Pragmatic politics from the PMO
Even though I'm no supporter of Vancouver's addiction-facilitation, er, safe-injection site, I think its supporters have correctly concluded that today's six-month extension of its operating "licence" is designed to take the issue out of play during a possible fall election.
Savvy politics by the Tory party which, if it wins again, will then be in a position to close down the site permanently.

Six more months of people injecting poison into their systems. With a little luck, they'll kill themselves off - which seems to be their intention all along - and there will be little need for this industry.
If Leftoids REALLY cared about these poor wretches, they'd be in favour of forcibly institutionalizing them until their heads were clear enough to make good decisions.
But because they espouse the "freedom" to kill - be it abortions, euthanasia, or drug overdosing fools, these people will die on the false altar of "freedom".
BTW, euthanasia is an issue that has no interest for me. Why should I give a darn when it comes to Chinese Boy Scouts? :)

Sorry but I should rather prefer a political party that stands firm on its principles.

My comment was in relation to the topic and not obc's post.

Does this not fall into Liberal domain (via the site creation date?) Why should the Conservatives have to deal with a Liberal Party hot potato during an election?
Senator Larry Campbell states that government funded smack is "health care", Holy mackerel. No wonder we're in trouble, morality wise. What happened to enforced withdrawl as obc stated? Too many people with grand, useless, classroom ideas and YOUR taxes, that's what.

I'm sure our bold government will deal with safe injection sites just as soon as the gun registry is repealed and the projected 23 billion surplus is returned to taxpayers as an a tax-cut.

And here's a story you won't find in the media because (gasp!) it involves a DemoRat & not a Republican:
"Page Sues S.D. Lawmaker, Alleges Groping"
FORT PIERRE, South Dakota (al-AP)
A former legislative page sued a state senator Tuesday alleging he fondled him in a motel room they shared last year.
Austin Wiese, who was 18 at the time, seeks at least $250,000 in actual damages plus punitive damages from Dan Sutton, a Democrat who was publicly reprimanded by the South Dakota Senate in January after the allegations arose.
Following lengthy hearings, senators said the charges were never proven but that censure was appropriate because Sutton admitted he had shared a motel bed with the young man. No criminal charges have been filed.
Sutton, 37, did not immediately respond to telephone messages seeking comment Tuesday, but he denied the allegations during the Senate investigation earlier this year. "I didn't do what Austin is claiming that I did," he said then.
Wiese's lawsuit says he has suffered mental anguish, shame, indignity, embarrassment and other harm because Sutton groped him. The lawsuit alleges Wiese's conduct amounted to two counts of sexual battery and two counts of sexual assault.
The Associated Press generally does not identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault, but Wiese's name was used in a public hearing that was carried live on the Internet, and he and his family have discussed the case in the media.
Sutton invited Wiese, a family friend from their hometown of Flandreau, to share his motel room when the young man was a Senate page during the 2006 legislative session, according to the lawsuit. Sutton and Wiese shared a bed in the room, the lawsuit states.
BUT LAST YEAR'S Foley scandal involved a Republican who emailed some pages suggestively - but never touched them. THAT made headlines, but this creep who groped a page - SILENCE FROM THE DRIVE-BY MEDIA!

The above story is now being reported on CTV's web page with room for comments. Once again, my comment to them was not included, but the one that blames greedy westerners for wanting gold rings and blaming them for this collapse was included.
The enemedia strikes again!
My comment?
"I'll pre-empt the ususal Leftists who post here by saying: It's Bush's fault!"
