Ah, Zeb. I knew I could count on you leave a comment.
Anything that has "Ontario" in it attracts you like a shiny object.

The site that Russ Kuykendall has posted makes sense. I filled in the email and sent it to my MP (a Liberal) and to Harper.

While I’m not a McGuinty fan , anything that that gets money out of the hands of the remote 308 MPs in Ottawa and into the hands of more local endeavors that I can see in terms of accountability, makes more sense … on with the de-centralization revolution. I can’t believe that McGuinty is showing leadership on this, but so be it.

Good time to remind Westerners of some Fraser Institute data "A Guide to the Indebtedness of Canada and the Provinces", 2004 edition.

Western Canada's 4 provinces have a total gov't liability of about $241 billion. Spread over the 9.8 million people gives a average of only $24500/person.

Ontario's 12.8 million people have $420 billion of gov't liabilities for an average of $33000/person

Quebec's 7.6 million pipple have a total gov't liability of $435 billion, for an average of $57000/person.

And the Maritimes is off scale, but the increasing oil wealth will help them immensely.

Transferring any money out of the West is a bad idea becaue it just encourages the horrendous gov't spending habits that the rest of the country obviously have. And it really just goes to paying the interest on their present gov't debt.

This data shows that the self-proclaimed leaders of Canada, Ontario and Quebec, haven't done much belt tightening at all. And certainly not to the extent Alberta did, and we survived.

Why is a responsible province, like Sask, called a 'have' province, and an irresponsible province, like Quebec, called a 'have not' province?

It's time to get rid of the myth of equalizations payments altogether because some provinces are obviously abusing the original idea.

Ontario is a virtually untapped source of wealth. If taxes were tripled there, or even quadrupled, there would be no more complaints of a "fiscal imbalance." That's because they'd complain about being overtaxed.

Either way, Ontarios pleas of poverty are to be ignored. They're rich as can be and must pay more.

BC just lowered their income taxes by 10%.

That's probably one of the most important steps that have been made by a Provincial Party since Alberta became debt free.

I knew your were a socialist.

Maybe Ontario is "as rich as can be", Pike.
That's not the problem. The problem is how the richness is spent.
You may be quite correct in your comment, however
the Liberal run government here is profligate with
our hard-earned money.
And therein lies the rub.
I suggest you consider moving to Ontario.Perhaps you can help us make a difference.

Ralph: I already lived in Ontario. Why else would I wish its people misery and malice.

Since the people of Ontario vote Liberal, they obviously support its policies. Therefore, it has no reason to complain about any "fiscal imbalance." Alberta, on the other hand, has clear and obvious motives to feel that way. May Ontario suffer.

This isn't socialism. My motives are vengeance and punishment of a greedy people.

Ontarian's are greedy, yet they are socialist too? Wow that's an even more interesting take.

Posted by: Chris Rickett | 2007-02-21 6:14:28 PM

Whoever said Ontario had socialism of any form? They just call it socialism to make it sound better. In reality, it's collective greed.

Zeb:

The logic that most on this site use is that because Ontario elects Liberals, they must be socialists. Although, socialists that seem to make a lot money at the sametime.

Maybe they elected Bob Rae because of their collective guilt over being wealthy then right?

As to your tax-tax-tax approach to punish greedy people - that's the same line one would hear from most socialists. So if it acts like a socialist and writes like a socialist, it must be a socialist.
