Canada's Mission in Afghanistan

I've been trying to allocate one post, at least, per week on the Canadian mission in Afghanistan and show gratitude to the troops serving overseas. They're actually trying to protect Canada's national interests and help Afghanis live a better and secure life. It's important to let them know they have our full support, regardless of our political affiliation.

Vandoos take over in Afghanistan while some of the servicemen expressed their disappointment over the anti-war sentiment of some in Quebec:

Shocking... And this is one of the many reasons that the rest of us must show overwhelming support and gratitude to the troops serving in Afghanistan. Let them know they have our support by writing a nice message. It's the least you could do, so plz do it!

That is a nice move. People in Québec are out of touch with reality just like they were in 1939. We need to keep going back to 1939 so history can teach us lessons.

Right, Quebec needs to be reminded they're living in a free Democracy because brave countrymen fought and died for it and them. Not to forget many Quebecers did go to war, fought and died.
As in the second World War, many Quebecers were against fighting for our very survival,so too are they against going to Afghanistan to preserve what we believe in. We have to keep drumming the consequences of not going to battle for our security and safety, this time fighting an entirely different evil.

We know the usual Leftist element who are the Zombies in this case as well.

Every time we see the likes of Duceppes and Layton
popping up to the microphones to spew stupidity we can only hope the soldiers are not listening or simply consider the source and ignore them.

The sleazy Toronto and Ottawa Media have been focused on destroying the political career of General O'Connor, who it is reported on CTV will
be dismissed by Harper, the Troops have high regard for the General as Defence Minister, as well
as General Hillier CDS, both of whom served in the
same Command in the Canadian Army and are long established friends and associates - if readers want to support the troops in the 'Ghan, write PM Harper and attempt to change his mind - dismissing a fine Soldier like O'Connor based on bullshit from Canadian Media which is owned by the Liberal Party and Socialist Horde, shows a lack of political courage and lack of loyality to the Conservative Party and his Caucus. He should adopt
Trudeau's method of dealing with the Media -who were scared shitless of him - Macleod

Jack:

Does is really matter how much the MSM savages anybody?

You give them way too much credibility.

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-05 10:34:22 AM

If Harper is going to be swayed by hacks in the media and jealous boots In the LIBERAL establishment, he's not as smart as I thought.

No, O'Connor is not a slick politician and not quick with snap questions by smart-ass media hounds but he has served this country over 30 years in the Military. If he doesn't know about military matters there sure as hell is no one else in the Conservative Caucus to come close.
He is the most qualified Defence Minister we've ever had.

Yes PLEASE do try to sway Harper from making this mistake, if he doesn't listen, he and we are the losers. The Media and Lefty carpers are the winners.

"Quebec needs to be reminded they're living in a free Democracy"

No, but you do. Quebec have every rights under a democratie like the one in Canada to express their vues about the aspects of the Afghan mission.

"As in the second World War, many Quebecers were against fighting for our very survival"

No, they were against go dying for the sake of the British Empire. In Canada, It's when we refuse to go fight for the Brits that our survival is in danger...

"Every time we see the likes of Duceppes popping up to the microphones to spew stupidity we can only hope the soldiers are not listening..."

Stupidity like what Liz-no-G...?

*

"They're actually trying to protect Canada's national interests"

Would you please explain further more about that last one Winston ?

Posted by: Marc | 2007-08-05 10:39:31 AM

Further, if a Prime Minister is swayed by polls and media hacks, he's not a sure footed, confident person and not the man for the job.
If he's the person we thought we had in the job of PM he should come out swinging, keep O'Connor in the Defence Portfolio and tell the rat's asses to take a hike.

Posted by: LizJ | 2007-08-05 10:42:05 AM

Right on Liz! Keep O'Connor in Defence! PLEASE....

Posted by: munroe | 2007-08-05 11:02:52 AM

Liz:

I agree that it would be a wise move to keep O'Connor on as defence minister.

It is up to the prime minister to appoint his cabinet, not the critics.

Marc: Get stuffed. Your talking incoherent nonsense.

If it weren't for the actions of the Brits and our allies you'd not have much to ponder including complain about the rest of this great Country or whether or not you want to be part of it OR have your own Fiefdom called Quebec.

It's tough for people like you Marc, you can't see clearly past Quebec borders, can't see that you survived as a Culture within this Country, part of the British Empire you so despise.

Looking at the behavior and politics of Quebec over the history of our Country, it's not hard to see why we have wars in less stable lands.

Posted by: LizJ | 2007-08-05 11:08:50 AM

Marc,

You apparently were not taught about the threat of Hitler during the second world war. It was France who sucked up to him and become a country of minions. Fortunately there were some French men and women who knew better and resisted. They along with the allies saved France.

I can understand why you shy away from war, the French have never won one. I guess after awhile you just find it more expedient to surrender right at the start.

Here is the scoop: Poor Afghanistan gets invaded by Taliban and Alkaida. Bin Laden uses that country to train Jihadists to attack the West. French people are part of the west no matter how much many of us wish they weren't.

To protect ourselves from another 9-11 or worse, we go there as part of NATO and clean house. No further attacks on North America since.

There is a spin off as well ... Afghani women are no longer being summarily executed for trivialities such as baring an ankle or leaving their hovel unescorted. Young girls are no longer forbidden from learning to read and write. They are also now allowed to actually show their faces in public. Mostly the many widows with children are not allowed to actually work so they don't starve to death.

If for no other reason, we should all be willing to fight this war to free the women who are nothing but inconsequential slaves in that horrid place. Or don't you think women deserve to be safe and free?

Our troops are going there to kill monsters not people. The more they kill and the faster they kill them, the sooner they can come home and the more likely Afghanistan will become a viable and prosperous country. Do you not think they deserve this opportunity?

It is win win for all if we succeed not only in Afghanistan but if our allies succeed in Iraq as well.

We are in a long term war for our very survival. If you don't understand this, you are either terribly misinformed, uninformed or really really dumb.

Posted by: John | 2007-08-05 11:27:12 AM

Sorry that should read ...

"Mostly, the many widows with children are now allowed to actually work so they don't starve to death."

Posted by: John | 2007-08-05 11:30:10 AM

John, we're in Afghanistan to "kill monsters"? Like the 350 civilian "monsters" who have been "collateral damage" in the past short while. Here I thought we were on a reconstruction mission that required security, therefore combat?

I did my thing. I wrote Steve and said "keep O'Connor". While I was at it, I ask him to bring back Ambrose to Environment.

Posted by: munroe | 2007-08-05 11:36:21 AM

John:

Canadians should be proud of the work our troops are doing in Afghanistan.

By any measure, the life of the average Afghani has improved dramatically over the past half-dozen years.

These vermin hide themselves among the civilian population and care little as to whether the human shields die in a counterattack.

It's too bad they will not come out and fight like men, out in the open and leave the innocent civilian populations alone to improve their lives with the help of our courageous Canadian troops.

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-05 11:39:46 AM

That is their m.o. When civilians are killed due to their tactics of fighting - using them as human shields, the Leftoids can then blame us for the death of "innocents". That way, pressure is applied on the good guys to leave, and allow the vermin to come to power.

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-05 11:44:06 AM

obc:

Yet there are some with limited wisdom who believe it is the peacekeepers who cause the death of innocents.

Iraq, for example, was a dispute between the United Nations and Saddam Hussein.

What business is it, therefore, of al Quaeda to be involved in this dispute.

BTW. BBC reports today that a high-ranking al Quaeda commander, the one reponsible for bombing the mosque in Sumarra, has been killed.

Afghtanistan is going well thanks to the courage of our Canadian troops.

obc:

Using human sheilds is part of the jihadist/Muhammedan operations manual.

The tactic has been documented in the Palestinian refugee camps, during the recent Syrian proxy Hizb'allah in Lebanon and is now being used in Iraq.

The United Nations had no dispute with al Quaida in Iraq. The invasion's aim was to remove Saddam.

The suffering of the Iraqi people lies directly at the feet of Al Quaida, which entered a conflicted area, seeing it as an opportunity to divide-and-conquer the Sunni and Shi'ite populations.

Apparently, the long-suffering Iraqis have now recognized that the foreign invaders causing the most turmoil are Al Quaida and are actively mobilizing against them.

I am going to be realistic with your guys/gals, Canada, USA, Britian, and the rest of coalition troops are going to realize that they are fighting a war that cannot be won. History is going to repeat itself. Did USSR defeat the radicalists in 1979? For those of you who want to be more informed about this War read this article by John Hovard: http://tinyurl.com/2bhdcf

Edmontonian,

The Russians had very different goals in Afghanistan. The Soviet Union enslaved people, they would have enslaved the Afghanis.

The Soviet Union was called an Evil Empire by Ronald Reagan and he had that right.

The West is offering Afghanis freedom and prosperity, not the slavery of Communism. You should know that.

Posted by: John | 2007-08-05 12:41:15 PM

It is doubtful that PM Harper and the new Conservative Government will in actual fact dismiss General O'Connor, thus ensuring that Canadian Soldiers who are serving their Country with NATO Forces in Afghanistan are provided with additional support in the PMO and the Federal Caucus. Harper is highly rated by the Troops, many of whom returned to NB this week. Harper must treat Canadian Media for the scum they are - most would run and hide at the sight and sound of real gunfire in any event. Munroe keeps popping out of his hole next to the cesspool from time to time for reasons best known to him -his messages are somewhat obscure. Jeez so he says he reads the Manchester Guardian -now that's impressive. The Generals referred to are British serving soldiers who may soon find themselves trying to explain away, thirty eight years in Afghanistan to British politicians who who ain't gonna send British soldiers anywhere including Scotland and Canada for "38 years" The Guardian is owned by Irish businessmen who like to needle the Brits in their rapidly expanding media - they might consider buying Canadian newspapers if they could get hold of the Red Star. "The West is offering Afghanis freedom and prosperity, not the slavery of Communism. You should know that."

Leftoids DO know that, but they are in favour of commie enslavement. That's why they are still in mourning after the demise of the Soviet Union - the REAL imperialists of modern times, not the Americans - as they love to shriek.

The Soviet Union were concerned with the rise of Muslim nationalism in Afghanistan which was more or less a Soviet Colony like several Eastern European countries post World War II, they also wanted control of Afghanistan's natural resources, but the Afghans motivated by Muslim radicals from Pakistan
created an insurgent military style force to fight the Soviet 4oth Army, which had not ever fought in
any military engagements and were led by Soviet officers who in many cases were veterans of World War II, but were trained to fight in Central Europe against NATO using the familier Soviet steamroller tactics of World War II. The Soviet
Union ignored the lessons of Viet Nam. I actually talked with veteran Russian Helicopter Pilots from the 40th Army in Cuba over several glasses of excellent Havana Club rum - the US made an enormous error in supplying the Insurgents with sophisticated Ground to Air Missiles, many of which the Taliban are using against NATO troops
and Helicopters in Afghanistan today. The Russian aircrew based in Cuba were looking for work flying UN Helicopters (leased by CHC Saint John NF) then operating in Bosnia etc. MacLeod

Perhaps Jack you prefer the International Herald Tribune. The British say they even now are "over-stretched". There are other articles on how the divisions between ISAF and the American OEF are causing significant problems.

Its just like 'Nam; the war was going very well - until the last helicopter had to leave....

Canadian politicians these days are afraid of the Media because of their instant access to the great Canadian unwashed, and their unabashed use of professional liars and con men like Pufffster Duffy and Craig (I know I look like my horse) Oliver, and
Taber who gave up her day job at Burger King recently. I always admired PM Trudeau's "in your face style" with the Ottawa and Toronto Media, known to real Liberals operators in those days as "The Whores On The Hill" Puffy Duffy has been lobbying for a Senate Seat for years, maybe there is hope with Citoyen Dion. French Citizen who ran away from his mandatory military service in France to teach "political science" at the U of Moncton
whose Acadian students were campaigning against the son of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau recently, and they are all "Liberals",
but the media hacks and fellow travellers are expendable, once they no longer serve Bell CTV Media and their partners most will be replaced by equally bad nasties from Ryerson and U of Ottawa,
only a few real "Journalists" in Canada - No body in the real world pays any attention to the Herald Tribune which is used by the homeless in Paris to protect them from the cold and rain - MacLeod

"Explosive Making Materials Found, Suspects Named"

Goose Creek, South Carolina - Two men are being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center after police find explosive making devices in their car. The men 21-year-old Yousef Megahed and 24-year-old Ahmed Mohamed were pulled over Saturday evening during a routine traffic stop near Myers Road and Highway 176. Among the explosive devices found were igniters and fusers. Few details about the suspects are known at this time. They are believed to be students at a Florida college. They are of Middle Eastern descent and are not US citizens. Neither man has been charged, but charges are expected Monday. A press conference will be held at the Berkeley County Sheriff's office Monday at 11:30 in the morning. Among the potential charges is possession of unlawful explosives. Officials are not at this time releasing any additional information on the number of charges or types of explosive devices they found. Highway 176 in Goose Creek was shut down and has since reopened.

But DemoRats don't want "profiling" for these terrorists! That awful George W. Bush is limiting freedoms for your average American citizen.

As predicted in the Shotgun months ago, the big US dailies are bleeding, we first became aware when we were working on a project on the Liverpool Airport at Greenfield NS which was built by the community to service NY Times Personnel NY, which owns the big Bowaters Paper Mill in Brooklyn NS -we determined then that production cuts of newsprint which the Mill has produced for some eighty years was due to marketing problems in the US by the Times, which they later confirmed. It appears that disposing of some one hundred pages of a newspaper published daily is very difficult in NY and NYC, this now has extended to most big US Dailies which in turn has drastically cut news print production in N.B. and Quebec. Of course it is the Internet. SYF brought up a good point about "the power of the media" even more today with the Net and Blogs
-Blogs will determine the choice of Democratic candidate for President in my opinion. In the days when one had to wait 24 to 48 hours for a Newspaper which one was compelled to read to form a political opinion, the logistics of politics was much slower. The Leftoids have a problem with civilian deaths in war only when the US and the West are involved. They remained silent when the commies killed 125 million innocents this past century, however.

The brain dead Lefties ignore the fact the cowardly terrorists hide among women and children and put them in harms way to rack up the most sympathy from the carnage possible.
Dopes like Layton and past her best before date McDonough in this country are so bloody stupid as to fall for this tactic, to the point of surrender. Their rallying cry, bring our soldiers home, they're killing innocent people.
It is to weep.

We know of cases where the cowardly "men" have hidden under burkas. In the mind of a Lefty, they're just poor misguided souls who need a hug.

The Muslims have killed many thousands of innocents in it's insane quest for world domination. They have proved to be the most uncaring uncivilized enemy ever know in modern times.

Three thousand in the twin towers, many thousands all over the world in places like Shr Lanka, Thailand, Africa to name only three of dozens.

These are monsters who will strap C4 to their very own children and send them out with glee to die killing the infidel.

These are truly monsters and if many many many of them are killed in the crossfire, it is only because their most violent insane members use innocents as a shield. I cannot fathom a Christian or a Jew or even an Atheist being so evil and cowardly.

Those of us who see the Islamos for what they are and want to fight or support those who do are 'the Good'.

The Islamos themselves are 'the Bad'.

Those in the West on our Left who don't understand this and enable our evil enemies are 'the UGLY'.
