Opposing 'liberal fascism'

Ron Gray, national leader of the Christian Heritage Party, has just issued a communique (not yet on the CHP's website) urging Canadians to light a fire under politicians so they will adopt an idea that I advanced last week in the National Post. My Post op-ed called on Stephen Harper and provincial premiers to amend the law so that human rights commissions no longer have the power to censor journalists such as Ezra Levant, Mark Steyn and, for that matter, me.

Here's the full text of Gray's communique, complete with its rather arresting headline:

A call to arms for freedom-fighters
Vancouver journalist Terry O’Neill, former editor of the Western Report magazine, had an Op-Ed in the National Post calling for ‘human rights’ legislation to be drastically altered, to prevent those tribunals from behaving like ‘Star Chamber’ inquisitions, trampling on Canadians’ rights of free speech, freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of religion (and, I would add, our Charter-protected democratic political rights).
We urgently need masses of Canadians to endorse Mr. O’Neill’s call for protection of our rights. NOW! How? Write or phone your MP!
In 1857, American anti-slavery activist Frederick Douglass warned:
"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."
But wait. Aren’t words like "tyrants" and "oppression" a bit too strong?
No.
As Jonah Goldberg points out in his new book Liberal Fascism, it has long been understood that when fascism comes to the democracies of the West, it will come as a smiley-faced, "nice" fascism, full of good intentions.
But fascism is still fascism. The heart of fascism is elevation of the State and its agencies to the status of little gods. The inevitable tool of fascists is using the power of the state to suppress ideas they cannot defeat with logic.
That’s exactly what "human rights" tribunals are doing in Canada—right now, today—to journalists, publishers and politicians.
And if we submit, as Douglass wrote—if we will not vigorously oppose the tyranny—we will deserve our chains.
And there’s another important issue, beyond the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press that are now under threat: defending democracy and our Constitution from the hubris of judicial activism.
Our courts have usurped Parliament’s exclusive authority of to write laws—and Parliament takes it lying down, without a murmur.
Why?
"The problem," said Senator Anne Cools at a 1998 conference in Ottawa, "is not just judicial activism. It is also cowardice in the House of Commons."
The Senator is right. We’ve been electing people to Parliament who lack either the vision or the courage to defend Parliament’s law-making authority and the restraint on tyranny we get from the division of government powers.
Of all the 16 registered federal political parties, only the CHP—the sixth-largest party, and the one the mainstream media never tell the public about—has a plan to defend democracy and the Constitution.
So who will bell the cat? Who will make the HRCs and judges keep to their proper spheres? It must be the people; and to do it, we must start electing MPs who are willing to endure the media’s scorn to defend the freedoms for which earlier generations were willing to risk their very lives.

They still exist and because of that they are being targetted by the same people who can abide no opposition to their version of truth. Like all of the above mentioned, the CHP is a victim of the politically correct thought police. Hard pressed to mount any electoral challenge anywhere in Canada they are now marginalized even further with human rights hearings. I mean who will be next on the agenda of the MacCarthy type hooligans operating at taxpayer's expense?

Zebulon, did you even read the article? It says: "The school – which would be open to all ethnicities – would open in time for the start of the September 2009 school year." Open to ALL ethnicities. Whether or not the school is a good idea, it hardly is a case of "racial segregation".

Politically correct verbiage. It is segregationist in all but its official charter and spin doctored press releases.

Its curriculum will be watered down and these poor children will be ill prepared for their careers and the responsibilities that go with being a citizen.

This make me furious when I think of how these children are being treated.

That's nothing more than officialese. If they made it a strictly, 100% black school, the idea would never make it past the courts or human rights boards. It would be too racist. As such the board voted 11-9 in favor of it, so there was strong opposition to the measure. Looks like there were a lot of Uncle Toms on the TDSB.

In the Jim Crow South, blacks had the right to vote but couldn't because of a poll tax (which also affected many whites). It was a way around the constitutional amendments which granted voting rights irrespective or race.

In any case, this shatters forever Toronto's self-declared status as a tolerant city. They've proven that the races cannot live and thrive in harmony. For the good of all, they argue, blacks and whites must be separate. That is segregation. From this experiment, I expect Toronto to expand segregation to all city services, stores, movie theaters, drinking fountains, neighborhoods (oops, that already happened), and libraries. The next thing you know, they're bringing back slavery as a way to curb black unemployment.

I live in Alabama where traces of segregation have been ruthlessly scrubbed away. Museums are the only places where they can be seen, and even then in a heavily sanitized way. I hope Ontario heeds the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement and the struggle against Apartheid in South Africa and Rhodesia and end segregation now. We shall overcome.

Zeb, Toronto isn't Alabama.

No one of any race will be required to attend the black-focused school.

No one of any race will be prohibited from attending the black-focused school.

Some people call that school choice.

Oh yes, it will be an all-inclusive 'black focused' school. Bull. Could you imagine what would happen if 'whites' and asians overwhelmed the enrolment for the school? No way the TDSB would allow that to happen, there would be no opportunity for pretty pictures then...

The TDSB should state what they mean by 'black' perhaps they could publish charts with shades that will tell us when 'black' starts? If this is going to be their focus, they must define the parameters.

It will be 'understood' that this is an Afro-centric school, intended for black students. Whites may be officially welcome but in practice they will not be. School officials would drive them out 'by any means necessary'. It's not like white people would really go to such a school anyway.

I've been around white Toronto people. They're a vulgar, nasty, bigoted people. I don't blame anyone who wants to segregate themselves from them.

I wonder if the TDSB realizes that they succeeded with thoughts of 'kindness' and 'service' where the the Ku Klux Klan failed to do with terror and violence.

Back to the topic, one can well understand the almost total silence in our agenda-driven MSM, but the same silence from government is or should be very concerning. Furthermore why has there been no discussion of implementing an independent investigation concerning the CHRC and its serial complainant?

A couple of weeks ago, I visited the Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. There, in June 1963, Governor George Wallace made his famous 'stand in the schoolhouse door' to forbid two African-American students from entering in order to register for classes. It prompted President Kennedy to press for a civil rights act ordering desegregation (one that he did not live to see implemented). I expect in a few years to see Mayor Miller or Premier McGuinty do the same.

Segregating Ontario's schools is a disgrace and must be ended now. Please, Prime Minister Harper, end this atrocity now! I recommend overriding the board's decision, force each member, even those who voted against it, to resign, and have them sign an open letter of apology to Nelson Mandela, Jesse Jackson, and Martin Luther King III.

How come we don't refer to Catholic schools as "segregationist". While the "Afrocentric" schools will be open to anyone (no matter how dubious you may feel that is), Catholic schools do not allow anyone without a Catholic baptismal certificate. While the "Afrocentric" may focus on things like black history and maybe try to impress on young blacks the notion of paternal responsibility (a big problem in that community), Catholic schools teach their youth that if you're not Catholic, you will not go to heaven, amongst other radical Catholic doctrine (such as no birth control, etc). So which is worse?

We already have segregationist, albeit fee-oriented, schools for Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and whites (known as rich-boy private schools that only rich white WASPy kids can afford). How is this any worse?

No so. My daughter attends a Catholic School and we are not Catholic. It was by choice to send her there. A good school, high standards with much, much less bullying and violence.

But as a practical matter, how many non-blacks will be attracted to an Afro-centric school? Use your brain, Fact Check. Our schools are Eurocentric because our COUNTRY is Eurocentric. And it's not like these kids are fresh off the boat--their families have been here for generations, and most have never even seen Africa, nor can they speak a single word of Yoruba, Fulani, or Swahili. The real problem facing black youth is fatherlessness and the attendant lack of decent role models.

I grew up and lived in Toronto for 40 years and every trip back I notice it's continuously rapid deterioration into a dump rather than a world class city.

I think that Mr. Harper should act quickly to prevent segregation from starting in Ontario. Until the TDSB and Toronto City Council reverse this decision, Ontario's MPs and senators should be suspended from Parliament.

Hey if these "Afro-centric" schools really want to be accurate, then it is a step in the right direction. They already represent Apartheid and the Jim Crow South by their mere existence. The next step will be to place a whipping post, stocks and a slave market in the school yard.

There is a not-so-subtle difference between apartheid an an Afro-centric school board.

The former is not voluntary.

Alberta has all manner of charter schools .. Muslim, Hindu, Christian ... a much more tolerant society than fundamentalist Ontario.

People have inherent free will.

Heard the promoter of the Afro-centric school and she does make one point with which I agree.

Most public school history is Euro-centric (which also happens to be my ancestry), The gal said they would teach history of all people around the world, including European history.

Sounds like a much more rounded education to me.

Surprise! Surprise! Governor Wallace - sorry, Premier McGuinty - refuses to stop the TDSB's segregation plan.

McGuinty opposes black-focused school plan

TORONTO — Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says he opposes plans by Toronto District School Board trustees to create the province's first publicly-funded black-focused school. But he says he won't overrule the contentious proposal.

I guess he'll be standing in the schooldoor pretty soon, like George Wallace at Alabama, Ross Barnett at Olemiss, or Orval Faubus at Little Rock High School.

Apartheid has come to stay in Ontario. I recommend a worldwide boycott of Ontario goods and services. If you see an Ontarian, tell them them to renounce apartheid immediately. If either Miller or McGuinty are re-elected after this catastrophe, then Ontario should be expelled from Confederation. So much for 'Canadian' values.
