At Least No Jews Have Been Blamed...Yet
Since the famous head-butt yesterday, I've been thinking that certain elements in the Muslim Arab world would find a way to turn it into a case of, "the rest of the world picking on us." Indeed -- within a couple of hours, accusations were flying. What took them so long?
Now, to be clear, Zizou has said nothing along these lines, as far as I know. And of course, he is French, born and bred. But by way of his origins, some parties will turn him into a symbol of the big, bad, everyone else being mean to Muslims. (Interesting, because, as I recall, Zizou was thrown out of a match a couple of years ago for stamping on a Saudi player. So much for Pan-Arabism.)
While I am happy to report that -- so far -- no Jews have been blamed for the red card, one wonders: How long till the rumours that Marco Materazzi is Jewish begin a' whirlin'?

If you see the video a few seconds before the headbutt, it sure looks like the Italian guy gave him a nipple twister. If that doesn't deserve a headbutt, I don't know what does. :)

Hah ! What a tough sport. Nipple twisters. Ooh those soccer players! I sure wouldn't want to have to deal with those guys...by the way, do they wear nipple protectors ? Ha !

The overlong knee-highs the goaltenders wear remind me what little girls wore in my public school days.
Tan ribbed cotton stockings held up with elastic bands.
Sixty years ago.
On another matter, one has to wonder when the second and third generation of immigrants will consider Canada as their country?

What a stupid, pointless gesture. If he was truly proviked he should have just slugged him in the mouth and knocked out a few teeth. If you're going to get tossed and you want to send a message, send a real message.

I know that sometimes players exchange gifts at the ends of international matches, so maybe the Italian player thought the game was over. Even so, it seems odd that he would be carrying a nipple-twister during the game.

Religion does not really matter in this case, it is a question of personality and sportsmanship. But as the article mentions that rumors about Materazzi being Jewish could come up, I wonder: Isn't he Jewish? His Tattoos show a Star of David and some hebrew writing. I am also wondering how the many right-wing extremists among Italian soccer fans react to this.
