Michael Crichton on Sense and Nonsense

Today there is far too much sensitivity within societies, and too little hard-nosed recognition of threats from without. We are inclined to be intolerant of speech by our friends and neighbors, and tolerant of beheadings, rape, and homophobia in distant lands.

This makes no sense.

From the Daily Ablution via Newmark's Door. It is from a very long interview that is very interesting and well worth reading.

just got back from some travels. its amazing after all these years that i still find so few countries that you can speak freely, or even tolerates diverse views. and i arive to the news of cdn war dead in afgani land. i grieve for the families, i have known war a number of times, and it seems its always the same few countries that step up to the plate to promote freedom in the world. just today australia announced it will send troops to help canada. same few countries. canadians can always count on the aussies. we have always supported each other in a number of wars. evil seems to be gaining, but as long as young men are available in canada and australia etc. hope remains

Excellent article by Michael Chrichton. One thing activists do not like to hear is that on the grand scale of things,Canada is a very small player.Tiny actually. If we all disappeared tomorrow, nothing would change as far as the climate is concerned. All the granola crunching tree huggers should think about this: We have 34 million people. China has 1.4 billion people that are striving for the same standard of living we have.India has over 1 billion people blah blah blah. Indonesia has over 600 million people blah blah blah. I could go on with this but it would get boring in a hurry. I repeat, we are 34 million in one of the coldest countries on the planet. Wake me up when the real players start to pay attention.

There is an old saying, that they have a difficult time swallowing a minow, --then eat a camel or whale -- something like that.

They are ever so empathetic to terrorists, as they hope to cow their way out of being the focus of hatred; while lacking intelligence and heart, when terrorists attack innocent people, who must live with defence forces at their schools, restaurants and malls, each and every single day.

Peterj

That is the crux of the biscuit ... Those ant hills of humanity are next in line for the car, van, TV, fridge etc. Do you think for one minute that at some point they are going to say "hey lets forget all this progressing to a high standard of living and be more the the idiots in Canada and save the ... er ... planet?" NOT!!!!

This is not about climate change this is about the idiot left hating western society.

Once China and India etc. have what we have ... the left will probably shift their hate to them.

It the envy toward anyone who achieves anything that those lazy hippies (hippies in the broad sense) can't achieve because they are lazy, lack math ability, don't get science and hate to work for anyone but the government where you don't actually have to do much work.

The Left is a sickness in our world and they are worse than Islam. At least Islam says they hate us and want to destroy us and then get busy about it.

The loony left only get off their asses when there is a good protest arranged followed by a party where they get whacked and pat themselves on the back for caring so deeply.

Okay, it's late and I am tired and I am preaching to the choir.

You prefer Islamofacists over the lefties?

To me, it is like sitting between a choice of dog turd and pig turd. Can you really argue that one is better than the other?

Christ has risen. Take hope and see what He says about our ways.

Never heard that one before but Jesus of Nazareth did say the following:

Yanni says:

"Once China and India etc. have what we have ... the left will probably shift their hate to them."

Not a chance! Once (Communist) China has it, the Left will conclude that they were mistaken - then attack some other aspect of Western civilization.

The one thing I can not understand is how otherwise intelligent people can be sucked in by all this crap.It seems that every few years we are blessed with a planet ending event by twits like Al Gore and his type. The y2k meltdown is still fresh in my mind. The predictions were getting wilder every week leading up to new year. And then it happened......nothing.You never heard a peep from all the "experts" on Jan 1-2000. They had to look for a fresh horse to ride into the ground. The hype surrounding global warming is getting so hot that it will probably burn itself out in a year or two and something new will come along to panic the millions too lazy or ignorant to do a bit of objective research on their own.I do not believe for a minute that Harper is convinced that throwing billions of dollars at this perceived problem will do any more that buy him a whole lot of votes from the granola crunching crowd. Last year the "experts" predicted a drastic increase in Hurricanes. Had far less.Mother nature rules, and only she knows what she is going to dish out.Every year will be a unpleasant surprise somewhere on this planet. Always has been, always will be.Only sad part is that we will blow billions of dollars that could be used on far more important things.

Liberal minded people appear to be so thoroughly blinded by hatred and prejudice that actual atrocity and injustice doesn't bother them, it's a 'progressive' way of looking at things apparently - which means looking but not seeing.

What's almost funny are the way they resort to lies and really bad rationalizations to cover their lunacy.

Maybe it would be funny if they were not allowed to vote. That they can makes it scary,

Dinosaur: "Maybe it would be funny if they were not allowed to vote. That they can makes it scary,"

So we could have teams of volunteers at polling stations, asking people how they intend to vote, and if they're liberally-inclined we'll ask them to step aside and let the Good Clean People run the show thank you? That does sound funny.

I wonder sometimes how you all plan to defend yourselves when you stand before God? By pleading ignorance? By blaming someone? By arguing nuances of greek/hebrew translation? By accusing him of being part of a vast left-wing conspiracy?

Feel free to attack me all you want – and you know you want to – but Christ isn't part of your smug little crowd, so while you're working on rebuttals and slams, set aside some time to prepare an answer for when He asks you why you didn't show love for Him through the billions of lost and hurting people out there who you've chosen to heap your scorn and self-righteousness-fueled neglect upon in your game of mutual congratulation.

Yanni?Yano,

Oh puh-leeez. I'm an athiest. Your 'sky fairy' doesn't scare me. ;-)

Where did you ever get the idea compassion was any part of today's so-called left wing?

Compassion for a price, in a statist solution, but it seems a lack of compasion on an individual level ... considering the intolerance shown to others with differing opinions.

Could you offer any proof man created any part of the physical world?

Brent,

It is older that Jesus the Jew.

And comes in a variety of expressions as well.

I have felt the Liberals were very much that way inclined. Misers of pennies, starving people, stealing from the middle class, while blowing Billions on useless projects, and ad scams, to feed their friends to wealth and luxury!

I can hardly wait for the day when we find out that our whole solar system is a pecker track on something else's sheet.

Set,
I'm an athiest. Why would I need to prove anything?
