The Ron Paul Problem

We have a problem here.

Of course, many of you know it already.  But, I think the time has come to make it official: Ron Paul’s campaign for the Presidency now presents a serious challenge to those who love liberty and seek its preservation against the Islamist assault on our civilization.  It is no longer sufficient to simply dismiss those who support him as a motley collection of nuts and morons. It’s not that I deny that many of them are – it’s just that nuts and morons get to vote too.

It is fashionable for conservatives to dismiss Ron Paul, citing his flat poll numbers – just a few percentage points in most polls.  I believe this to be a mistake – not only are national polls worthless in assessing the results of individual primaries, but they also fail to consider support that polls – especially polls partisan primary polling – might fail to pick up.  While there’s absolutely zero chance that Paul is going to win the Republican nomination, there is a very high probability that he will be able to raise enough money to remain in the race and get enough votes to continue to receive media coverage.  Worse still, it is entirely possible that he will win a sufficient number of delegates to cause trouble during the Republican National Convention (even, say, thirty could be a serious annoyance and disruption) and that he will go on to run as a third party candidate.  There is also, if Senator Clinton secures the Democratic nomination early, the possibility that the internet-savvy leftist nutroots might organize in order to give Paul the illusion of more support.

Of all opposing forces, fifth columnists are the hardest to defeat.  And that is what makes Ron Paul such a serious threat – because he is nominally a “Republican” he gets to go up on stage with the serious candidates for the Republican nomination and to spew his garbage all over the stage.

(It goes on and on and on at my blog.  As you might have surmised, I really, really, really don't like Ron Paul).

"Ron Paul’s campaign for the Presidency now presents a serious challenge to those who love liberty and seek its preservation against the Islamist assault on our civilization."

Hmm... didn't Ron Paul vote to authorize the use of force against those responsible for 9/11? I'm about 120% sure that he did. So, where does your claim stem from? Got facts?

The corporate media will not give Ron Paul any Exposure. Because, NBC is owned by GE. GE is one of the world's largest war-makers. They make things that go boom. They make $Billions on war. A Ron Paul administration would be bad for business. CNN is owned by AOL. Majority share holder is Saudi Royal Talal who is also partners with GHWBush in The Carlyle Group. Another major warmaker. Ron Paul said in a debate that America was attacked on 9/11 because America was bombing Iraq. He's also the official candidate of the 9/11 truthers.

'nuff said.

Posted by: Neil Flagg | 2007-10-03 10:46:21 PM

This article is ridiculous and the author contradicts himself. How can the author say that Ron Paul pose a "serious challenge to those who love liberty" and at the same time claim that he has no chance to win and the worst thing that could happen is to "cause trouble at the Republican National Convention"????? The logic is absurd.

And how dare the author say that Ron Paul is a threat to liberty? This is hypocrisy in the extreme given that the author doesn't want the media covering Paul and doesn't want him in the debates. I guess whoever wrote this isn't too concerned with freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly.

More Iraqi civilians have died under US occupation then died when we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, the worlds largest embassy is now the US Embassy in Iraq, America is going bankrupt paying for foriegn entanglements around the world at the expense of future generations, and Ron Paul is our only chance to "Keep our Republic"!

Posted by: David | 2007-10-03 10:49:36 PM

He did indeed say that America bombing Iraq was one of the factors given by Bin Laden for attacking America. That is true. The 9-11 Commission report and the CIA confirms this is true. Our meddling in foreign affairs has cost American lives. Give us freedom at home, and give those abroad freedom from our self-righteousness. Who would Jesus bomb? RP 2008.

Posted by: Jason | 2007-10-03 10:49:47 PM

Ron Paul is referring to blowback, a concept that the CIA has talked about, he is not associated with 9-11 truthers! How about that 5 million which puts McCain out in the cold as a war candidate!! Please stop hating!!

Ron Paul supporters, if you are reading this, go donate $100 NOW!!

Go Ron Paul!

Posted by: Steve | 2007-10-03 10:50:20 PM

You assert that there is an Islamist assault on our civilization.

Islam is a religion, not an enemy.

People living in lands that are occupied by foreign military powers are angered as we would be if China occupied the United States.

If we changed foreign policy to not include invading, occupying, bombing, sanctioning, arming, and overthrowing, we would be far better off and safer as a result.

Posted by: Dave | 2007-10-03 10:52:39 PM

So, what's the problem?

What are you afraid of?

Grow a pair and become a real American.

Ron Paul is a real American. All the other candidates are CFR tools.

"Ron Paul’s campaign for the Presidency now presents a serious challenge to those who love liberty and seek its preservation against the Islamist assault on our civilization."

Gee, I would have thought the Patriot Act and the illegal acts of aggression by our current administration against other nations as well as against its own population would be a much larger threat. How badly deluded are you to think that the current direction this country is headed in any way preserves our liberties? Your thinking is warped and defies all logic.

Posted by: Rolland | 2007-10-03 11:00:16 PM

If we changed foriegn policy to not...........And if we all bowed down to Allah, gave up music,TV,alcohol, freedom, cartoons, and anything that produced pleasure, assholes would not try to kill us or everyone else that did not agree with Allah. I'd call you an idiot but that would be insulting to idiots.

HaHa - Ron Paul rules! $5.3 million cash on hand. DOUBLED fundraising from 2Q while Romney, Giuliani and McCain are down 29-55% in fundraising (and Fred is equal to Ron Paul with cash on hand). Ron Paul is a freight train rolling down hill and you can't stop him!

Also, Ron Paul is far more of a Republican and far more conservative than the above mentioned neo-cons. Paul votes for the least amount of spending in Congress, he is truly pro-life, he is the MOST pro-gun candidate by far and it has traditionally been the GOP position to get us out of useless, unconstitutional wars (see Korea and Viet Nam). Get out of Iraq and let them just killl each other over there. Ron Paul is a true conservative Republican - not some suedo Democrat, hack neo-con like Rudy McRompson.

Posted by: J.C. | 2007-10-03 11:02:08 PM

Is it still sufficient to simply dismiss Frudy McRomson supporters as a motley collection of nuts and morons? Seems to be working just fine.

It's so fun watching neocons panic.

Posted by: Dude | 2007-10-03 11:03:06 PM

What – are you people patrolling the internet 24/7 in search of anyone who says anything negative about your Golden Calf?

Paul’s a serious threat because:

1) He might run as a Third Party candidate and manage to split the vote, especially if his libertarian rhetoric draws in Republicans who don’t care about foreign policy (or if the nominee is Giuliani, he might draw pro-lifers).

2) His supporters are nuts who will, if let into the RNC, almost surely do their best to disrupt it in prime time.

And, of course, the threat that he poses to liberty needs not be explained at any length – he’s an apologist for the enemies of the United States (and Western Civilization) and, in a political and propaganda war, gives them courage by his words.

As to the matter of Islamism – it’s important to understand the difference between Islam and Islamism. Whatever the defects of Islam might be, modern Islamism is a separate entity, a death cult which fuses the most extreme (and often distorted) elements of Islam with elements of fascism and other totalitarian ideologies.

Wow, what a great article. So full of facts and truth.

Yoshi, are you blind or stupid? I am not sure where you get your information and why you would write such ignorant garbage with no valid points. For one to speak of garbage spewed all over stage, maybe you should look around ask around 90% of the people that know who Ron Paul is and his stances, are supporters of his campaign.
In my area I know a larger majority that support him more than any other candidate, but yes I admit this may be extreme sample since it is a college campus. But for this campus to have such an outstanding support of one candidate and for that candidate to have such under coverage by media is sort of mind boggling to me.
Then we have ignorant people like you posting content that the majority don't agree with .... and you act like we are crazy? we are the minority?

Posted by: Daniel | 2007-10-03 11:10:33 PM

I'm so sick of big spending, big government, liberal-Wilsonian-policy phony conservatives. Anyone who claims to be a conservative and doesn't support Paul is a fake. More people in this country want less government than more and that is why Paul is going all the way. Rudy is an ANTI SECOND AMENDMENT PRO PARTIAL BIRTH ABOTION and PRO PATRIOT ACT (anti 1st 4th and 5th amendment) cross dressing clown who's goddamn daughter works for Obama's campaign. And Shitt Romney is a local TV anchor with a rich daddy. So long, Neoclowns. We're sick of it. This is the USA, not the B of A.

What the hell were you thinking?....sheesh

"What – are you people patrolling the internet 24/7 in search of anyone who says anything negative about your Golden Calf?" Well considering he has well over a few million supporters vs the few hundred of you ... yeah like I said more people are for him then against him ..... Your the minority

This is a rather trashy piece of journalism.. Are you writing from Canada? or from mars? Look my good Canadian neighbor.. If the US caves-in - well you will be joining the party.. If you think that by giving the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton cartel another 4 years to rape a nation will make it all better.. then it may be time to wake up from your slumber. Why do you resort to name calling of people who are intelligent enough to know right form wrong? Have you any idea what a monster this Clinton woman is? Do you beleive for one micro second that she has the best interest of the US at heart? Hello?

1st they ignore you
then they laugh at you.
then they attack you

Welcome to stage 3. Ron Paul WILL win, count on it.

It must really bother you that the majority of military donations last quarter went to Paul. Perhaps the people you are sending off to die don't appreciate your willingness to sacrifice them for your foreign affiar fiascos as much as you think we do. Why should I die for your silly war? You're the one scared, you go fight.

Yoshi, grow up!

Ron Paul is more of a Republican than any of the others running.
He said he will NOT run as a 3rd party candidate.

He WILL do very well in NH.

The military loves Ron Paul.

There is nothing threatening about democracy running its course. Remember how democracy is so great that you need to spread it around everywhere? Whining like a crybaby when it doesn't go your way is not gonna help.

That's when we go into attack mode and expose the Rudy's and Hillary's of the world for what they are: Enemies of the American People and a threat to the Republic.

We don't die, we multiply.

I dont understand this...so should the only opinions we here be directly according to republican or democratic lines. Are new ideas this "threatening" to people. Let democracy take its coarse and stop being a fascist.

I find it interesting you think Ron Paul - the defender of liberty - would be a "challenge to those who love liberty." Maybe you should find out a little more about him before you say such libelous things.

Posted by: Nathaniel Tucker | 2007-10-03 11:53:40 PM

Ron Paul is the only candidate that makes sense. All the others have pathetic bandaid solutions that are just going to continue to run this country into the ground. Big government is too big, bloated, corrupt and overstretched. The bigger it becomes the closer the US comes to being a socialist state. The other candidates just want to throw more beauracracy at every problem and make Big Government even bigger, dumber and more pervasive. The bigger the government the more opportunity there is for corruption to creep in.

Isn't that the exact problem with the US? A big, corrupt government manipulated by big corporations and special interest groups.

The US is broke thanks to it's government. The government blatantly lies about the state of the economy:

1) Core inflation (excluding food and energy with substitution adjustments WTF?!). It's plainly obvious that inflation is going through the roof (just look at any commodity).

2) The dollar is tanking against all global currencies with nations beginning to dump USD.

3) A huge national debt that the government has no plan to pay back (WTF?!).

4) A credit/housing bubble that is collapsing before our eyes.

The list goes on..

Do the parties and candidates have any good solutions for this problems? Most of them don't even acknowledge these problems so you know we're just going to get the same BS next time around.

And what do the Dems want to save the housing bubble - more frickin' bailouts! With what? The US economy is a basket case!

Ron Paul is the most intelligent candidate I've ever seen and actually has valid solutions to these problems. His ideas may sound controversial but that's because the US public has been manipulated and fed BS for so long that it doesn't know which way is up.

There's a reason why Ron Paul has generated so much excitement. It's not because he appeals to internet loonies - what kind of naive and distorted statement is that? It's because the only exposure he gets is on the internet and people agree with him. If his message was delivered to more people via the main stream media he would leave the other lame duck candidates in the dust.

Hey,Dud, you missed my point, what a surprise. How many people in Iraq,Afghanistan,North Korea,or even Cuba,(90 miles away) can fire up thier computers and say what they want? You and your buddies from whatever site you are at should stop the circle jerk for a bit and appreciate that you are allowed your circle jerk.If you think that no one will attack our freedoms if they are just laft alone ,I strongly suggest that you visit New York and talk to the people there.

Posted by: wallyj | 2007-10-04 12:05:40 AM

Why does some jerk off blogger in Canada care about Congressman Ron Paul or the US Presidential race? Who cares what you think? If you had not put the words "Ron Paul" in the title and body of this little tired hit piece no one would have read this article. Ron Paul is the only reason anyone even reads your crap. If not for search engines directing people here from google news searches for Ron Paul you would not even have anyone reading or commenting on your garbage writing efforts.

Posted by: libertyman | 2007-10-04 12:07:37 AM

Hey Yoshi, when the Lucifer-worshipping CFR-humping power-freaky ghouls pay you in wads of cash to write this crap, don't go blow it all on crack and pink meth before you actually finish writing the piece. Words to live by.

This guy acts just like a democrat, calls names instead of debating issues. This is why I don't vote republican anymore, well except for ron paul.

Ron Paul '08

Posted by: Steve Stollenholtz | 2007-10-04 12:19:30 AM

So I guess the fact that Ron Paul is the most popular Republican candidate with military voters must mean that the soldiers who overwhelmingly support his candidacy above that of the Pro-War set (Giuliani, Romney, McCain, et al) are also a giant threat to liberty?
As for the "they hate us because of our freedoms" canard, that particularly shallow and idiotic bit of administration propaganda was demolished by no-less-than the one-time CIA head of the Bin Laden Unit, Michael Scheuer, who has written extensively on the subject- citing Bin Laden's stated positions on U.S. foreign policy. (No mention of, "I hate you because of your freedoms" on Bin Laden's list of grievances, despite whatever the neocon or likudniks are telling you... Consider yourself debunked, punk! )

The author should look at the support for Paul in his own country. And you are right about one thing, you socialists do have a problem and a Paul win or defeat has very little to do with it!

Posted by: Jeff Roark | 2007-10-04 12:33:23 AM

This post just goes to prove the Canadian Conservatives is a figment of peoples imagination.
Ron Paul is by definition a Conservative and a true Republican.

Every person that says they are a Conservative or Republican who denounce Ron Paul are really neocons. And neocons are neither Conservative or Republican they are extremist who may as well be communist.

Go Ron Paul... Hope for America

Out with the NeoCon Warmongers

Posted by: Jake | 2007-10-04 1:02:57 AM

The sheep are frothing at the mouths because they know that Ron Paul:

1) Has a much more popular view on the war than any Republican.
2) Has a clear solution to the sub-prime mortgage burst problem.
3) Embodies Reagen's small government stance MUUUCH more than any other republican.
4) Has a base of people that are really energized because of his message, the only reason most are the youth is because the mainstream media try to snuff him out, and the info about him only comes from the internet (a place which has much more 25 year olds than 65 year olds)
5) Most importantly, he isn't a continuation of our nation's most unpopular president.

why is Ron Paul going to win, to quote the often quoted Ghandi:

1st) They ignore you (they tried to call Ron Paul, just a small group of spammers, the 3Q earnings makes that impossible)
2nd) They insult you (they try to call us tin hat wearers, basement dwelling nerds, crazy furious fanatics)
3rd) They fight you (that's what you are doing and all these neocons who don't wake up and smell the coffee that Ron Paul is the greatest chance to make sure Hillary isn't president, Fred Thompson, Huckabee, Gingrich aren't going to save the day, RP will)
4th) Then you WIN

Posted by: FreedomFanatick | 2007-10-04 1:16:05 AM

BTW the "truthers" also supported first Howard Dean then Kerry in 04, they will just support anybody who isn't part of the establishment.

Ron Paul has more conservative in his left pinky, then any of the other doomed Bush ditto heads have in their entire bodies.

Like always, your Frudy McMitthompson can win the republican nomination, but will just be remembered as a Walter Mondale in the general elections.
