"American(and Canadian) memory is unduly short, and the memory of 9/11 is steadily being lost to us".

Damn strait.

Excellent article and I really liked what Mr. Bolton stated.

We are a long way from there however.

Bolton's comments are interesting, however, is he not a racist for suggesting not all people, i.e. the Chinese, may not be "able" (to quote Mill) to sustain the institutions that lead to democracy. Is Bolton suggesting people's differences are more than just sjin deep?

God forbid, liberals actually applaud this position.

DJ you have to be given points for consistency. Mr. Bolton is referring to culture not colour or race. Islamists maintain that democracy and freedom are incompatible with Islam for example, and who am I or you to argue with them.

Islam can't co-exist with the idea of Democratic values and western style liberty. Democracy is a western tradition and Islam is an old oriental tradition. I am not sure how Islam can accept the western traditions when it is violently rejecting it.

Ok, but from whence does culture arise? It doesn't fall from the sky. It has to come from an evolving ethny/race who develop a certain type of government that enhances their survival in their environment. Where else? Russians are more authoritarian because dealing with invading Teutonic toughs or Mongol hordes does not an opportunity make for the growth of democratic traditions.

DJ makes a point with his last post.

culture, to an extent, is a crap shoot.

but when a culture has breathing room to evolve away from tribal collectivism, and rises to it's ideal, it embraces the sovereignty of the individual, and individual liberties are entrenched into a Constitution (to protect the individual from the tribal spirit).

...and when a culture has had this opportunity, it becomes a rare jewel, an example for the world to follow, and must be protected at all costs.

what kind of war are we fighting?
an objectively moral one.

can we win it?
we have to.

good night
