Your Sunday distraction

While everyone was busy commemorating the stupidity and evil of Communism by turning out their lights for an hour so that they know what people like Andrea Mrozek and myself (I was born in Communist Poland) had to live through, I was busy looking for videos that celebrate our technological advancement, scientific knowledge, and general awesomeness. Here's something I found that's worth watching:

(Wait... that whole "turn out the lights" thing wasn't about Communism? What a shame...)

...gee that video just sounds like my Ford 4X4 Triton V8 when I start it up in the morning.

This from a guy who drove a Chev Sprint for 10 years...

The best commentary I read on yesterday's "Earth Hour" came from Professor Don Boudreaux of George Mason University in the form of a letter to Carter Roberts, president of the WWF, the organization which started the event last year:

"Dear Mr. Roberts:

You and members of your organization worry that industrialization and economic growth are harming the earth's environment. I worry that the intensifying hysteria about the state of the environment - and that the resulting hostility to economic growth - might harm humankind's prospects for comfortable, healthy, enjoyable, and long lives.

So I commend you on your "Earth Hour" effort. Persuading people across the globe to turn off lights for one hour supplies the perfect symbol for modern environmentalism: a collective effort to return humankind to the dark ages.

Sincerely,
Donald J. Boudreaux"

Succinct, profound, and right on the money.
