Schreiber requests a few days to get his story straight . . .
. . . sources have told The Canadian Press that Mr. Schreiber has asked for two or three days to review documents he has tucked away at his Ottawa home.
Mr. Schreiber is currently in detention at a Toronto jail as he awaits possible extradition to Germany, where he faces bribery, fraud and tax-evasion charges.
Mr. Schreiber's lawyer Edward Greenspan has also requested information on the hearings, said Liberal MP Paul Szabo, chairman of the ethics committee.
“I did get a faxed letter from Mr. Greenspan asking a couple of questions,” he said.
Granting Mr. Schreiber time to review his papers is not outside the realm of possibilities, said Mr. Szabo.
“That's not an unreasonable request that he have the time,” he said.

"we do not have a tradition in Canada of allowing witnesses to dictate the terms of their testimony."
Did he think of Jean the Creton when he said this?

Mr. Schreiber's lawyer Edward Greenspan once defended a rapist who had raped a 72 year old woman. When asked what the strategy of the defence would be Edward Greenspan remarked, "Our position is that she lied about her age."

If the New Conservative Government gives ole Karl Heinz enough rope he will hang himself on his own (more or less petard) if he admits he bribed a public official ie: Mr. Martin Brian Mulroney formerly the "Right Honorable" Karl Heinz can be
charged with an Indictable and nasty offence under the current Criminal Code of Canada Revised.Puffy Duffy was wearing his "Liberal Tie" a made in China
masterpiece given to him by NB Liberal MP Paul Zed
whom the Irving Empire restructured some time ago.
Szabo is not smart enough to be Chair of the "Ethics
Committee" "Ethics is not a word I connect to Canadian Members of Parliament. MacLean's reports today that "MP's are just like us!" no they ain't
most could never survive in the real world -who would hire them in any event? MacLeod

Send that fat old piece of shit to Fatherland ASAP. He is stalling for time and playing games. And send that fat commie Greenspan with him.
We can forgo the entire Mulroney thingy due to lack of participants.
That would be good.
What value will Canadians get from a one hundred million plus dollar ordeal over a measly three hundred thousand dollar kick-back. Compared to Chretien and the criminal Liberal party, Mulroney is a piker.

Heinz is trying to get himself something big enough to keep himself here.
And the Liebrals are doing whatever they can to help another criminal get away from justice.
They don't like it when good triumps over eveil--now do they?
And Liebrals don't like the current German Chancelor--she happens to be conservative. OK, OK, the first female Chancelor--had she been a Liebral, they would have shouted out loud--look what they do--but she is not, so they have to do whatever they can to play this thing out against both conservative governments.
See, conservatives don't look at it that way. Conservatives approve of the principles and values that define what is Universally good/right or bad/wrong. Liebrals get confused and don't know up from down--so they have to play at politics by being unprincipled and opportunistic.

What a bloody bunch of crackpots we have heading up that Parliamentary committee.
Ethics is certainly not a word connected to the LPC.
Heinz will have 57 ways to the truth to tell so he'll be wanting a bit of time and the Liberals don't give a damn about truth so it should be fun.
None of them have a clue what the Government has in mind on this case. It's an International issue and it's got to be dealt with by those in charge, not the assholes playing Gotcha politics.

So....who cares about some 30 year old back room deal? So lets open up a commission to see about Lauriers use of cash for votes...stupid. This idiot should get deported...and while they are at it, lets get rid of a few extra's too...

Why are Conservatives voting against having an ethics hearing ? Mulroney will do a mea culpa of sorts and admit the obvious , that he was getting on with his post parliament career . He belatedly paid taxes and who is to say if he took the cash 2 days before he was out of office or not , Schrieber ? There is no link to Harper. The attempt to make something of a Schrieber letter to the PMO is easily side - stepped. If Mulroney goes down , who cares anyhow. On the other hand , there could be all kinds of dirt involving Liberals , which will reenforce in peoples` minds that their corruption is generational. [ which it is ' ] .. Better to get out in front of it and throw the dice than to go for a 60 million dollar inquiry which is sure to piss everyone off , more than any Mulroney cash . The danger is to be seen supporting another inquiry , where a bunch of lawyers get fat.

On Friday's MDL, Tim Powers made reference to a letter in the National Post from an Assistant to the Deputy Minister in the PCO. She asserts that the PCO recieved the letter from KHZ, but did not forward it to the PMO, because KHZ was involved in a deportation case.
I saved the link, but that letter is no longer available at the National Post.

Okay, I found the letter ...
PCO didn't forward Schreiber's letter

Re: Letters To The PM Don't Go Missing, Don Martin, Nov. 15.
I am writing to clarify several issues relating to Don Martin's Thursday column.
Firstly, the headline of the column is misleading -- no letter went missing. All
correspondence processed by the Privy Council Office is kept on file for the prescribed
period of time. The statements attributed to a former supervisor in the correspondence
unit of another government, to the effect that "all correspondence addressed to the
Prime Minister is routinely forwarded to his office" is not accurate either.
Due to the volume and nature of correspondence, in fact the vast majority of it is not forwarded to the correspondence unit in the Prime Minister's Office, but is processed by the Privy Council Office correspondence unit.
As we have stated with other media representatives, the Privy Council Office
processes all incoming correspondence to the prime minister. In the case of correspondence from Karlheinz Schreiber, it was decided that replying would be inappropriate as a result of the author being the subject of an extradition
hearing, as well as his involvement in other litigation.
Finally, I want to reconfirm here for your readers the accuracy of statements made by the Prime Minister's Office, that the Privy Council Office did not forward the March 29, 2007 letter to the Prime Minister's correspondence unit.
Marilyn MacPherson, Assistant Deputy Minister,
Corporate Services, Privy Council Office.

So there ya go Donnie Martin, get your facts straight.
There is one thing we can all be assured of, if Harper said he did not get the damned jail bird's letter, he didn't get it. He has way too much class and honesty to lie about something like that and in the first place he wouldn't get away with it, he's NOT a Liberal!
I loved his reply in the HOC when asked by Dufus Dion about it, he said he wasn't about to become Schreiber's pen pal now.

I heard ndp Martin talking about a missing letter dated Sept 2007.
I want to know how the opposition is getting info on what is and is not being received by the PMO. Is KS giving them this info, are they writing them and getting KS to sign them.
If that is not the case, somebody in the PMO is a spy and should be discovered and fired.
KS should be charged with offering a bribe if the libs and ndp call it a bribe. But, isn't there a statute of limitations for such things. I think KS has muddied the water so much the truth will never be told. As a taxpayer, if the liberals are successful in having millions spent to trace 300,000 (non taxpayer money) I will be very upset.
I thought liberals are out there saying they want vvalue for money.
What has KS got on the liberals that they are bending over backward, trying to influence an inquiry, trying to keep a crook in Canada. What are they afraid of.
Willl KS be under oath when he talks to the ethics guys. Will the questioners be under oath to ask questions just relating to this, and not go on a witch hunt.
Posted by: MaryT | 2007-11-24 12:13:28 PM
Mary, they're already on a witch hunt, that's what this whole thing is all about. It's not that the Libranos care a toss about what went down with Mulroney and Schreiber, it's a gotcha game they mistakenly think they can muddy the Conservatives with.
KS will sing like a bird if it will keep him in Canada and it's the Liberal, Robert Thibeault who started getting chummy with him to get info. He must have been a regular visitor to the jail to get it.
This will be another plan gone horribly wrong because nobody is minding the store in Liberalville these days.
The people of this country are going to be royally peed off when they find out the cost of this game. The Libranos have no respect for our money, they are morally bankrupt long ago or they'd be looking for the 40 million still missing from Adscam.
This is political gamesmanship at it's worst ever. beyond the pale.

Only one solution to the practises being examined.
Cut off all corporate welfare.
Schreiber apparently was under the belief that he could get some kind of value from the $300,000 he allegedly paid Mulroney.
Of course, Mulroney could not deliver taxpayers dollars to Schreiber (the basis of his claim for a refund), since the Conservatives were held to two seats in the 1993 election.
Which leads us to the question as to where this value would come from.
Mark Milke, author of Tax Me, I'm Canadian, was on the Mike Campbell show this am. He calculated the cost of corporate welfare in Canada (that is, direct payments and nudge, nudge, wink, wink ‘loans' outside the taxation system) amounts to $11,000 per tax return filed.
Ralph Klein, bless his heart, had the solution. He refused to give any grants, subsidies or loans to corporations operating in Alberta. Instead, he lowered the tax rate for ALL corporations and equalized the playing field.
I'd like to see somebody ask Schreiber what he hoped to gain from his $300,000 payment to Mulroney. Obviously, it was somewhat more than $300,000.
Then, watch the vermin scurry for their hiding places under the rocks.

SYF: Whatever it was Schreiber was looking for it's not worth the millions the Libs and Dippers are willing to spend to find out.
Posted by: Liz J | 2007-11-24 3:27:51 PM
I wonder if Canadians see this whole Schriber thing for what it really is - John has put it all in a nutshell above - Schriber is a jail bird hoping to fly away free. The Dipper/Puffin/Bloc know their own when they see one - Schriber has been convicted in Germany, he can uncover any dirt about Malrony when he gets 'home'.
I don't think that the Canadian people are going to attach any importance to the testimony of a convicted crook. This is old history, it is interesting to History students but it is not current news. IMO it is an attempted 'set up' by the Power Corp outfit to reassert power over their puppets - did Unca Mo blow a gasket in China, is the head Puffin squawking? He must have contacted his media talking heads because they are all Kyotee, all the time today - Unca Mo wasts the cash for carbon credits -in China- right away; otherwise his whole agenda will fall apart and the eagles will gather for the kill of the Plump Puffin.
Kicking another dead horse(kyote)...all very interesting.
As for me I am stocking up with beer and popcorn for this 'show'. I want all the entrails examined by the witch doctors, I want the press gang and the liaryers called on the stand to 'clarify'. To trust anyone in the Canadian Press is foolish since the msm were involved up to their eyeballs. We need a clean sweep, lets go for it! I like watching the CPC and the lefto journalists squirm - it is fun for me.

"Unca Mo wasts the cash for carbon credits -in China- right away"
I suspect that is why they laid out the welcome carpet for Maurice Strong. If he fails to produce carbon trading cash for Chinaas promised, he may be asked to leave - or perhaps donate some organs to wealthy tourists in Beijing. :)

Thanks for that Jema54, couldn't have said it better myself!
The slime balls are leading themselves to slaughter.
Let's stock up on the beer and popcorn!
