Volpe's devil is a free agent now

Joe Volpe's campaign has suffered yet another blow:

Joe Volpe's trouble-plagued bid to become the next Liberal leader suffered another, possibly fatal, blow with the resignation Friday of his national campaign manager.

In a written statement released late Friday, Volpe said Jim Karygiannis, a controversial Toronto MP, "has left the campaign as a result of the position taken by the candidate on the current crisis in the Middle East.''

Volpe has been strongly supportive of Israel's bombardment of Lebanon, arguing that the Jewish state has a right to defend itself against attacks by Hezbollah guerillas based in southern Lebanon.

Karygiannis wanted more "balance":

Karygiannis said he had no problem with Volpe's insistence that Israel has a right to defend itself. But he said: "With the stuff that's happening in Lebanon, you've got have a balance.''

"You can't hold a country hostage, be it Israel or Hezbollah.''

The impact? Karygiannis signed up thousands of new Liberals for Volpe's campaign. Some of them will follow Karygiannis is he decides to move to another campaign. And that can hurt Volpe:

However, strategists with several other camps privately said they want nothing to do with Karygiannis, who has gained a reputation as an effective but controversial organizer.

Still, some predicted another camp will be tempted to recruit Karygiannis, in hopes that many of the 37,000 new party members he claims to have recruited for Volpe will come with him.

"Volpe is toast,'' said one strategist. "They are Jimmy's people, not Joe's. The big question is, who will do the deal with the devil?''

I'm willing to bet every single candidate will be willing to "deal with the devil" to get the votes.

Good! The last thing anyone needed was that old Fascist leading a major political party.

"You can't hold a country hostage,be it Isreal or Hezbollah."
Yes it appears Karygiannis said just that.
It probably is a good thing that he's left the campaign.
With a distorted worldview like that he probably thinks the Auto Workers or Teachers Unions are sovereign countries unto their own.Lord knows they think so!
Let the show go on!!

Just because Jimmy K is reported to have "quit"
does,nt mean that he actually "quit" - He and Volpe will be looking to make a deal with one or more of the Leadership contenders. Because of his Big City GTA connection, first to be approached will be Brison. The major contenders,
Ignatieff and Rae won't bother with Jimmy K. Kennedy will show some interest I would think. But no matter the Christmas Cards coming from the PMO for about the next three years will be from PM Stephen Harper - Cheers.

Pardon my ignorance, Ontario brothers, but is since it appears Jimmy K is no expert of international affairs, what is his hyphenated-Canadian background.

Perhaps his misunderstandings can be attributed to the educational system of his country of origin (I just love this bureauspeak).

One sees a lot of guys like Jummy K around the political spectrum in Canada. Brian Mulroney needed them in his campaigns. Jimmy K was a major operator on behalf of Martin. He and Volpe are basically out of the same camp. Making deals with constituency Presidents, trading off favours for delegates. That is how the people around Chretien hi jacked the Liberal Party of the period. Martin did the same thing to Chretien.Harper is a real breath of fresh air on the political scene in Canada. Many, many Liberals think so.

You included?

Actually all the "operators" in the Party who ensured the election of Chretien and Martin are
Senators today, known in the Atlantic Region of Canada as "The Scum Club". My Convent educated Mother exclaimed when she heard about one particular appointment by Martin. Why Jack he's nothing but a Pimp, actually a very accurate description. All the Political Parties have their
operators, the job in particular appeals to Young Liberals and Young Conservatives, who become flunkies to Ministers in Ottawa. I prefer to put politicians of all stripes on valium. Cheers

Hey, being Albertan, it's all Greek to me.

A Kennedy conspiracy? Sounds good to me. A Harper-Kennedy matchup would result in a Mulroney-sized majority for PMSH. The guy is a small-time far-left clown in a time of center-right ascendancy.

IMHO, only Iggy has a chance to bring voters back to the Libs. If party mechanics deny him that chance...hallelujah!

Karol you are right in my opinion up to a point, but I think that the Jimmy K Volpe crowd will support Brison. Best thing that could happen is that Brison gets married during the campaign. But, there is a move by Brison's very rich Maritime supporters to convince him to become Provincial Liberal Leader, which I think will happen. Hon Belinda Stronach PC MP invited three NS Liberal MP's to play golf on the Magna Golf Course. I will be surprised if any of them can actually hit a golf ball. One thing Western Readers should be aware of is that there in fact is virtually no interest in the Liberal "leadership race" here on the East Coast
-no surprise to me. Potential and real Delegates have other plans, including preparing for Christmas. The Liberal "executive" in Ottawa appear incapable of organizing a trip to Burger King. Cheeers.

Liberal neutrality is a lie!

You cannot be on the fence, when it come to dealing with terrorists.

If you back your own state, and also back terrorism, you undermine your own state!

How so?

Because so called resistence fighters, as they prefer to call themselves, always exist against the state. This means that when Liberals call for neutrality, they are actually making a call AGAINST CANADA!

You cannot be neutral in Lebanon, neutral in Israel, without being neutral in Canada as well.

The Liberals are resistors.

They resisted having Hisbollah added to the list of terrorists.

They resisted dealing with the terrorist menace in the world.

They resisted taking a stand against terrorists and anti-Semitism.

They resisted stopping the channelling of monies from Canada to the terrorists.

They resisted all normal principles, that states have the right to exist, and terrorist groups do not!

And the Liberals, they have this problem with not knowing what they are doing, as they have no clear understanding of what a terrorist group really is, and what those terrorists will do in Canada, and have done in Canada, and have done to Canadians, and will do to Canadians.

You cannot be for FREEDOM and for SUBMISSION at the same time! It does not work! Never has, and never will!

The Conservatives put the pride and perspective back into Canada, where it belongs.

As for the Liberals, their leadership is having problems, as they will not (not cannot) get their principles in order! It is that simple.
