Way To Go Jack

Rarely do I have anything good to say about Jack Layton and his NDP party but today is one of those days. During the past federal election I was baffled when the NDP did not respond more forcefully to Liberal requests that NDP supporters should abandon their party in order to prevent a Conservative victory.

Well it seems today that the NDP have grown themselves a backbone:

The NDP has expelled Buzz Hargrove, the country's most prominent labour leader, for actively promoting strategic voting and Liberal candidates in last month's federal election.

The Ontario NDP provincial executive voted yesterday to pull the membership of Hargrove, president of the Canadian Auto Workers, for violating the party's constitution regarding provisions against endorsing other candidates. It also automatically revokes his membership in the federal party.

The NDP certainly made the right, as well as the principled, decision on this one. Though Hargrove is a huge financial and stategic contributor to the NDP they gave him the boot since he promoted the idea that the NDP should never be a governing party.

Don't get me wrong, I'ld be horrified to see the NDP heading up our government but we must give them credit where credit is due.

Way to go Jack!

You are talking about Basil Hargrove New Brunswick born, top negotiator and forty one
years a Socialist NDP member. The big unions like
those represented by Buzz Hargrove saved the NDP
more than once over the past decades. Layton did not hesitate to make a deal with the Martin Liberals. Here in this tiny perfect New Brunswick
city, we took bets among our fellow political junkies focused on how long it would take Layton
to realize how our Liberal friends screwed him
and his fellow Socialists. Layton should actually
think about life after politics. Cheers

They are eating their own. Excellent. How appropriate that this fattened champaigne socialist calf should be one of the first. Hopefully the start of many feasts.

I never thought I would live to say this but "Way to go Jack!"

Buzz is an ignoramous of the 10th degree. Can you imagine for a second if a former Reformer made some callous ignorant comment to us about not supporting someone from Quebec or Ontario because "they are different out there." The Toronto Star and CBC would still be talking about it.

Buzz is yesterday's man. Trying to hold onto outdated ideas and a philosophy that, thankfully, tapered out in the 80's.

I do hope that his union will yank him out too.

The NDP rejection of Buzz kind of flies in the face of Olivia's quest for institutionalized day care. I mean, Buzz has got to increase the numbers of the rank and file and he's looking to unionize baby-sitters. Is it mere coincidence that these two socialists are on the same page? I wouldn't believe too much of what you read in the Star or see on CBC.

Buzz off, Buzz

Hit the road, Jack.

Solidarity next time, maybe?

The crap that comes out of that mans mouth (buzz hargrove's),never ceases to amaze me. He has become a liability not only to the NDP, but his union as well. The NDP woke up, will the UAW wakeup too?

Labour unions have never been less important to Canadian society at large than they are today. I think the NDP is (wisely) moving away from their traditional union-centred base, and this is another step in that direction.

Basil Hargrove aka "Buzz" responds today in the
Asper Media - if your are a politician and want to take on Basil in public, with full media
coverage, you had better have your wits in place.
Basil is after all a New Brunswick farm boy who came up the hard way to head up a very tough and
dynamic union, is used to nasty infighting and knows how to play the media, in particular the
anti Conservative Canadian Toronto MSM. No surprise that many NDP MP's and party members
are angry and confused. The battle has begun,
stay tuned.

Before we get too excited about NDP principles , this is a phony gambit. They have stated that Buzz can get back in as long as he will promise not to do it again . I just listened to him in a CHML interview stating that he would never be a Liberal and is a life long , committed socialist and that he was so sad to be kicked out. Buzz took a shot at the senate , gambling that the Liberals would pull it out, and then it would be so long NDP, Now using the same monotone BS that for some reason has worked for him ,he will pick up where he was before [ probably ] . Eventually he`ll find another billionaire to back him in his bid to shed his blue collar. Buzz is stuborn but serially shameless.

And now we know that Jack had nothing to do with the ousting and is working on bringing Buzz back. Too quick to applaud?
