Canadians support RCMP probe into Bernier controversy: Poll

Maxime_bernier_3 If someone you cared about left an important document at your house, would you make immediate arrangements to return it?

That’s the question I’d like to ask Canadians in the context of the Maxime Bernier controversy.

Why would Bernier’s girlfriend, Julie Couillard, keep a confidential government document and use it as a weapon to destroy his political career?

Unfortunately, my question wasn’t put to Canadians. Instead, here are the key findings of an Angus Reid poll released today on this matter:

» 57% think an RCMP investigation into the security breach is warranted
» 53% think the Bernier situation raises questions about the Prime Minister’s judgment
» 33% agree with David Emerson's interim appointment; 50% are not sure

You can read the complete poll results here:

I support an RCMP investigation. I also hope they don't find anything. I just think it's necessary to clear the air.

How about a poll concerning our HRCs? Now that truly would be an issue of vital and national importance.

Alain- Eventually national security as well.

I'm beginning to think that the Liberals have an top level insider planted in the civil service feeding them classified information.
What would this say about our security system if an RCMP investigation found this to be true?

Another pop-up scandal over nothing. At this point the Liberals are just chucking mud and hoping something sticks. Removing the man from his post for this grave security breach was the correct thing to do; classified documents are serious business. Now the police and the feds should grill this girlfriend within an inch of her life to determine if she learned anything and whom, if anyone, she may have told. But trying to bring down the government over it is just plain ridiculous. The Liberals might actually be able to craft some policy of their own if they didn't spend so much time dragging the Conservatives through the mud.

Frankly my dear I don't give a damn. Call in the RCMP to "clear the air", whatever. It will never satisfy the howling banshees in Opposition Liberal and Bloc seats anyway. They're nothing but a pack of assholes trying to make political hay. If they really seriously cared about the "security of the Country" they'd have the guts to vote the Government out.
They'll just have fun at our expense with the Jackasses in the MSM, doing tabloid journalism ad nauseum.

I agree Shane. There needs to be a thorough investigation of this woman. She has a very long history of using sex to further her standing. How many dead ex-partners does it take to ring the alarm bells?

Does this mean that the Lefties will now admit that exposing state secrets to mistresses is not kosher?

Monica Lewinski giving BJs in the oval office during a presidential phone call comes to mind.

To quote Clinton: This is old news. Let's move along

If the RCMP are to investigate "Boobgate" on the taxpayer's dime, they will find out that Bernier was set-up by the biker-chick, her organized crime friends, and Liberal beaureucrats in the Foriegn affairs department. Max Bernier showed a serious lack of judgement and paid the price, and predictably the MSM makes a hero out of the Hells Angel girl, how nauseating. Another manufactured smear, with the Librano/Media alliance lighting their torches and chasing the monster off the cliff...pathetic.

Charles Adler is telling it like it is about this biker moll.

Mike Duffy and friends seem to think Quebecers will rally around Bernier and think he's sexy. He seems to forget that Quebecers suffered through a long biker war that left many innocent people dead, including children.

The attempt to turn her into a victim is definitely nauseating Sean. There sure are a lot of people who don't have a clue about the lifestyle of the hells angels. This is no place to get graphic, but a lot of people would sleep in a fetal position for a week if they got a glimpse of some of the filth that girl has experienced. And gone back for more several times.

The whole affair smells like a PMSH set up to get rid of an embarrassing Quebec cabinet minister without having to pay a Quebec price. I doubt the alleged sensitive documents were particularly sensitive. Had they been, functionariies from the civil service would have been looking for them and asking pointed questions. Anyone who has ever handled secret documents knows what a close accounting is kept of such material. If I am right, it is a pitifully sloppy hatchet job.

Wow - when everything the Libs asked proved to be a valid concern, you former defenders of this clown (like you Liz J) sure blow a gasket! Swearing, conspiracy theories and everything.

You'd think national security would be the one thing CONs would get right, but no. O'Connor, Mackay, Bernier and Day have flamed out in a truly spctacular way.

Now with temp PM Harper bungling a message to Berlusconi today, it's like Max 'heckuva job' Bernier was never even fired!

Bahaha! keep it up Canada's Amateur Government! The downward spiral is picking up speed for you.

DML, I wouldn't be surprised if the documents in question were merely "Protected A." Basically that means somebody's SIN number is on them. Still, what would you say about a doctor who misplaced the medical records of his patients, only to have them turn up in the parking lot of an insurance company?

It is funny how pre-boobgate, Bernier oozed charisma.

Now he looks like a complete dumbass. Which of course he is and likely always was.

Obama?
