An interesting piece by Walid Phares lays out some idealistic alternatives to the recent Mideast arms deal:

This thread has been invaded already. Is the sun setting on this thread?

Who is the invader?

Posted by: Rémi Houle | 2007-08-09 4:45:01 PM

Walid Phares calls for Saudi Arabia to stand up to Iran, instead of the West having to police the entire Middle East. Good for him! I believe it's in our interest to foment conflict between Sunnis and Shias throughout the Muslim world. It will keep the savages busy slaughtering each other rather than us.

Posted by: JP | 2007-08-09 4:49:49 PM

That's why the US supported Saddam in his 10-year war against Iran. Just like we allied ourselves with the killer Stalin against Hitler.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-09 4:54:12 PM

The author of the article Dr Walid Phares is senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies. The FDD claims to produce independent analysis of global terrorist threats and is non partisan. Read the following article and judge for yourself just how independent and non partisan the FDD really is.

Posted by: St Albion Parish News | 2007-08-09 4:59:22 PM

Its definitely partisan. Does that make Walid Phares' action suggestion less worthwhile. If propaganda can impel the opposition in Iran to become more effective and to bring a more democratic regime to power and do it without involving the use of military force, how can that be a bad thing?

Posted by: DML | 2007-08-09 5:09:32 PM

Hey, that's what Al Gore says about global warming.

What's a little embellisment and overstatement among friends?

Plenty of fun and it gets the people scurrying about in self-doubt.

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-09 5:12:07 PM

USA should heve found a way to prevent Japan from signing the axis protocol with Hitler. It was not in the interest of Japan to enter a war against USA. There was a very faulty diplomacy on the US side.

As we can see it was a mistake to be allied with Hussein.

Before WWII, USA, France and UK had all the time to conclude a true alliance together and bring down Hitler.

I think providing high tech arms to Saudi Arabia is suicidal. You don't know when people there will overthrow the actual regime and become a fanatic muslim country.

Posted by: Rémi Houle | 2007-08-09 5:13:42 PM

'You don't know when people there will overthrow the actual regime and become a fanatic muslim country.'

...true, but they would have done it by now, Saudi's have a lot of US equipment there now.

Posted by: tomax7 | 2007-08-09 5:21:04 PM

Saudi Arabia is already a fanatic muslim country. It exports the vile version of Islamic Dogma known as wahabism through out the world in cluding Canada, The 911 murderers were all saudi nationals.

Posted by: nick | 2007-08-09 5:34:21 PM

15 out of the 19 were Saudis - but point taken.

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-09 5:40:18 PM

More Iran; more Winston. Winston, forget spreading hate in Canada and suggesting YOUR problems should take precedent over Canadian issues.

If you have problems back home - go and deal with them. You are both boring and irrelevant otherwise.

Posted by: munroe | 2007-08-09 6:12:12 PM

As was mentioned earlier in this post there was another country who thought the 'sun had set on America' and had their asses handed to them.

Well at least ROGER fixed his caps lock problem. Now if he could just climb over the giant wall of islamic hatred and bigotry towards the US he/his local imam has built we can all go celebrate together with a big bag of porkrines.

I agree with JP, arm the region to the teeth and let the savages have at it.

marilyn ought to start his own blog if he is unhappy with the topic selection. Ah, but that would take initiative and effort - something Dippers & union thugs are not noted for.

And in other news:

"North African Muslim nation criminalises slavery"
Agence France-Presse

Nouakchott - Mauritania's national assembly has adopted a law criminalising slavery for the first time. The practice has persisted in certain parts of the north African country despite its official abolition in 1981. Under the new law, voted unanimously, people convicted of acts of slavery will risk between five and 10 years in prison. No official statistics exist on the number of people reduced to slavery in the Islamic republic.

The law will exist - enforcement, hah! Now tell us about all the slavery that still exists in various other Islamic nations of the world.

ML, someone has to stand up to these Iranian exiles like Winston. Don't see OBC and others showing anything but appeasement.

Posted by: munroe | 2007-08-09 6:33:41 PM

Roger, they probably missed the news item. The Americans "lost" 190,000 pieces in Iraq.

Posted by: munroe | 2007-08-09 6:35:37 PM

The idea of a broadcast aimed into Iran, in all the major languages is a great one.

The Voice of America really did have an impact on Russia and the eventual fall of communism.

The war of ideas is working, and that was a great one. I hope there is some follow thru.

I also hope that the people who do the programming are able to insert some fun and satire too.

I've noticed that people are more likely to listen to new ideas when they come with a touch of humour that pokes fun at the stupidity of the status quo.

Posted by: canadian freedoms fan | 2007-08-09 6:36:40 PM

That's why we post here, cff. To laugh at marilyn and his ilk.

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-09 6:40:48 PM

CFF, why would the Iranians not block the signal? Mind you, with Al-Jazeera blocked here and in the States, there could be no finger-pointing.

Posted by: munroe | 2007-08-09 6:42:55 PM

umm blocking that signal didn't work so well for the USSR, things have a way of getting thru.

And as any mother knows, if you REALLY want your kids to read a book, explain that it is banned, and that you don't want them to read it.

Works like a charm!

Oh and the internet. That was the final nail in the coffin of the USSR's totalitarian grip on the minds of it's populace.

Al Jazeera is available in the US on DBS, and the CRTC actually licenced it for broadcast in Canada but put so many restrictions on those who carry it it wasn't worth the effort to do so.

C'mon angry Roger:

Everybody knows only Muhammad was allowed to eat pork.

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-09 7:04:17 PM

Sorry angry Roger:

I was mistaken.

Muhammad did not allow anybody to eat pork because he was against cannibalism.

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-09 7:07:36 PM

Good one, set! LOL!

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-09 7:09:20 PM

Sorry folks, I posted my comments in the wrong spot. Here it is

In his latest editorial “A Bridge to Moderate Islam is Indeed a Road to Hell”, Amil Imani writes: “‘Islam is a religion of peace and the great majority of Muslims are not party to any plans and actions of the radicals’- so claim academic pundits, leftist journalists, and hired Islamic apologists. The incantation of these “authorities” is the lullaby that puts the people into a sleep of complacency.

(...) When Martin Luther nailed his list of 95 grievances to the door of the Wittenberg Church, he was scripturally correct. In fact, the Catholic Church had gone so far as to make it illegal to print the Bible in any language other than the dead Latin (used as a code language by the church, since only Catholic-trained men were taught the language). But church chicanery was anti-Christian according to the actual Bible. So from the perspective of scripture, the reformists were correct, and the Popes were divergent, and that is what led to the Reformation.

Contrast this with what the so-called reformists are trying to do with Islam...they are not looking into the Quran for answers...they are banning the book altogether lest people find out the evil that drips from its pages. The Quran is the last place Islamic moderators look for help in “reforming” Islam, because it would make al Qaida look like a poodle pet-owners convention. In fact, doesn’t it take great chutzpa to call a movement that seeks to eradicate the letter and intent of actual scripture “reformist”? Perhaps “retardation”or “revisionism”would be better terms.

Amini’s conclusion: We in the United States need to embark on a comprehensive legal, educational, and social campaign to eradicate the deadly plague of Islam. We need to immediately stop appeasing the Muslims and call Islam for what it really is. By effective action, we may even save those peaceful and self-styled moderate or secular Muslims from their own deluded affliction.

There is nothing that I would love more than witnessing all Muslims become ex-Muslims and full-fledged members of a diverse, tolerant and democratic society. I hope that Muslims themselves leave this Bedouin slaveholder cult. Yet, the hope is extremely slim. Islam has a stranglehold on its slaves and will neither let them go, nor do the Muslims seem to have the insight or the will to leave it in large numbers. But hope, as slim as it is, keeps me sounding the alarm before the fire of Islam engulfs us all.

Honour killings keep most of them in check, even if they think of leaving the cult of the pedophile.

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-09 7:14:20 PM

So-called moderate Muslims are turning to Christianity.

Glory be to God!

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-09 7:14:56 PM

Quick, get Ahmadinnerjacket on the phone, I don't recall anyone making monroe the guardian of the islamic republic of Iran. A place, I might add, a blog such as this would result in arrest/torture and death.

To defend the indefensible is a waste of time. I dare to suggest that someone from Iran would know better then any of us?

Or are you Iranian?

Posted by: missing link | 2007-08-09 7:22:37 PM

"An Alternative to Arms"

Ah! The Venus de Milo solution, propagated by socialists worldwide.

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-09 7:25:57 PM

Interesting thoughts, andre. When Amil Imani calls for a ban on Muslim immigration to the West, then I'll take him seriously. It's a matter of following his own convictions to their logical conclusion, which he can't bring himself to do. Until then, he's just one more Iranian exile who'd like nothing better than to flood our country with anti-Mullah Iranians. No thanks.

Posted by: JP | 2007-08-09 7:27:02 PM

Hey Comical Ali:

Who's the rightful heir to Mohammed?

You clowns haven't been able to figure that one out for 1400 years, so what credibility do you have in modern-day solutions?

What's that? There is no modern days?

It's still the seventh century?

OK then.

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-09 7:27:48 PM

Did you know the Iraqis were soundly trashing the Americans at the Baghdad Airport?

More idle boast from Comical Ali, who know that his dung-covered brothers will soon be defeated.

Posted by: set you free | 2007-08-09 7:38:30 PM

Another 1,000 years of non-achievemnt for Muslims. You'd think the first thousand would have taught them something, but when one is stupid, I guess there's little hope.

HEIL MOHAMMED - the pedophile - piss be on him forevermore.

Posted by: obc | 2007-08-09 7:40:31 PM

I know it’s on everyone’s mind but no one has asked it:

Is ROGER retarded, schizophrenic or what? The guy resembles a mental patient; jumping randomly from topic to topic, most of which are completely unrelated to the topic at hand. At first I thought this was funny, but now I am concerned that this wacko may be periodically selling his meds to the neighborhood kids for whatever and then looses it in an orgy of incomprehensible gobbley-gook on various blogs.

As for your point about the Shah, well so what. Your commie buddies were pulling the same crap around the world. It was the cold-war dingus and we won. Just like we will win over you islamic head-choppers.

It’s your society/religion that has made you a weak and simple people.

Easy pickings for Western domination.

Posted by: missing link | 2007-08-09 7:48:42 PM

You know the joke about the visitor to a mental hospital who saw a man with his hand tucked into the middle of his shirt? The visitor asked:

Who are you?

The mental patient said:

I'm Napoleon!

Who told you that?, asked the visitor.

God Himself!

A voice boomed out from the next room:

The only solution, as I'm sure you'll agree Ali/ROGER, is total separation between the Islamic world and the West. Muslim immigration must be stopped and all Muslims in the West must be deported, as per the great Iraqi Shi'ite writer Khudayr Taher.

In return, all Western troops, civilians, aid workers, etc. must leave the Muslim world. We certainly won't miss you people. Will you miss the West when you're back in your Third World Islamic homeland?

Posted by: JP | 2007-08-09 7:56:15 PM

Andre, keep on dreaming!
The Islamic giant has awakened and is slowly beginning to stretch and will soon be on the move!

I am not dreaming roger. People like Munroe are dreaming....

Posted by: andré | 2007-08-09 8:03:48 PM

I hate to, but I must agree with JP; we really do need to separate the savage forces of darkness from all that is good in the world, that being most of the west. I tried, but failed to identify anything at all which the mooslim world can offer me that I need. I don't need the oil, falafel sucks as does "cooscoos" (however it is spelled), they don't even have any decent booze to offer. Screw 'em.

Festung America/ Canada anyone? Let the pedo followers eat sand.

Posted by: Hoser | 2007-08-09 8:28:45 PM

Yeah pork-boy, culti-multuralism is great! Awesome! So awesome in fact I even see your young women in strip clubs in Toronto as they turn their backs on your cult, seeking home grown CANADIAN men. Ain't that grand? Cheap lap dances too.....

I say build a mosque on every corner. Then we build a peeler bar on one side, and an arcade on the other side; tempt their young with our decadent ways!

Posted by: Hoser | 2007-08-09 9:00:43 PM

....and a McDonalds across the street, selling those yummy pork sausage breakfast sandwiches. Or the ones with the dee-lish slice of ham. Your choice for $1.39.

Resistance is futile, your young shall be assimilated! Within a generation your holy book will be used by your young to support the corner of the broken sofa!

Posted by: Hoser | 2007-08-09 9:39:18 PM

.....the only way to protect your young will be to leave this awful godless place and return to a third world paradise such as Pakistan. At least there you can subjugate and beat your women and children into obedience!

Allah Akbar! Death to America!

Posted by: Hoser | 2007-08-09 9:42:22 PM

Posted by: Hoser | 2007-08-09 9:56:11 PM

It is a very complicated situation over there, with no simple solution.

Posted by: Edmontonian | 2007-08-09 9:56:51 PM

I declare Hoser the winner.

Angry Roger is just boasting and by any rules of civilized behaviour cannot unilaterally declare himself the winner in a debate he participates in.

That is for others to judge.
