Canada's French connection (Bardot gets fined)

Brigittebardotpics011_2 While the BC Human Rights Commission tribunal roars on like a giant three-ring circus complete with kangaroos, journos, politicos, clowns, and bloggers, former French screen legend and animal rights activist Brigitte Bardot gets fined for "promoting discrimination and spreading racial hatred." Again.

From the AP:

"In the December 2006 letter to Sarkozy, now the president, Bardot said France is "tired of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts."

Bardot, 73, was referring to the Muslim feast of Aid el-Kebir, celebrated by slaughtering sheep.

French anti-racism laws prevent inciting hatred and discrimination on racial or religious or racial grounds. Bardot had been convicted four times previously for inciting racial hatred."

It's the "slaughtering sheep" part that she's so angered about. Said her lawyer: "She is tired of this type of proceedings... She has the impression that people want to silence her. She will not be silenced in her defense of animal rights."

What's a politically correct leftist to do? Side with Bardot for the sake of animal rights, or side with the government for the sake of racial harmony?

While BB may be a committed animal rights person, the animal rights issue is spin from her lawyers. She has stated many times that muslims are a big problem in and for France. In her book " Pluto's Square" she says "...my country, France, my homeland, my land is again invaded by an overpopulation of foreigners, especially Muslims." And in "A Cry In the Silence" she refers to muslims as invaders and wrote that islam was incompatible with western values and directly responsible for 9/11. What ever you think of her animal rights shenanigans, or her movies, this is her fourth conviction for "spreading racial hatred". The lady has guts.

She looks pretty good in that photo for someone who is over 70 years old ;-)

I was just going to mention she sure doesn't look like this picture now.

I would have more sympathy for her if she weren't such a peta like freak when it comes to animals. I remember her fanatical rants on the Canadian seal hunt... so ... too bad Brigitte ....
