nucking crooked, why should my tax dollars go to support politicians I'd rather see homeless than in office.

"-Immediate disposal of the CBC."

I'd rather not "dispose" of it, as much as I'd rather privatize it. It's a functional organization with potential to be profitable on it's own.

"-Immediate renunciation of the Kyoto Accord on "Climate Change""

That's not going to happen.

"-Deportation of all US deserters."

That will eventually happen, there's no reason for the Conservatives to take any political heat by getting involved at this point.

"-No more gun registry"

Agreed.

"-Deportation of Marc Emery to serve his sentence for drug smuggling."

I completely disagree. Emory should not be deported. The idea that selling hemp seeds is a crime is fucking ridiculous. Screw the US.

"-Removal of time limit on War in Afghanistan. Victory or death."

Mostly agreed.

"-Apology to the American people for various affronts during the Trudeau Dictatorship and the Chretien Mal-administration, especially for 9/11."

Please no. The Americans do not deserve an apology from us. The American hypocrisy and lack of respect for international treaties that they are a party to is unforgivable. They should apologize to us, first.

The old saying goes:

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

And likewise:

Don't scare the hens as they're likely not to settle down enough to lay at all.

So lets all just put a lid on it and exercise caution before the wind .

You'd better talk to your brotha's and sista's cause their the ones that want it. Though they could easily return to the "islands" if they want an "african" education and prefer being with their own people. What exactly is an "african" education anyways Punk?

If you see the Punk hunting it's no wonder he wants the gun registry abolished. I think I posted him hunting before, what the hell I'll post it again.

I like defunding the CBC....but are we missing something more important than any other issue in Canada. Free Speech and the Kangaroo Courts. The first action should be the repeal of Section 13. But I'm NOT holding my breath.

Action 2 should be the CBC defunding.

Action 3 will allow BC decide if it wants to drill off its own coast and for the Feds to stay out of it.

You people will destroy this country just like your buddies to the south have destroyed theirs. Your filthy way of doing things is sick.

Whatever happened to democracy?

How can you write about destroying a political party, It's bad enough you had to use the failings of another party to get yourself elected but now you want to completely destroy them.

Why don't you just wage war on anyone who's not conservative in this country. You could finally use those handguns you own that serve no purpose other then giving you rednecks hardons

How about we don't wage war on anybody and use the handguns for what they are meant for...self defense against criminals.

Liberals have been running wild in Canada for decades. We have moved so far to the left it is really scary. One example is all the liberal judges that have been put in place. It is no wonder our laws are so soft.

The CBC is so far left they are an embarrassment to Canada. They are a collection of left wing lunatics - and they need to go. Sell it off to the highest bidder. Hockey Night in Canada will look just as good on CTV.

The Conservative's should focus on letting the majority rule the roost and put special interest back where it belongs. They should however, leave health care alone - I line up on the right - but do not want the US system of health care here.

I also agree that ALL provincial and national Human Rights Commissions should lose their powers. Or at the very least stick to hearing valid Human Rights Complaints. Hurting someones feelings does not count - time to toughen up some. Freedom of Speech needs to get stronger. If someone wants to critique Islam or Homosexuality - so be it.
