Say one thing, do another

How serious are Canadians when it comes to reducing their ecological footprint? Judging by the traffic at Canadian airports last month, not very.

StatsCan reports today that take-offs and landings increased a whopping 9.2% in July compared to the same month last year. That's a lot of extra carbon emissions from citizens of a country where global warming is supposedly such a pressing issue.

Although I personally know one retired biology teacher who, before flying to Borneo earlier this year, paid an outfit $70 for some carbon offsets, I sincerely doubt that any more than a handful of Canadians are doing likewise.

A conclusion: Canadians pay lip service to the great green god when the pollster calls, but are not willing to change their personal habits to solve a problem that is still theoretical.

Are you kidding??? Most Canadians are onto this scam & hoax of Globull Warming. They are just intimidated by the PC crowd to say so out loud, but
their actions - as reported above - prove what they truly believe.

As for me, I'll be leaving next week on another road trip in order to enlarge my personal carbon footprint even more.

Don't think so, since the "commercialization" of our
famed National Airport System, a model for the international aviation sector for decades, aircraft
movements are not recorded either by the mostly incomptent airports management across Canada. Transport Canada kept excellent and accurate aircraft movement records one could depend on for many decades - StatsCan was heavily politicized by the Liberals which is even worse then the National Gun Registry -professionals either ignore StatsCan
or disregard their nonsense. The Liberal induced
National AirPort System is a disgrace. Eventually major airports in Toronto, Vancouver will have
a series of high profile and fatal commeriacl carrier in flight accidents. Today the Halifax Internatioanl Airport is called the Stanfield Underwear International by a host of professional airman and cynics. We call Toronto, Toronto International, who is this Lester (the Lisper) Pearson? -why would anybody name the largest commercial airport in Canada after Lester Bowles
Pearson for God's sake.Macleod

O'Neill is right. The tax to discourage this behaviour needs to be mandatory.

have worked in internet revenue producing companies so I am very familiar with collecting the money. Seeing how many fools were willing to donate their money to offset their conscience or be a hot topic at the next garden party I tried to open a carbon offset brokerage (this is a multi billion dollar "business"). Anyone can do this and verification is near impossible. What stopped me was my research which turned up Al Gore and Dr.Suzuki as the key players as sellers an authorizers in the market. Also our own Canadian Mo Strong helped to create and is still deeply involved with the Chicago Carbon Exchange ( biggest in the world). He seems to have recovered nicely from his UN Oil for Food project { I can't remember cashing that personal cheque for one million dollars with his endorsement on the back, which went to the now bankrupt energy company partially owned by Paul Martin.). As a footnote: all of Sadam's financial transactions went through a bank in Paris owned by a certain Quebec holding company. This could still be Mo's greatest scam ever, unless the Man Made Global Warming hoax falls apart faster than anticipated. To the point finally: anyone can set up the Moose Jaw Carbon Exchange, complete with stock photos of wind turbines, micro hydro projects, and rain forests, sell rubes carbon credits for cash, e-mail a bogus certificate of feel good to the sucker and be legally untouchable. Thanks Mo, the Goracle must owe you big time, unless you got yours up front.

With a name like Mo, you can be sure he didn't get it "up front". :)

Be a "thinker", boast your ratings, eh OBC.

The only thing that keeps you alive is the CRTC requirement for "canadian" content.

"A conclusion: Canadians pay lip service to the great green god when the pollster calls, but are not willing to change their personal habits to solve a problem that is still theoretical."

And thank heavens for that. Canadians are happy to play the role of green suckers, but in reality we are all piggy and we like it that way.

Let keep living our lives the way we want to and to hell with the phony "end is near" gang. Spend your money of air travel, car travel, motor boats, cigars and tossing your scotch glass into the roaring fireplace.

Who the hell wants to live like a caveman anyway.

It's easy to support climate change prevention, but it's much harder to get someone to pay for it. Classic NIMBY.

marilyn would have YOU pay for it, Zeb - and plenty of others. Not himself, of course. Dippers steal from charity bingo games and walk off with expensive rings from jewelry stores instead.

obc: I wonder if they realize that a global problem requires the participation of everyone, not just a select group. Their rhetoric just doesn't match their true goals - extract money from Alberta to spare their main voting base in Ontario. Pathetic.

. . . and exempt the world's biggest polluter - their buddies in communist China!

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-16 8:15:06 PM

Yup, no doubt about it. Kyoto was the largest scam ever attempted in the history of crime.

The 'science' behind global warming is also suspect.

How did they ever expect we ordinary folk to take global warming seriously when their solution was so clearly fraudulent? Our first indication was the sale of the Green Party to the Liberals in 2006. Now they are firmly under the control of the corporations. They must never be taken seriously ever again.

If people want to implement methods to reduce their carbon emissions, they are perfectly free to do so. But it is a crime to expect the taxpayer to fund it all. The financial expectations of Kyoto are simply far in excess of what the taxpayer can afford. Moreover, it places other social services like socialized medicine and education at risk. It is fair to say that the NDP's claim to be the defender of medicare is at an end.

Thank goodness that Mr. Harper saw Kyoto for what it was - a scam, a Ponzi scheme, grand larceny, etc.

No wonder more people are becoming environmental skeptics!

"Aussie 'missing link' ocean current found"

al-Reuters

Australian scientists have discovered a giant underwater current that is one of the last missing links of a system that connects the world's oceans and helps govern global climate. New research shows that a current sweeping past Australia's southern island of Tasmania toward the South Atlantic is a previously undetected part of the world climate system's engine-room, said scientist Ken Ridgway.

Wait a minute there. They were making climate predictions to a tenth of a degree without knowing about at least one major ocean current? How is that possible? (sarcasm)

I think by now the coffin of this great global warming hoax has been nailed shut, buried, covered in concrete, and had a large subdivision built over top of it by now.

Carbon offsets are the indulgences of the 21st century. Gore is Tetzel.

Maybe I am selfish but I do not really care about the environment. As long as it does not effect my water quality. In my old age maybe I will think about the future generation but this is what my opinion is now. Secondly, Canada was not ready for the Kyoto Accord. The Government just signed it for points among the International Community.

There seems to be no end to Mo Strong's Skim-Scams.
He's one of those slimes who can slither through crap and come out clean, largely ignored by the MSM which is telling in itself.

This is one Dud who is long overdue for answers.

They salivate at the prospect of someone like Conrad Black doing time and ignore someone like Strong.

I was at YEG yesterday to pick up my brother [another take off and landing, by the way] and had some time to kill and looked at the current Newsweek. That mag gets thinner and thinner every year! Anyway, the cover story is "Global Warming is a Hoax!" The header is then asterisked, and below it says [I paraphrashe] "according to a world wide cabal of ne'er-do-wells, backed by big oil [etc. etc.].

Then the article went on to use pictures of old, sick people languishing in great discomfort some where, and stock footage, using the argument that "it is really hot" as proof of global warming.

No amount of scientific evidence would possibly make the slightest difference. If you don't believe in GW, you are branded a "knuckle dragger" and a "red neck" by the correctly thinking set. As a matter of fact, one of the mayors of a maritime city [was it Moncton] came out about two weeks ago saying that he thought it was all a pile of b.s. and some woman from one of the green groups publically castigated him, calling him "a knuckle dragger".

Attention all logical thinkers!

Here is an exercise that I am going to do and I challenge everyone including realists and naivists alike to undertake this research,

1. Is there any information that says that the temperature on the moon and on mars is increasing?

2. Has anyone created an artificial atmosphere in a chamber with elevated levels of CO2 and shone a light on it with the same radiation spectrum as the sun to see what the effect is on temperature.

Two simple questions that should have simple answers.

I dare each and every single leftist here, to put their money where their mouths are.

When each and every single leftist here, has their environmental footprint down to where they say everyone ought to be, and not where they think they are, then their examples might be worth following.

Until then, I will not be inspired by so called environmentalists, who have much higher environmental footprints than I do. I am constantly reminded by dreadlock dope smoking old car drivers, that talking green sounds cool, even if they really do not mean a word they say.

Leftists talk the peace ideas, but could not get anyone to peace, if their lives depended on it.

Posted by: Lady | 2007-08-17 10:48:37 AM

Epsilon,

The moon has no atmosphere so it is difficult to measure variance, plus it only has one side facing the sun at all times. Did you not know these things?

There is evidence that Mars and other planets of moons of planets are warming at this time, but not much. I do not possess that evidence myself, but I have read about it from many sources.

Everyone I know has created an artificial atmosphere in a chamber with elevated levels of CO2 and shone a light on it with the same radiation spectrum as the sun to see what the effect is on temperature.

It's a right of passage have you done yours yet?

Good points Lady,

My own Carbon print is quite small, but life-style and economic choice not by fear of guilt. I don't care how others live, but I do mind, like you, those who preach and do nothing themselves.

The Left is a contradiction, and hypocrisy. An idealist fool hardy lot who can only diminish the human spirit with their ideas. They have proved that many times and in many places.

All the great innovations, inventions, creations and knowledge came exclusively from societies that allowed the individual freedom. Ancient Greece and the USA to name two in different time periods.

Collectivist societies have done nothing but impoverish their populations and destroy their ability to think and express feely. Russia, Cuba, China and now Islam.

I hear this horror echoed in the statement

"The debate is over"

Epsi,

Sorry I don't have what you are looking for.

Posted by: John | 2007-08-17 11:06:41 AM

Epsi:

NASA itself has posted observations that the surface of Mars is warming at a rate four times faster than the earth's.

That was before the latest data which showed the earth is not warming as fast as Chicken and his Littles would have us believe.

Latest stats about the earth indicate a warming of 0.1 degrees per decade, down from the previous 0.4 degrees per decade.

Science is a wonderful thing because it allows scrutiny to verify all sorts of claims before settling on a fact.

The Cult of the Goracle, if not dead already, definitely has one foot in the grave ... one of the most short-lived cults in the history of mankind.

If anybody questions that statement, just confuse them with the facts.

And these are just a few of the MANY studies that are showing global warming on the other planets.

Let us know the results of your study.

To do it, you will need a vaccuum around your isolated atmosphere--keeping light sources and plants and water the same. The vaccuum is necessary in order to control the effects of heat from the surrounding atmosphere/lab. And you will have to keep everything constant, and simply change one variable at a time--such as C02, or water, or light source, and monitor temperature changes.

Have fun.

And what country are the Greenie Leftoids enamoured with? Why, the world's number one polluter - China! So here's some news from Beijing that should buoy their bleeding hearts:

"Chinese cyber-dissident jailed for four years"

A Chinese rights activist has been sentenced to four years in jail for subversion after posting politically sensitive essays on the Internet, his lawyer said Friday.

A court in China's eastern province of Zhejiang on Thursday convicted Chen Shuqing of inciting subversion, lawyer Li Jianqiang said, emphasising that his client had always maintained his innocence.

"We think the sentence is totally unreasonable. He was only expressing his opinion and that is within his rights under the constitution," Li told AFP.

Chen, 43, was arrested in September last year and has been detained ever since.

No one at the court in Hangzhou city was available to comment.

Chen wrote many articles critical of the Chinese government on overseas websites, including essays that advocated democracy and constitutional rule, Li said.

Li, who has defended many press freedom cases, has also come under the scrutiny of authorities and was notified in June that his licence has been suspended for at least one year.

He said he suspected he was disbarred for taking on too many politically sensitive cases.

Paris-based press freedom rights group Reporters Without Borders said it was "appalled" by Chen's punishment.

"Courts taking their orders from the Communist Party continue to crack down on cyber-dissidents," the organisation said in a statement.

"We reiterate our appeal for the release of Chen and the other 50 cyber-dissidents and Internet users held in China."

Despite China's pledge to ease control over the media ahead of the 2008 Olympics, human and media rights groups say its leaders continue to tighten their crackdown on dissent amid increasing social unrest.

Reporters Without Borders said in a report last week that at least 30 journalists, as well the 50 Internet users, were currently detained in China, some of them since the 1980s.

The watchdog ranks China 163rd out of 167 countries on its global press freedom index.

"Chen wrote essays that advocated democracy and constitutional rule."

The divide between what people say and what they do is not typically Canadian; it is found throughout our modern world. Some call it conspicuous compassion in that this kind of mentality wants to be seen or believed to be "doing good" rather than actually doing. One good example are the various performers who hold "fund-raising" concerts for the benefit of whatever. Yet in spite of all their abundant wealth and means, they contribute virtually nothing to the same cause. We now have so many "saying the right thing" in order to feel good and to be perceived as "progressive".

Jack: I fly 76's for AC Don't know where you are getting your info from but you are clearly wrong. I was flying two years ago. Upon deplaning, the stewardesses were thanking us for flying with that airline.

As I was about to pass them, the Captain exited the cockpit. We happened to make eye-contact, so I said to him:

"Thanks for flying with us, Sir."

Alain, you are on to something analogous to the Canadian situation. According to Jack Granatstein in his book, "Whose War is it?", our government has often made the mistake of placing our "values" ahead of national interests. In doing so we do not serve our citizens or our country- especially when those "values" are contrived.
