Free Myanmar
Buddhist Monks stage Myanmar's largest protests against the military rulers Fox News reports:
"Their defiant activities have given new life to a protest movement that began a month ago after the government raised fuel prices."
This can be a good lesson for all freedom loving people of the oppressed countries. I hope the people of Myanmar (Burma) get what they want. Every one deserves to be free and prosperous.

I did two six week stints flying for Okanagan Helicopters in what was then Burma in 1975 and 1976. Okanagan was hired by a Japanese oil drilling company to support offshore drilling rigs. I characterized the regime at that time as a military socialist dictatorship. Everything was under strict government control including the press and all commerce. The population was held in poverty and only government stores were legal. The result was a thriving black market. Ex pats were limited to a strict limit of time working in the country and had to account for all consumer items such as cameras, radios etc. as you were not allowed to give or sell them to the Burmese people. Any cars in the country, except those brought in by companies such as the drilling company, seemed to be of 1950s vintage kept running by ingenious home made repairs. The Burmese people seemed to be well educated and mostly spoke English well. The town where our operation was based was Kyaupu, on the west coast relatively near the Bangledesh border. There was a large influx of Bengalis whose own country was in worse shpe than Burma. Racial strife occasionally arose between the local population and these immigrants who seemed to be more entrepenurial and pushy which does not seem to the natural inclination of the Burmese. We made friends with a few of the people and I have alwats felt sorry for them being held under the thrall of the ruthless military dictatorship.
