The Lakota Sioux tribe is unilaterally seceding from the U.S.
From their press release:
Washington D.C. – Lakota Sioux Indian representatives declared sovereign nation status today in Washington D.C. following Monday’s withdrawal from all previously signed treaties with the United States Government. The withdrawal, hand delivered to Daniel Turner, Deputy Director of Public Liaison at the State Department, immediately and irrevocably ends all agreements between the Lakota Sioux Nation of Indians and the United States Government outlined in the 1851 and 1868 Treaties at Fort Laramie Wyoming.
“This is an historic day for our Lakota people,” declared Russell Means, Itacan of Lakota. “United States colonial rule is at its end!”
“Today is a historic day and our forefathers speak through us. Our Forefathers made the treaties in good faith with the sacred Canupa and with the knowledge of the Great Spirit,” shared Garry Rowland from Wounded Knee. “They never honored the treaties, that’s the reason we are here today.”

I have to confess sympathy for both separatist movements and Russell Means.
I was impressed that the Frontier Centre invited Means to Winnipeg to speak in 2004:
Means was also a Libertarian candidate for president in 1987:
One of my favourite books is Secession, State and Liberty:
By the way, David Gordon, the editor of this book, is on the Board of Advisors for Jews for Ron Paul:
You’ll find me over the Christmas break enjoying native hospitality at the Enoch Casino. I’ll be smoking fine, non-Cuban cigars in smoke-free Alberta:
I think I managed to cover aboriginal policy, libertarian politics, secession, Ron Paul and smoking bans in one rambling post.

I hope they get somewhere with this. They've had a long string of bad luck. This is not the same as what happens in Eastern Canada. These people have a legitimate case.
In the end, I suspect they'll get more shit and abuse.

Does that mean they don't get the white man's money anymore?

They don't get nearly as much welfare as their Canadian brothers. Besides, they don't feel free. I don't know about you, but this white man wouldn't trade freedom for a few bucks.

Can the Russian people do the same in Putin's Billion dollar Empire?
"Putin, the Kremlin power struggle and the $40bn fortune"
Moscow - An unprecedented battle is taking place inside the Kremlin in advance of Vladimir Putin's departure from office, the Guardian has learned, with claims that the president presides over a secret multibillion-dollar fortune. Rival clans inside the Kremlin are embroiled in a struggle for the control of assets as Putin prepares to transfer power to his hand-picked successor. Belkovsky claims that after eight years in power Putin has secretly accumulated more than $40bn.
AT LEAST $40 billion. He had so much more to work with than Arafart and total control.
But Leftoids still decry the Capitalist system, eh? Castro, Chavez, Kim, the Clintons, and the Red Chinese must be really jealous!

Will the old indian set up his own TV station to peddle his arthritis medicine too, or does this mean we won't be able to cure our aching hips anymore?

AS long as the Lakota have their Black Hills their ability to survive will be alot better than what most of you think. Yes many will die from sickness, taking that risk they know, they could also have a back up plan. Ever thought of that? I see it as they want to live free from all white man technology. If you would stop and really open your mind to this, maybe they want to live a life simpler than our own. Is that too much for one to ask? And yes also this could be harder on them, but the natives the true Americans of this country have shown to be strong.
This is same for any nation in the world that has been supressed as along as the Natives IN THIS COUNTRY have been.

Remember Small Boy?
Good luck to them. In some ways I envy them. Win or lose they're giving it a shot.
