Australia's election

A few weeks ago it looked certain that John Howard, Australia's four-term prime minister, was going to lose to Kevin Rudd in the upcoming vote down under. Howard's party is called Liberal, which is literally accurate -- he has been a strong booster of western liberal values when it comes to Australian citizenship and Australia's alliance with the U.S. It was Howard who, after 9/11, famously said it was no time to be an 80% ally.

Today, the polls are tightening, though Rudd remains in first. But even if Rudd wins, don't expect to see any appreciable shift on the big issues of the day -- the war on terror, the inculcation of western values into new Australians. Here's Rupert Murdoch's bullish comments on Rudd. Here's a despondent leftist lamenting Rudd's pro-U.S. policies and his support for the war on terror. And here's Rudd on the Israel-Hezbollah war last year.

You are a week behind mate.

Rudd just moved to a massive Landslide in the latest Newspoll.

I think you need to keep a closer eye on the Australian political scene.

And the polls tell us that John Kerry is the US President.

Not sure where you reside cobber, but it would appear your information on Australian politics is flawed.

Today they tightened?
You posted on the 24th, a day after Rudd increased his lead on Howard.
Please explain where your information came from to come to this conclusion.
BTW, a Rudd Government will withdraw troops from the mess in Iraq.

I hope that Howard can make it. The world needs political leaders like Howard (and a whole lot more like him).

"the mess in Iraq"

Sounds like a cut-and-run liberal or a dipper. The situation in Iraq has improved immensely since the surge. Even Bin Hidin' had to crawl out of his cave to give a pep talk to his thugs in Iraq recently.

I will hate to see the same smarm that is corroding the Americans from within, happen in Australia. I see Australia the same way I used to see John Wayne. Take no shit from anyone and be proud of it.

I don't know much about Australia, but I think it's 6? major cities, all coastal, make it an easy target in a nuclear world.

Appeasement of Islamic hegemony would be a strategic blunder that a country like Australia might never recover from.

So right Speller and let no one forget that most of Australia's closest neighbours have populations consisting of more than a few Islamofascists. Add communist China to the mix and the neighbour could get very turbulent.

You bet I'ma Cut and Runner. Your killing me Larry!!
I have a real problem with this Religo freak "Eye for an Eye" stuff.

Howard is a Warmonger and 75% of Australians want him out and our Troops out of Iraq.
Alain, have you checked for Communists under your bed?

Speller, nice cut and paste - from Faux News Channel??

Er, John, you see Australia from a 1950's perspective then. You have never been there have you.

Are all of you Canadians or Yanks?

>"Speller, nice cut and paste - from Faux News Channel??"

Nope. 100% original.
When I do cut and paste you'll know it.
I always attribute.

Personally I'm an Albertan, but sometimes I answer to being Canadian.
I do have American kin.

And you? Are you the descendant of Irish criminals or did you get the cut and run part all by yourself?

Posted by: Speller | 2007-10-25 12:17:13 PM

That's right AB, you just cut and run. Only wonder how far you can run until you lose your head to the Islamists. I know for a fact that you already have a sizeable population of them in your cities.

For the record I am Canadian.

Don't count Howard out just yet.

Decendent of Irish Criminals?

England transported Criminals to the Colony. Not sure where your Irish link comes from.
But from reading most of the ignorance on this page, you probably went to school in North America.

I am a proud Australian.

Didn't realise that there was such a large Underbelly of Ingnorance in Canada.

JP, if you've never picked, scratched or whatever then poked your finger in your gob, you're lying.
Like blokes that say they don't wank - they're full of it.

I spent my childhood and teen years picking my nose and wanking.

AB: You just ruined my good impression of Aussies! I thought you were a rugged lot. It appears that you have your share of pantwaist liberals just like the rest of us!
