State Dept. #2 admits ChiCom arms in Afghanistan and Iraq

The arms weren't with the good guys.

Even more frustrating, the Deputy Secretary of State didn't mention this in his opening remarks; it had to be drawn out of him by questioning Senators.

Why?

Why would we think that the chinese are different than any other arms merchant. This is what free enterprise is all about. If there is a buck to be made they will be trying for it and the chips can fall where they may. It is in their best interest to see the USA weaken to the point of losing superpower status. The haste to outsource our industrial capacity has made it possible. While they grow stronger, we grow weaker. All so that we would'nt have to pay decent wages and fringe benifits at home. Who could'nt see this coming ?

No surprise there.

You have pegged it exactly as it is peterj.

Dummies are us. We'd sell our hearts and souls for the almighty dollar.
Just pay attention to some of the people who are trekking back and forth to China "on business", even former PM's of this country.
Greed and stupidity will take us down, the Commies will prevail with a lot of help from us. If they're out to prove Communism will tear down Democracies, we're sure helping them do it.

That's what happens when Commie inspired Unions take over and take us out of business.

Lizj...I agree that Unions can be as bad as corporations but in most cases they fought tooth and nail against outsourcing, accepting wage and benefit cuts to no avail.Look back on pre-union days and you find terrible working conditions,12 hour work days, six days a week with no benefits at all.We can thank unions for the middle class and the standard of living we have today. Unfortunately the pendelum always swings too far and many unions today are as corrupt as the corporate elite. If you work for a fair and decent employer you don't need a union. If unions disappeared altogether we would slowly regress back to where we started from. The proper balance seems very elusive.

You'd rather the bad guys be armed by Tavors or XM8s? Or worse yet, financially self reliant enough to design & produce their own weapons systems? At least we know what the Chinese weapons are capable of.

Pattern Recognition, no, I'd rather see the bad guys unarmed completely.Way too late for that.Don't forget that they now have their own space program which has been successful so far. They are not playing catch-up any more. They are cought up. If we have it,they have probably copied it and I doubt if the quality of their military hardware is as crappy as the junk they send to these shores.
