The Ron Paul Problem

We have a problem here.

Of course, many of you know it already.  But, I think the time has come to make it official: Ron Paul’s campaign for the Presidency now presents a serious challenge to those who love liberty and seek its preservation against the Islamist assault on our civilization.  It is no longer sufficient to simply dismiss those who support him as a motley collection of nuts and morons. It’s not that I deny that many of them are – it’s just that nuts and morons get to vote too.

It is fashionable for conservatives to dismiss Ron Paul, citing his flat poll numbers – just a few percentage points in most polls.  I believe this to be a mistake – not only are national polls worthless in assessing the results of individual primaries, but they also fail to consider support that polls – especially polls partisan primary polling – might fail to pick up.  While there’s absolutely zero chance that Paul is going to win the Republican nomination, there is a very high probability that he will be able to raise enough money to remain in the race and get enough votes to continue to receive media coverage.  Worse still, it is entirely possible that he will win a sufficient number of delegates to cause trouble during the Republican National Convention (even, say, thirty could be a serious annoyance and disruption) and that he will go on to run as a third party candidate.  There is also, if Senator Clinton secures the Democratic nomination early, the possibility that the internet-savvy leftist nutroots might organize in order to give Paul the illusion of more support.

Of all opposing forces, fifth columnists are the hardest to defeat.  And that is what makes Ron Paul such a serious threat – because he is nominally a “Republican” he gets to go up on stage with the serious candidates for the Republican nomination and to spew his garbage all over the stage.

(It goes on and on and on at my blog.  As you might have surmised, I really, really, really don't like Ron Paul).

It is sad to see journalists who will not even research or read on the issues, and just spout what the elite class holding power are saying (for their own benefit, not for the benefit of protecting us from islamic militants you idiot). We need better journalism, but even more we need someone to dismantle the centrally controlled gravy train - Ron Paul for President.

Yet another ding-dong article. Learn your subject before writing...

Posted by: Paul | 2007-10-04 1:37:17 AM

Wow, those are some clueless statements. You should take a look at dailykos, and see how much those people hate Ron Paul. It's understandable, since he's the only Republican that can beat Hillary.

Posted by: Kyle Brotherton | 2007-10-04 1:57:18 AM

All you dreamers... Ron Paul has no shot of winning. He is a border line lunatic who doesn't seem to have any self control... Do we really want a President that cannot control his anger. He would have made a great one in the 19th century. So five months from now, I'll supply the kleenex for all those tears...

Posted by: hawnstyle | 2007-10-04 2:18:47 AM

In my 27 years on this Earth, I've never given a flying fuck about voting for President because they have ALL been bought and paid for pieces of shit. Ron Paul is a breath of fucking fresh air. He raised over 5 million dollars on an average of a $40 donation because the hard working PEOPLE are sick and tired of fucking nonsense politics and the bankers that run the country. NO MORE! There is nothing "garbage" about the Constitution of the United States of America you stupid mother fucking idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ron Paul 2008 or I'm moving out of the USA!

Posted by: Mike Costantini | 2007-10-04 2:26:06 AM

No matter where I go, the Ron Paul supporters always seem to be verbally abusive to the truth... that he is a looooong shot at best... You guys are quick to trash all the other candidates, but take major offense when others do the same to Ron Paul. I took a seriouly look at him after I researched some of the candidates... But you guys are so narrow minded my wife and I will be voting for Romney. He is the best by far... He will be for the people...

America is getting smarter every day - eight months ago Ron Paul was a long-shot candidate...

A Western Canadian (Alberta) here and I can tell you Adam is out to lunch and does not represent the majority of Canadians by any stretch.

The fact that Adam mentions "an Islamist assault on our civilization" just shows how completely warped his perception of reality is. It's draconian legislation like the Patriot act that has undermined liberty. Yet you read his blog and he accuses Ron Paul supporters of irrationality! This is a good time to point out that the Western Standard still denies that global warming is happening even after the oil majors have agreed it's a fact.

What Adam lacks in facts and research he makes up for in name calling. He's a VERY small minority in Canada, the support up here for Ron Paul is amazing. I've never seen anything like this for a US presidential candidate. Keep it up people!!

Go Ronnie go !!
He can save us from Hillary !! Lets face it no other republican has a prayer.

God Bless Ron Paul!...God Bless America!

Posted by: tyler | 2007-10-04 3:22:56 AM

The simply act of cutting off all aid and ties to Israel will promote the ideas of liberty 110%.

Go Ron Paul, save this country and our Constitution !

Posted by: Gene | 2007-10-04 4:33:03 AM

Yoshi, you are seriously disconnected. What Islamist assault are you referring to? I just looked in the backyard, checked with the Border Patrol--all's clear. My lying eyes must be deceiving me. True enough, if we continue to irritate the entire Mideast, they will be here, and we won't have enough military left to stop them.

Get ahold yourself, man.

"And if we all bowed down to Allah, gave up music,TV,alcohol, freedom, cartoons, and anything that produced pleasure, assholes would not try to kill us or everyone else that did not agree with Allah."

WE ARE ALREADY BOWING TO ALLAH! By giving up our freedoms (read: Patriot Act, overbearing executive branch, back-door draft, etc) we have already handed victory to the terrorists. THEY WANTED US TO BE AFRAID. And now we act like scared little school girls...and we shut down our freedoms to be "safe".

I AM NOT AFRAID. As Ben Franklin once said, "Those who would sacrifice Liberty for security deserve neither".

GROW SOME CAHONES PEOPLE.

Of all the betrayals in the conservative media, the Western Standard shows how filthy the hypocrisy can get.

The Western Standard is obsessively zionist, and schizophrenically teeters back and forth between foamy mouthed oil industry ass-kissing neo-con classism, racism and empire-building and yet it is occasionally buttressed by some of the best libertarian thinkers like Karen Selick and Pierre Lemieux.

Its animosity towards Islam is the result of Ezra Levant being publisher. He is Israel obsessed and hostile to Dr. Paul, because Dr. Paul won't be propping up oil kingdom Saudi Arabia (the Western Standard IS the oil industry, it is financed by an oil baron) or socialist and militarist Israel. President Paul would get out of Afghanistan and Iraq, which would break neo-con Levant's heart.

The audience for the Western Standard are largely Alberta Republicans who despise everything about Canada and can't wait for the Anschluss of Canada into the USA to become the oil supplying satrapy of Imperial America.

If Dr. Paul's vision of a constitutionally restricted federal government and free markets, individual liberty, no empire building, a humble foreign policy, security at home, a repeal of prohibition, all offer stability and prosperity for America.

"Ron Paul’s campaign for the Presidency now presents a serious challenge to those who love liberty and seek its preservation against the Islamist assault on our civilization."

should read

Ron Paul’s campaign for the Presidency now presents a serious challenge to those who OPPOSE liberty and seek its preservation against the Islamist assault on our civilization.

Yoshi, you really need to leave the emotionally charged FUD behind and do your homework. Don't let others tell you what to think - connect the dots for yourself!

Redwar... Thank you. I was wondering about this article. I'd understand it coming from a USA blog but a Canuck that is so ill informed, writing a blatant lie and piece of garbage reporting stunned me. Your media must be being paid by the elite too. What a shame. I had hopes you guys were a bit freer of them then we are but I guess not. Fight the power now while you may have some left up there.

Help fight for freedom and restoration of your rights in the US by voting for Ron Paul. He's not perfect but he's as close to getting us back on track as you can get.

Yoshi,

Ron Paul ga tsugi no daitoriyo ni naranakatara, america wa mo dame ni narimasu yo!

Think beyond your paranoia, google Ron Paul.
He truly is the only hope for America!

And I thought the Kos Kids were demented. Rue Paul's supporters have their tin foil hats - and they even wear them backwards!

So sad to see once good minds go to such waste.

Ron Paul is about to hit Robert Horry mode.

Posted by: Chris | 2007-10-04 7:03:54 AM

Register Republican today to make sure that you can vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. Many states are changing the rules and you have to register by October 12, 2007 in order to vote in the upcoming primaries.

Posted by: crldrummer | 2007-10-04 7:16:02 AM

Yes - register and spread the anti-Semitism of these jerks whose masks have slipped - if you've read their comments carefully.

Just another Soros-backed entity, trying to help the hag Shrillery take control of the USA and turn it into a Stalinist dictatorship.

Posted by: obc | 2007-10-04 7:20:02 AM

The islamic extremists are coming!!!! Oh, no! I'm so scared... I just wet my pants! But I'm going to make it seem like I'm really a tough guy by talking macho and saying we need to bomb those muslims back to the stone age. Yeah, that'll make me more manly.

Becauase remember, if we don't kill them there they'll come attack us here. Because right now we've got them pinned down in Iraq and their caves in Iran.

But we've got to sacrifice to win this war on terror. We need ID Cards! We need the government to have access to all our records. We need cops asking for our papers. We need to torture anyone who seems like a terrorist. Because otherwise we'll risk losing our liberties!

Oh, no! Poor United States! We need the government to take care of us and protect us! Please! Save us from the islamo-fascists! It doesn't matter that not a single perpetrator of 9-011 has been brought to justice. We still need to be saved!

Is this Paul guy the homosexual cross-dresser I saw on TV once?

Posted by: atric | 2007-10-04 7:41:51 AM

Ron Paul is a threat?? To what? He is surely a threat to despotic behavior and to big government.

Posted by: Helio | 2007-10-04 7:50:26 AM

The idea of an "Islamist threat to our civilization" ought to be recognized for what it is: a conspiracy theory. Furthermore, it is a theory unsupported by the facts. America's problems in the Middle East are a direct result of the policy of successive American governments. That policy has been, always and everywhere, to overthrow or subvert independent, democratic, nationalist governments (like Iran in 1953)and to support corrupt, repressive regimes like the Shah of Iran, Saddam in Iraq, Zia in Pakistan, Mubarak in Egypt and the House of Saud. If Ron Paul's policies were enacted, we could live in peace with the Muslim world and buy all the oil we need at a fair price from people who control their own destiny. The real "threat to liberty" is more of the same failed policies of the past 60 years.

Posted by: Gary Johnson, New York, NY | 2007-10-04 7:54:41 AM

You should fear Ron Paul. You neocon ways are coming to an end quite soon. The people are not buying your lies anymore.

Give my regards to George Soros, you androids.

Posted by: obc | 2007-10-04 8:06:12 AM

Reading the fanatical responses above, I must conclude that Ron Paul supporters fall into one group, and one group only: seething sociopaths.

Some of you sound like you would be very worthy contributors to the Fred Thompson Forum!

Neil ~

You are absolutely correct. If they were sane, they'd read their own posts and realize how off-the-wall they truly seem.

I have no doubt these are Soros-backed androids who are trying to mess with the Republican nomination process because Her Heinous is so afraid of Rudy being the nominee.

Not only would Rudy beat her but he'd give her a stiff run in normally Blue states like Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania - and even California.

In fact, we may end up seeing a McGovern type loss where almost every state is in play, costing Shrillery all of her campaign money - with very little remaining for her to keep for herself when it's all over.

And the fall-out would be a Republican-controlled House and Senate - as the anti-Hillary vote will be out in droves to defeat her Stalinist self from moving into the White House again.

America does not wish to be ruled by 2 families for 28 consecutive years!

Posted by: obc | 2007-10-04 8:36:33 AM

Guys...guys....c'mon! We're finally making progress with Yoshi. He's gone from calling us fanatical nut jobs to seriously worried about Ron Paul. That's progress! Two more articles from him and we might have converted him to the "force". Sometimes I wonder if critics ever just watch Ron Paul at a rally off of youtube instead of reading about him or seeing a whole 5 minutes of Ron Paul at a debate. Watch a rally, then decide!

Posted by: David Graner | 2007-10-04 8:41:59 AM

Watch a Nazi rally from 1936 - you too can be converted to the Mein Kampf cause.

Posted by: obc | 2007-10-04 8:45:37 AM

Now Yoshi and his more-visible fellow fascist pundits like Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity are starting to attack Ron Paul.

But this is great news!

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" - Mahatma Gandhi

Go Ron Paul!!

**RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT 2008**

Posted by: Steve | 2007-10-04 8:54:02 AM

The fact that Steve attacks the same talk show hosts that Media Matters falsely accused of words that they did NOT utter this week demonstrates who their allies in crime really are.

ALL SOROS-FINANCED Stalinists, trying to get Shrillery elected, but they are doomed to failure - especially now that the hag's speech has been exposed - boasting of her helping to found Media Matters.

Rudy will wipe her out - and will be the next President of the USA.

It must be very difficult for some people to comprehend how Paul raised so much money... I mean the "internet people" can't possibly have money or anything. I am an average American, not poor and not rich, I gave all I could spare last quarter to Ron Paul's Presidential Campaign- and I shall do again this quarter. I also volunteer my time and money to my local Ron Paul meet-up group. I believe in America and the Constitution and it feels good to be a part of the process. For those of you who are full of hate and anti-Paul you have my pity. We forgive you for your hostilities and hopefully all of us can come together again as a Nation at Ron Paul's inauguration. God Bless America.

Posted by: stefyblueyes | 2007-10-04 9:04:02 AM

The author of this article must be totally out of touch. Does he not understand, does he not read? They don't hate us because we are rich and free, they hate us because we are over there.

It is our misguided foreign policy that makes radical islam, not iPods and prosperity.

To those who can usse a spreadsheet, try this. Take the past 3 quarters campaign totals for all candidates. Now make a graph and plot the trend lines for donations. Now open your eyes and look at what is going on. Ron Paul is on a rocket ship and the others are in a nose dive.

Ron Paul is not a spoiler, he is really in this to win. He isn't here to destroy the republican party, he is rebuilding it before your eyes but you can't see that.

America is waking up from a long sleep and has found a great man with great ideas, and they support him.

Posted by: Dan Warner | 2007-10-04 9:05:30 AM

Well if you really, really, really don't like Ron Paul, I guess you really, really, really don't like the Constitution. I guess if your neighbor gives you a bad look that the most wise thing to do is blow his house up? I guess when your mother got pregnant she should of had an abortion. I guess you don't mind giving a huge chunk of your paycheck to the private corporation that prints money out of thin air and loans it to us with interest. Yes I guess I can see how you really hate someone like Ron Paul. Good luck with the status quo you moron.

Posted by: Jack D. | 2007-10-04 9:12:53 AM

Jack D. obviously didn't re-read his words before posting or he'd have realized how moronic he sounds. Then again, a moron usually does not recognize his own moronacy.

Posted by: obc | 2007-10-04 9:15:56 AM

Geez OBC, I just read what Jack D. had to say.
Just what was it though? I have a six year old grandchild that is more articulate than that.
Maybe jst the full moon talking.

Posted by: atric | 2007-10-04 9:25:28 AM

"It must be very difficult for some people to comprehend how Paul raised so much money..."

Actually, it's very easy to comprehend. In the immortal words of P.T. Barnum, "There's a sucker born every minute."

Posted by: Neil Flagg | 2007-10-04 9:25:34 AM

So this is all good. I enjoy bashing bad "journalism" or whatever this was attempting to be. But I think it is safe to say that Ron Paul's supporters can safely claim that they dominate the internet. We should be proud. Knowledge has spread well here.

The sad part is knowledge is almost completely devoid in the real world.

It just seems that all the energy spent posting to this blog is fun but after the first 50 comments about how wrong the writer is we should start hitting the streets.

This election will not be won on the internet. I promise you. Start making real voters.

Posted by: WeOwnTheInternet | 2007-10-04 9:28:45 AM

obc and atric:

I'm getting a sense of deja vu on this thread.

In my younger days, my then-wife and I went to a bar for a drink.

Wouldn't you know, a fight broke out and it tumbled right across our table.

Not sure where all these strangers have arrived from, but I'm sure it's a continuation of a fight that's been going on somewhere else.

Recognize any of the participants?

Posted by: set you free | 2007-10-04 9:30:41 AM

. . . especially since this is a Canadian blog!

You won't find many votes or donations here. But only 50 morons would spend their time in Canada, trying to elect an American president.

What losers these folks are!

Posted by: obc | 2007-10-04 9:31:45 AM

set ~

These are programmed androids. An email campaign begins, instructing them where to go each day.

If they had any brains, they wouldn't waste their time on a Canadian blog campaigning for an American presidential candidate.

Posted by: obc | 2007-10-04 9:34:32 AM

Perhaps you should get one of your socialized doctors to pull your head out of your butt...At least get on the waiting list. With any luck, you might be able to have it done by, oh, 2012.

And if you really think that radical Islamists are a threat to our civilization, then you find us to be too weak to survive.
