Mainstreet misogyny

News from Kelowna, B.C.'s always-energetic pro-life group: "The City of Kelowna has officially proclaimed Sept 28 – Oct 4, 2008 as 'Protect Human Life Week.' The proclamation comes on the heels of Henry Morgentaler being awarded the Order of Canada for his life as an abortion crusader."

Hmmm. Protect Human Life Week, eh? Sounds like a clandestine way of attacking women's rights. And when you attack women's rights, you discriminate against and hate them, right? Human Rights Tribunal, here we come....

I'd like someone to explain how objecting to terminating inconvenient unborn on moral and ethical grounds amounts amounts to misogyny. Or for that matter, to explain how can one ethically derive one's rights at the expense of another's.

This "Quiet Revolution" generation is simply so full of itself that we'll probably just have to wait for them all to die off before we can hope for change for the better. The baby boomers have always and will always vote for whatever they want, when they want it, and damn the consequences--provided someone else pays them.

They can't. It's hyperbole and inflammatory. As not every women will get or would even consider having an abortion, it cannot be said to be directed against women, hence not misogyny. A corollary would be that there are also men who are for abortion. Would that be misandry?

H20, the only reason this absurd notion has any traction at all is because an entire generation of "liberated" women has come to see it as a symbol of that liberation. And women have the gall to say that men are the violent sex.

For all the time women spend in front of the vanity, you'd think they'd have a more accurate image of themselves. Or maybe they already do, and just don't want men to find out.

Stereotyping of women is unnecessary.

"And women have the gall to say that men are the violent sex."

As is society's bigoted stereotype of men.

Could not help but notice mention of the Next step in the assault on human life in this press release. "last month Quebec MP Francine Lalonde introduced a private member’s bill in Parliament seeking to legalize physician-assisted suicide in Canada.'

I suppose that means we had better start the campaign to have Jack Kevorkian receive the Order of Canada. Could take a bit longer than it took Henry as Jack is not a Canadian but hey, we changed the rules for Henry, why not Jack?

H20, more women spend inordinate time primping than men commit violent acts. Stereotypes are usually based on truth; the only variable is how extensively that truth applies. The vanity of woman has been documented by every major society throughout history. Either they're all lying or mistaken, or it's true.

...Shane, you need a balanced approach to your statement of the vanity of women just being the woman's fault.

Simple economics - Supply and Demand.

It takes two to pimp.

And I agree with Servant, the next step is in process. Where does one draw the line?

"It takes two to pimp"? At the risk of getting all technical here - it takes three, surely?

I merely said

"Stereotyping of women is unnecessary.
...
As is society's bigoted stereotype of men."

It still is unnecessary and certainly not helpful despite the degrees of truthfulness.
