Now it's only 'many' scientists

I detect at least one admirable note of prudence in this Canadian Press story about the start today of "complex" new talks to produce a Kyoto II agreement. Specifically, this line: "Many scientists and the United Nations agree that the world needs to stabilize emissions of greenhouse gases in the next 10-15 years and slash them by 50 per cent by 2050 to prevent rising temperatures from triggering devastating changes in the environment." Note, the story does not say most scientists, or a scientific consensus, but simply "many" -- a number which could mean a minority, of course.

However, the story goes in the other direction with this one-sided declaration: "News of accelerating effects of global warming, such as the recent collapse of a massive chunk of Antarctic ice and worsening cyclones and flooding, has put even more pressure on the UN talks to provide decisive action." Omitted, of course, is any recognition of the deccerlation of global warming, as manifested in this winter's (and spring's!) unusually cold weather.

The fact the big fat Albert Gore is now raising 300 million dollars for a renewed campaign to bring us yet more awareness about global warming is evidence he is failing.

One would have thought that an academy award winning forced-to-watch dickumentary plus a Nobel prize for him and the United Nations, plus every government in West groveling to appease the eco freaks would have gotten the message out there.

This is all more bullshit for the regressives to get more of our money for their phobias and to line to pockets of the Leftist elites.

Adn mostly about bringing down capitalism in the West and nothing more.

Where will it end?

How long will we have to control the planet's biosphere once we start. It WILL keep on warming and cooling and warming and cooling and warming and cooling and warming and cooling.

Don't let the sun catch you crying.

Time for a drink.

"News of accelerating effects of global warming, such as the recent collapse of a massive chunk of Antarctic ice and worsening cyclones and flooding, has put even more pressure on the UN talks to provide decisive action."

1% of the ice from an Anarctic peninsula collapsed. Say it ain't so. Who'd a thunk that glaciers actually moved?

Worsening cyclones and flooding? Where? Eastern Canada? Where snow packs are the largest they've been in a quarter century. Global WARMING?

Smells like the apocalypse...or teen spirit. Where is Kurt Cobain when you need him?

...and don't forget the cooling ocean temperatures over the past 10 years as stated by NASA.

Some counterpoints to the cooling measurement thing. You can read them yourself and join in on the discussion over at an actual climate site.

PR,

Please enlighten us on your scientific qualifications allowing you to categorize

"real climate" as an actual climate science site.

Before you answer, I have 2 ADVANCED degrees in physics, experience in computer modelling, and I'm a curmudgeon.

I await your qualifications.

Yeah the 3000 plus bouys that are in our oceans constantly giving data to satellites about ocean temperatures, have proven that the earths ocean's have been cooling ever so slightly for years.

We see the wicked cold snaps that have affected almost every part of the world and we blame it on Global Warming.

We see that over 500 scientists who disagree with the UN's panel of so called experts and scientists were shut out of the Bali conference.

We see that the NASA hockey stick was exploded last year and proved the hottest temperatures ever recorded in our times was in the 1930's, not 1990's.

We see evidence that Mars is warming, but that cannot possibly have anything to do with solar activity, but someone must have landed an suv there.

When are we going to end this indoctrination of our planet into sheep? How many scientists need to come forward and tell us that this is a scam, and when will our main stream media stop being a party to this madness?

Global warming is simply the greatest fraud ever attempted on the masses, and I believe Al Gore's interest in this is nothing more than money.

Al Gore is huge behind the push to build the carbon credit exchange, the reality here is he wants in on creating a new currency and he wants to be holding the bag. What kind of saviour is that?

Niv,

Wait!

Pattern Recognition is offering counterpoints

"Some counterpoints to the cooling measurement thing."

I await his expertise in deciding which scientists we should believe!

Is it really the greatest hoax? It certainly seemed to be the fastest growing hoax. I suppose that's because of the information age. Maybe that will be its undoing. Fires that burn quickly run out of fuel quickly.

Science did not make Kyoto I fail. Politicians did. They realized from the start that it simply cost too much. That's why Ontario was exempted from it, while trying to dump the costs on to Alberta. Fortunately Harper, a staunch Kyoto opponent as anyone with common sense should be, came to power and now Kyoto is dead. Kyoto II will suffer the same fate unless the exemptions promised to Ontario are removed once and for all (and those responsible for asking them are removed from public office) and a realistic implementation plan is devised. Until then, not one penny will be raised in tax or sent overseas. If that embarrasses Suzuki, Greenpeace and the like, so be it. There are human rights in this world and it is up to people to stand up for them.

I was working outside on a boat today just outside Victoria, BC, hoping the global warming would hurry up because I was freezing. Geez! This is Greater Victoria. The weather is crazy.

A cold winter does not mean the death of global warming hysteria. Years of ocean and upper atmospheric temperature readings, however, will likely spell its demise, although it will not go quietly because too many people are making huge bucks off fears of disastrous warming.

The hysteria rests on the out-put of computer climate models. The models forecast that the oceans and upper atmosphere would get warmer because of rising CO2 levels. These rising temperatures would be the undeniable signature of human-caused global warming, we were told. Well, something funny happened on the way to this virtual future. Mother Gaia proved to be a contrary old gal. Instead of warming the oceans and air, she has cooled them. These facts are confirmed by NASA. (This must be terribly disappointing to Calamity Jim Hansen, Al Gore backer and the godfather of global warming alarmism at NASA.)

DEWP, it is cold out there on left coast because the Pacific Ocean is about 1.5 degrees colder than normal. I spent from mid-Janaury to the end of February in Victoria and your temps now are just about what they were then. You did get the flower count done, though. Ours here in eastern Ontario is still some ways off.

Real Climate a actual climate site, huh?? it should be called AlGore's Flunkies.com; I'm sorry I wasted my time

x2para: Hello x2para. Sorry you wasted time on that other site. You'll not be wasting time on the Western Standard site. These bloggers are very good, no matter the individual leaning.
