See no evil

It's been a full week now since Maclean's published its shocking story about abortionist Henry Morgentaler's 1973 letter to then-PM Pierre Trudeau. An equal amount of time has passed since Lifesite.ca published my essay on the subject. I also blogged about the letter on this site last week.

And since then? Silence. No follow-ups in the news pages of the daily press. No editorials. No columns. No TV. No radio talk shows. Nothing. And, of course, no one has contacted me about my role in affair. (As reported in Maclean's, I provided the letter to the magazine.)

But any way you look at it, this letter was and is newsworthy, and as the great columnist Trevor Lautens opines in his North Shore News column today, it should have been front-page news across the country.

To recap: Morgentaler all but breaks patient-doctor confidentiality in his letter, delivers a between-the-lines threat of blackmail, and at the very least shows a complete lack of judgement and discretion. Read my essay, Lautens' column, or the Maclean's story for more of the details and then judge for yourself.

And also judge the mainstream media: Was it a deeply entrenched bias that prevented them from covering this story?

To the mainstream Canadian left, Trudeau is bigger than Jesus - an opinion that he doubtlessly shared in life.

I wonder why nothing has been said? I do remember when the decision to legalize abortion was raging in Canada. Everyone I knew was dead set against it (too many of the Greatest Generation had seen too much death and they cherished life). When the politicians (many of them Catholics) legalized the abortion as a routine procedure - the people I knew were shocked and ashamed(of electing that type of politician and how low the country had sunk) and outraged - but some people thought it was a form of birth control for people (mostly women) who 'made a mistake'.

Now we find out that a criminal (this Morgentaler was a criminal at the time) was interfering in the government of this country at the highest level and there is no outrage. Maybe the Puffins pushed us so far with their corruption that we have no sense of outrage?

I share your concern Mr. O'Neill.

MSM had been the enablers of a decade or more of Liberal government corruption and malfeasance.

Nothing is changing in the leftist soul of the corporate entitities to this day.

Prime Minister Trudeau was a very dedicated and strict Roman Catholic from a well known Quebec family, whose fame in French Quebec was earned as outstanding Indian fighters. I have read a lot about PM Trudeau, and doubt the veracity of the MacLean's
story. I would'nt touch MacLean's at all, except for their support of Mark Steyn and their on going battles with the Human Rights Commissions, and the Muslim Hordes.I remember when MacLean's employed real Journalists and Reporters.Sadly they have all departed -MacLeod

To Jack MacLeod:
Your comment is uninformed. The Maclean's article was and is solid. I know. I have seen the document upon it was based and am familiar with all the details of the story. If you question Maclean's veracity in this, you question mine. Do not doubt this.

That despicable P.O.S. Mortengaller (and his bigoted tribe of extreme feminists) have promoted the positive impact of the so-called "Muslim Hordes" on our Canadian future.

Thinking people know that the media have long been big supporters of so-called "choice" to kill the child in the womb by abortion. As to Morgentaler, criticism of him in the media is very rare if at all. "Birds of a feather flock together" as the saying goes.
See the atrocity that the "media" won't show and many politicians support at:

I am going to wait and see how many women make a comment on this blog about this story.

So far the outrage is from the men only.

Hey Rocket Scientist.

a) hard to tell who the women are on this post

b)women are all over the web protesting specifically about the Canadian media's lying misrepresentation of life issues - including the lie that all women support abortion.

for your edification ProWomanProLife - http://www.prowomanprolife.org/; BigBlueWave -http://bluewavecanada.blogspot.com/

Both are popular blogs by Canadian women who despise the judicial activists, the lame Catholic politicians of our heritage (sorry, Jack) and the lying press.

Also several of the journalists with Lifesite News (Cdn website) are women. We are well represented - even if the media tries to ignore the voices of women while at the same time duplicitously proclaiming their 'support'.

What did you expect. If the MSM doesn't break the story, and it doesn't support one of their owner's agendas ...silence ensues.

I have not bought a MSM paper in years. I do not need to be told what to think.

Well, I'm a woman and I won't comment on abortion, but I will agree that this should have been front-page news and on every national newscast.

Good for you Joan.

I remember leaving an 'informative' comment on your blog some time ago.

I have noticed though that a lot of guys get really upset when I say that what happens between the thighs of a woman we will never know is now of our damn business.

It's like these guys think that everyone has been born and raised in the perfect version of the Cleaver family.
And anyone who hasn't been is second rate or inferior.
