It is a sad state in Canada when someone like Rex Murphy simply states the obvious and we are surprised that he is still permitted to speak. My own thought is that when the offending language gets removed from the Acts and the Acts are trimmed back to their original mandates, these bodies should be renamed from "Human Rights" to "Civil Rights". I think that is more in keeping with their original mandates.

Brent: "It is a sad state in Canada when someone like Rex Murphy simply states the obvious and we are surprised that he is still permitted to speak."

Actually it is only the tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorest commenters here who are so sure that the CBC (if not the media at large) is a subversive socialist organization who are surprised. People who know better will not be surprised by Murphy's comments. But you are right; it is sad that folks here are surprised.

Rex nailed it, as he so often has done, on a number of issues.
He seems to be one of the few (true) liberals left in Canada.

Doug Christie predicted back in the eighties when defending Kestra that it would come to this. He said that when you take away the freedoms of people who are un-popular and create a precident, it is only a matter of time and you will only speak words that are approved by the state!!

My fellow Newfoundlander Rex Murphy has done a good job here of putting things in perspective. Lets hope that his voice will ring true with the elite in this country who so far have been turning a blind eye to the disgusting setup and conduct of these commissions on these matters.

It is obvious that Rex didn't consider that by maligning those poor misunderstood folks at the human rights commissions that one of them could take offence at his remarks and initiate a complaint against him.
By the way where was Rex's righteous indignation when Link Byfield, and now Levant of the Western Standard were brought before the star Chamber er I mean the People's Human Rights Commissions? Oh that's right they are not based in Toronto.

I don't get this "where was he when--insert pet topic here" criticism. Rex Murphy has spoken up in defence of not only Mark Steyn and Maclean's, but Levant and the Western Standard as well.

Give credit where credit's due.
