A place for everything and everything in its place

I have been trying to come to terms with a few things over the past few days. Ann Coulter's "faggot" remark at CPAC is one of them. I was there last year when she made the "raghead" comment, and I remember the outrage of everyone in the room, myself included. But how can I revile her for her cheap shots when I take so many of my own?

Yesterday, the arch-fiend Robert McClelland made a hard-core anti-semetic remark in the comments section of his Blahg:

When the State starts rounding up my Jewish neighbours, I’ll speak up.

Not me. People like Klownsella, Chernyuk and Smeagol the Jew have taught me it's not worth getting involved. When next they come for the Jews I doubt I'll even be able to muster up a "what a shame".

This caused both the left and right of the blogosphere to gasp in collective horror. Cherniak called for McClelland's head on a pike, and it was handed to him by the NDP. As disgusted as I was with Robert, I couldn't help but think of how last summer the Blogging Tories and the Conservative Party could have done the same to me. They didn't, but they could have. My views of Islam may be similar to what others are thinking, but most of them will never say it.

Read the rest here.

Whatever.
I found the story about how “fucking Albertans are hoarding their gasoline” much more offensive.

And more entertaining...

Hey right girl, the difference between the monstrous Muslims and the admirable Jews is beyond debate.

People who arm their kids with C4 and smile while they blow up in an Israeli deli is so far removed from the Jewish mother making chicken soup and tenderly caring for her kid with the sniffle that even suggesting guilt for point to it is moot.

Don't fold now ... shit like McLelland needs to be flushed right with the Muslim diahreha that are stinking up the entire planet.

Ann Coulter says what many think, she speaks old fashioned English as we did before the plague of political correctness ruined our ability to express our feelings.

Honesty is hard to listen to nowadays and that is a crime.

People need to be allowed to state their opinions, whether they're stupid or not, and other people need to be allowed to tell the first lot to go to hell, whether they deserve it or not. It ain't pretty, but it's a hell of a lot better to have it this way than to have a lot of finger wagging nannies telling us all to be nice to the other kiddies all the time. It's more fun, too. Way more.

RG,

I disagree with your assessment on two points.
1) As I understand it (and I may be wrong), R-Mac didn't just have a Blog, he had the NDP seal of approval. If the NDP wants to take that seal away, it may certainly do so, and in this case it should have.

2) As you may remember, I was one of the folks who disagreed with you views on Islam the most, but I NEVER remember you saying ANYTHING as despicable as R-Mac did. You and I (and others) had an argument about the political nature of Islam. R-Mac moved well beyond that to all but endorsing the disappearance (Argentine-style) of people.

Please do not associate yourself with scum like that; it is VERY beneath you.

Oh grow up! So somebody said "faggot". Is that worse than calling someone an "asshole" or less offensive than a "shit head"? How’s about “a retard” or "Let those eastern bastards freeze in the dark"? How's about "mother f*&ker"? Would you be less offensive if a euphemism was used?

What was the gist of what that person was saying when your brain went into dead stop at the mention of that word? Why is it that American Negroes can say whatever they want or that extreme feminist can say and offend with impunity? Why is that only white people have to snap their asses shut?

Grow up! We all have the right to say what’s on our minds and in the same manner. You also have the right to listen or leave.

Our society has fallen into the trap of political correctness which was one of the main feature of USSR. When are we going to have public confession sessions like the reds had?

RG should encourage other people to fight fiercely political correctness.

Islamofacists are using this very weapon to spread their venom. This is a real danger. It looks like spider web where we get caught and the muslim spiders can eat us slowly!

Let those eastern (Central Canadian environmentalists) bastards freeze in the dark?

I like it.

I think AC was being honest. She depises homosexuals and she despises John Edwards. I don't personally like to use 'name calling' , but she's far from the worst.

The whole 'nasty' way of making a point doesn't seem to improve communication too well, so that's probably not the point. The point must be simply to irritate or hurt the 'other side'. And all sides seem to be increasingly uncivil. Its duplicitous to throw a fit about something you and your friends also engage in. (RG's point.)
